Michael Douglas has been doing his best to patch up his failing marriage with Catherine Zeta-Jones. He never forgets to mention her and their children when he makes a speech, and talks about her affectionately in interviews. But Catherine has been conspicuously absent from all the red carpet events that Michael attends. Since he filmed “Behind the Candelabra” Michael has been bombarded with movie offers. Catherine, 45, has not. We’re curious to see if this rumor about Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones’s marriage collapsing has any truth to it. After all, the story originated in Star magazine. Of course with all the problems this couple has been having, it’s entirely plausible. Star says Michael is weary of Catherine’s mood swings and substance abuse. (After having throat cancer, we’re guessing it’s no fun to watch your wife drink and smoke.) But, and it’s a big BUT, Catherine DID nurse Michael back to health when he had cancer, and he can’t forget that. Also, does he really want to be single at 68? No matter how rocky things get, we’ll be very surprised if they divorce.

Both Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas’s first wife Diandra are very agitated about the fact that Michael has implied that his throat cancer was caused by a sex disease. Both women want the world to know that they do NOT carry HPV, and Michael has started backtracking. However, it’s clear to us that Michael is referring back to his days as a raving sex-addict. Michael was a cheater who bedded almost every leading lady (are you reading this, Sharon Stone?) every attractive bit player, producer’s daughters, and his wife’s best friends. In his heyday, he was known for his trysts at every fancy hotel in LA and New York. He thinks it was those youthful indiscretions that led to his cancer, not so much the smoking and drinking, but who knows?

CATHERINE ZETA-JONES: THE TRUTH, JUST NOT THE WHOLE TRUTH

It’s undeniably a good thing that Catherine Zeta-Jones is calling attention to bi-polar disorder by admitting that she has checked into treatment centers more than once. She’s being released today after three weeks of health care. But she’s not being entirely open. Catherine says she checks into rehab for help in regulating her medication, but the problem is bigger than that. Bi-polar people frequently abuse alcohol and drugs to make themselves feel better or calmer. Her hospitalization in 2011 was at a detox center and Catherine is known to be a drinker and chain smoker. All things point to the fact that Catherine’s disorder causes her to abuse substances and THAT’S the real reason she checks into treatment centers. This is the part of the disorder that some people don’t like to talk about, but it’s very common and should be addressed.

Everyone’s talking about the news that Catherine Zeta Jones checked into a Connecticut hospital facility to deal with her “bipolar disorder.” Granted, she’s had a tough year living with her husband’s illness, but she’s not telling the whole story. Silver Hill Hospital specializes in treating psychiatric disorders combined with substance abuse. The National Enquirer broke this story (although few blogs credited them) in this week’s issue and they revealed that Catherine went right into the detox center of the hospital and checked out after five days. Self-medication might be her main problem. (Above, she accused a photographer of hitting her in the face in London in February)

CATHERINE ZETA-JONES HAD AN EVENTFUL DAY IN LONDON

Catherine Zeta-Jones looked deliriously happy when she met with Prince Charles at Buckingham Palace for an award ceremony. Later she and Michael Douglas had dinner at Gordon Ramsay’s restaurant at Claridge’s Hotel. All went well until they returned to their hotel and the doorway was jammed with people. In the middle of the crowd Catherine suddenly screamed that she had been punched! Hotel staffers rushed to her aid and she was seen rubbing her chin, but there seemed to be no lasting damage.

He planned ahead: Michael had is sperm frozen before he had his treatments in case his wife Catherine wants another baby. Radiation will likely affect his ability to father a child.
