WHEN ANNA WINTOUR SPEAKS, CELEBRITIES LISTEN

Each spring, Anna Wintour, the terrifying editor of Vogue, has an extravagant party – the Met’s Costume Institute Gala – and everybody dresses to kill. This year Anna declared the theme was “superheroes” (whatever THAT means) and strongly advised invitees to dress accordingly. She ordered all her Vogue staffers to wear white or silver. Faced with this dilemma, stars’ imaginations scattered in all directions.

Scarlett Johansson and Janet Jackson played it safe by wearing white. Scarlett is adorable in her “ballerina gone bad” outfit – especially since it’s accessorized with her new engagement ring from Ryan Reynolds. Janet’s dress is not that interesting or original but her skin looks gorgeous next to white.

This Olsen Twins photo is noteworthy most of all because they are BOTH SMILING! Ashley and Mary-Kate are starting to look less and less alike. We love the sheer frivolity of Eva Longoria’s bold purple pleated silk gown with a train- now THAT’S a party dress!

Wentworth Miller, with his distinctive shaved head covered, popped into Larchmont Hardware to get a key copied on his way to the the Coffee Bean down the street….
Paris Hilton and her sister Nicky at Toast – Paris was chowing down on a big juicy sandwich “as if she was STARVING.” They both ate inside with sunglasses ON. Afterwards they jaywalked across the street to shop… Harry Hamlin, who flunked out of Dancing with the Stars, is keeping his boyish physique by working out with free weights at the Fitness Factory in West Hollywood… Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, dining lightly at Doug Arango’s with a tableful of family members….Halle Berry sitting in her car OUTSIDE the BAFTA Awards, waiting her turn onstage. She didn’t like the green room…..

HEAD OVER HEELS

Her sister Ashley is still keeping company with Greg Chait , so Mary-Kate Olsen continues to carouse with her gal pals. The single twin and her girl posse partied at Hyde Thursday night where they all danced and imbibed. Mary-Kate took a break in the upstairs smoking area but when she stepped back on the stairs to come down, the dizzy Olsen lost her balance and nearly fell head first down the staircase! Luckily, a friend broke the fall of the superslim mogulette and helped her, giggling, to her feet. Disaster averted, the girls continued to party till closing time. We hope she hasn’t given up on getting a college degree.

Diet Olsens

LIGHTER THAN AIR

Ashley and Mary-Kate Olsen were the last to arrive and first to leave at their brother Trent’s graduation party at Arnie Morton’s in Studio City. It was just around twenty family and friends but their table was festively decorated with balloons. The twins and their siblings and buddies grabbed the balloons and sucked the helium- laughing uproariously and cracking jokes in their high pitched cartoon voices. After much giggling, the twins left before the steak dinners were served they didn’t eat a thing. Another diner noted “So THAT’S how they stay so slim all they had for dinner was HELIUM!”
