Gloria Steinem

THANK YOU GLORIA STEINEM!

It’s ABOUT TIME. Gloria Steinem and many other domestic abuse experts have come together in public support of Amber Heard. After Amber wrote an essay in the Washington Post about her domestic abuse (without naming her ex Johnny Depp)- he sued her for defamation and he WON. Steinem and 130 other experts and organizations published an open letter in which they agree that defamation suits are being MISUSED to SILENCE survivors. They also blasted social media for mocking Amber’s allegations of violence and abuse. (victim shaming) Anybody who read Depp’s revolting emails knows he was abusive. It has been five months since this appalling Virginia trial and we are delighted that Steinem and other experts have taken a stand. Amber moved to Spain with her daughter after the trial – now she can return with more confidence.

PLAYING GLORIA STEINEM DID NOT INSPIRE SCIENTOLOGIST KIRSTIE ALLEY

Until we were reminded by a Hollywood Reporter Flashback, we had TOTALLY forgotten that Kirstie Alley (of all people) portrayed Gloria Steinem on film LONG before Rose Byrne played Gloria in Mrs America! (This was before Cheers) It was a 1985 TV movie called A Bunny’s Tale that documented the story of Gloria as a young journalist in 1963, going undercover and working as a Playboy Bunny for 11 days. Certainly the experience inspired Gloria’s future as a vigorous feminist. Scientologist Kirstie seems to have no history of supporting women’s rights – in fact she has had Twitter clashes with women’s rights activists. But she DOES support Scientology.

Above, Kirstie in the middle – looking glam!

THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING GLORIA STEINEM

Ronan Farrow (we like to call him a girl’s best friend) hosted an A&E Network women’s panel in New York that included one of our all-time favorite people – Gloria Steinem. She inspired us through the years to survive the behavior of patriarchal editors and producers and fight for women’s rights. Surely she played an enormous part in the conviction of Harvey Weinstein. We cannot thank her enough…

GLORIA STEINEM HAS HARVEY WEINSTEIN FIGURED OUT

Our no-nonsense feminist idol Gloria Steinem just made some pertinent comments in an interview with Elle.com about Harvey Weinstein, Hugh Hefner etc. Read the entire article HERE.

Meanwhile, this is our favorite Gloria paragraph:
“The fact is we have a president who is a sexual harasser and was clearly [recorded] on tape admitting that; it shows that a third of the country still thinks this is either inevitable or okay, including 51 percent of white women [with college degrees]. I don’t want to overgeneralize, but these are women who are dependent on a man’s income and men’s identities, and they think there’s no choice. They think all men are like this. And their fathers were like this, probably. I think they looked at Hillary and said, ‘How dare she? She’s just a woman like me. How dare she aspire?’”

MARISA TOMEI IS SET TO STAR IN GLORIA STEINEM’S LIFE STORY

Marisa Tomei plays a whole new version of “Aunt May” in the new Spider-Man movie starring Tom Holland. She’s the cool, smart aunt as opposed to the grey haired pie-baking type. Marisa says her ex-boyfriend turned friend, Robert Downey Jr, put in a good word to help her get the part. More importantly, Marisa is already cast to star in the upcoming HBO biopic called MS about our idol- feminist writer-activist Gloria Steinem. Gloria has had an important and fascinating life and Marisa is perfect casting…

WOMENS RIGHTS ARE NO BIG DEAL TO THE KARDASHIANS

Shame, shame, shame on the Kardashians and Jenners for not sending a SINGLE family member to take part in the Women’s March. Too busy taking selfies? Keep in mind the Kardashian-Jenner family made their fortune because teen girls watched their TV shows. The Kardashians taught these young female fans to slather on their makeup and take off their clothes to attract men. (Advanced education is a no-no subject in their house.) Granted it would have been difficult to march in five inch stilettos along with a beauty squad and MALE bodyguards. While we’re on the subject, we have to point out that Madonna may have had good intentions, but she made a huge mistake in trying to out trash-talk Donald Trump. She sounded like an ignorant guy with a pickup truck and a gun in the glove compartment. For some reason Madonna thinks its cool to act like a man. She needs to take lessons from Gloria Steinem. Gloria knows that women are superior and gives truly motivating speeches. And they’re not all about HER.

IT’S YOUR DUTY AS A WOMAN TO SEE “SUFFRAGETTE”

suffragette-10-13CUT

“Suffragette” should be required viewing for all young women. (Those of us who are not so young don’t need to be encouraged – we’ll be there.) Few movies have been made about the grim necessity of the women’s movement because MEN are in charge in Hollywood and they don’t like to be reminded of their despicable behavior. This movie was made BY women (another reason to see it) and it clearly illustrates the fact that until well into the 20th century, women were literally SLAVES with no rights at all, in what passes for CIVILIZED COUNTRIES! (They STILL have no rights in Saudi Arabia and other places -can’t even vote!) Remember what Gloria Steinem said: “Women have to choose – either she’s a feminist or a masochist!” (Above, Cary Mulligan’s character in the sweat shop)

MARISA TOMEI IS PLAYING GLORIA STEINEM FOR HBO

Now THIS is good news! We’ve been bombarded with biographies of MEN lately (The Theory of Everything, The Imitation Game, American Sniper, etc) and we’ve been WISHING that someone would document Gloria Steinem’s life on film. (She IS one of our idols.) Turns out, HBO is prepping a miniseries, appropriately called “Ms.” and Marisa Tomei will star as Gloria. Perfect casting – beautiful, smart, and likeable. Best of all, Gloria will serve as consultant on the series. She inspired a lot of women and we have never forgotten her quote “We’ve become the men we wanted to marry!”
(Above Marisa Tomei and Daniel Radcliffe filmed a scene for “Trainwreck” surrounded by poodles in a park in NYC.)

GLORIA STEINEM: “WE’VE BECOME THE MEN WE WANTED TO MARRY”

AG051301_09cut

We’ve admired and idolized the brilliant Gloria Steinem for what seems like forever and not many photos of her come along these days. Of course she would show up at the Make Equality Reality event in Beverly Hills – supporting women’s rights around the world. It’s a never ending battle. Feminist Gloria has always been an inspiration to women and has done more to enlighten them than any other person in recent history. Nice to see that Kathy Griffin is in agreement.

GAYLE KING: IF OPRAH WERE A MAN, I’D MARRY HER IN A MINUTE!

Oprah Winfrey’s longtime friend Gayle King livened up the CBS This Morning show when she declared if Oprah were a man she would absolutely marry her! It’s especially funny because Oprah and Gayle have been denying rumors for years that they are lesbian lovers. (They’re not.) Gayle went on to say that her pal Oprah is successful, caring, and honest – “she has all the traits you’d want in a spouse.” This reminds us of our favorite quote from feminist Gloria Steinem: “We’ve become the men we wanted to marry.” So true.
