Ronan Farrow (we like to call him a girl’s best friend) hosted an A&E Network women’s panel in New York that included one of our all-time favorite people – Gloria Steinem. She inspired us through the years to survive the behavior of patriarchal editors and producers and fight for women’s rights. Surely she played an enormous part in the conviction of Harvey Weinstein. We cannot thank her enough…

Speaking of designer Rick Owens, here’s an outfit from his latest collection. Owens started out in LA – we fondly remember back in the 90’s shopping at his first store on Las Palmas – a seedy side street in Hollywood. His clothing was part grunge, part goth – and quite expensive, but unbearably desirable! Rick’s French girlfriend/partner Michele Lamy opened the celebrity hotspot Le Deux across the street and she gave his business a huge boost. They ended up getting married, moving to Paris, and the rest is history. We still have one of his t-shirts from those days…

At 6’3”, English actress Gwendolyn Christie was discouraged early on from becoming an actress, but she persevered. She started out playing awkward office workers, aliens, policewomen, and finally landed a role in Game of Thrones. That changed everything. Suddenly designers “discovered” her and they love to take advantage of the fact that she attracts a lot of attention. Lately Gwendolyn has been turning up on red carpets looking fabulous and she’s in Paris right now fearlessly flashing this Rick Owens creation.

We never heard of the “War on Idling” in New York, but this cute photo of Billy Idol inspired us to look into it. It seems NY Mayor Bill De Blasio is obsessed with the fact that vehicles – especially delivery trucks, do not turn off their engines while parked – they idle. Of course that pollutes neighborhoods, but no matter how many tickets are given, the habit persists in the city. Billy Idol lives in Los Angeles, but he’s a good sport and joined the campaign because he has the right name and wants a clean environment. Of course Billy attracted a nice crowd to the PR event.

How different Alec Baldwin’s life would be if he had never met his wife Hilaria. Alec had earned a reputation in Hollywood as being “difficult” to put it mildly. He argued with directors, made demands on the set, and attacked paparazzi. He’s been forced to go to anger management classes and a parenting course, before he could communicate with daughter Ireland. A contentious divorce from Kim Basinger and twitter battles enhanced his negative image. Eight years ago Hilaria came along and four babies later he is posing at Disneyland with the family and on good terms with Ireland again…(Ireland is with her musician boyfriend Corey Harper)
We are always astonished at what a loving and caring mother Jennifer Garner seems to be. And she’s a MOVIE STAR, to boot! Regular everyday moms are rarely as attentive to their children- Jennifer walks or drives her three kids to school every day and picks them up after school. When she’s not available, their father Ben Affleck does the job. She also escorts them to and from church every Sunday. These lucky kids must really feel loved. It also illustrates Ben Affleck’s recent comment that his divorce from Jennifer is the biggest regret of his life.

How great is it that the star of the new Invisible Man movie is a WOMAN in this updated version? And it’s SO timely – Elisabeth Moss plays a woman tormented by her sociopathic but brilliant and abusive ex-boyfriend. He’s an inventor who fakes his own death and leaves her his fortune so he can stalk her and manipulate her life when he is invisible. Of course no one believes her appalling stories. The film already has good reviews and is not only Time’s Up relevant but really scary.

Face the facts – society is headed in this direction: face masks will become a necessity if you plan to leave the house, and they might as well look good while they are saving your life. Fendi already had this silk mask on the market for $270 long before the Coronavirus struck, so they are a step ahead. Off-white has a rather plain black mask available for $98. All these manufacturers need to do is update their masks with powerful germ filtering lining material. Fashion Week in Milan ended badly due to the encroaching virus. We can imagine many designers up all night preparing fabulous face masks for Paris Fashion Week…
Diane Kruger’s relationship with Norman Reedus has always been fascinating – he looks like a rough-around-the-edges biker at best, and former model Diane seems so much more refined and fashionable. But they fell in love when they costarred in the movie Sky in 2015 and now they have a baby daughter. Appropriately, Norman, who stars on The Walking Dead, also has a motorcycle travel series called Ride with Norman Reedus. He looked a bit out of place today shopping in the exclusive Melrose Place neighborhood with Diane, but apparently opposites DO attract – she describes Norman as “gentle.”

Sheryl Lee Ralph is a longtime favorite of ours and she brings to mind a funny story. Back in the 90’s when we gossiped for Star magazine we got a late night call from a security guard source who worked at an exclusive New York hotel. He was laughing as he said “Robert De Niro is here and he’s having a tantrum in the lobby because they won’t let him visit someone upstairs!” It seems this hotel was SO fancy they didn’t allow nighttime visitors to go upstairs unless the person they were visiting came to the lobby and escorted them up! De Niro was outraged and furious “Don’t you know who I am!” Security wouldn’t budge, and eventually DeNiro’s tryst-mate came down in a chic bathrobe to get him – and it turned out to be Sheryl Lee Ralph! (They costarred in the 1992 movie Mistress) When we printed this story, Deniro’s lawyer called to complain bitterly about the “fake” story and tried to get me fired, but didn’t sue. He also tried to get the security guard fired. A few years later we ran into Sheryl at an event and reminded her of that story– she laughed out loud and admitted – “Oh yes, that was me!”
