After all these years, Buddhist Richard Gere has not stopped fighting for Tibet at every opportunity he gets. He’s in Washington now lobbying congress to support Tibet on the 50th anniversary of the uprising in which the Dalai Lama escaped to India. Gere is hoping that Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, despite her commitment to trade with China, will understand the importance of his cause.

Benny Medina might be the answer to Jennifer Lopez’s prayers to reinvent herself. Jennifer’s record sales have dropped off and we can’t remember the last time we saw her in a movie. In fact, she hasn’t been hot since she was keeping company with Ben Affleck. Benny Medina is credited with Mariah Carey’s comeback and he’s had success with Tyra Banks and P Diddy. Jennifer and Benny were seen strategizing at a meeting at a New York restaurant and a change might be in the works for Jennifer.

Dubai bubble has burst and this time it’s the super wealthy and celebrities taking the hit. Many celebrities, from Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie and Michael Jackson to the Beckhams thought they were getting a great deal when they invested in real estate and lavish villas in blossoming Dubai. They started making money overnight and all was well until everything crashed there. Now everyone wants OUT. The property values have dropped 50% so far, and with for sale signs popping up everywhere, it’s going to get a lot worse. Boo hoo. Maybe that’s why Angelina shelved the idea of taking time off with her kids and she’s back to work filming “Salt” in Washington DC.

Sandra Bernhard and Madonna have Kabbalah and preteen daughters in common, but their friendship remains on the rocks. Bernhard occasionally dishes Madonna in her stand up act, and Madonna simply ignores her. Sandra is pictured in New York, walking her ten year old, Cicely, home from school. Obviously they attend Kabbalah services at different locations because they never run into each other or are seen socializing together. And they were such good pals in the early 90’s.

Foodaholic Kirstie Alley tried to get a supermarket to shut down so she could shop in peace! Kirstie is regular shopper at her local Mayfair Market in Los Angeles, and she approached the manager with a request. She asked if they would close the store for an hour so she could shop privately – without being watched or photographed by other customers with their cell phones or long lensed by paparazzi through the front window. (Kirstie has put on some weight, and knows that the bigger she is, the more people want to take pictures of her.) The manager was taken aback and replied that the store could be closed down for an hour ONLY if she guaranteed that she would spend $5000 or more. Kirstie dropped the idea.

MONEY. We’re hearing that every move Rihanna and Chris Brown make is being carefully orchestrated by their handlers to minimize the damage to both their careers. They don’t want to lose lucrative contracts now or in the future. According to an insider, Chris and Rihanna are back together because it weakens the case against him. They are both doing EXACTLY as they are told because so much money is at stake. EVERY news leak or photo is actually carefully planned at this point. Interestingly, the insider is uncertain whether the pair will continue their romance after all this blows over.

“Gossip Girl” is currently filming scenes at the Palace Hotel in New York where Michelle Trachtenberg, Leighton Meester and Chace Crawford appear together.. The show is so frequently photographed on location shoots that by the time they come on TV they look very familiar. We like the imaginative wardrobe on the series, but wonder if upper east side teens in New York private schools REALLY dress like that!

Against all odds, Mickey Rourke’s idiosyncratic style managed to start a trend – specifically the necklace he wears featuring a framed photo of his deceased dog Loki. The necklace was created by another chihuahua owner, Betina Wassermann, and she sells her $30 jewelry at flea markets round New York. (If you don’t have a pet, you can get a picture of Charles Darwin or Jimi Hendrix instead.)Her business is up about a thousand percent since Mickey wore the necklace to the Oscars. Now we hear that Mickey also saved one of Loki’s toenail clippings and carries it around to feel connected to his best friend. Will that trend catch on?
