DOLORES HART CHECKED OUT OF HOLLYWOOD AND INTO A CONVENT

Dolores Hart shocked Hollywood when she abruptly walked away from her acting career in 1963 and became a nun! She’s probably most famous for her movies with Elvis Presley and our favorite “Where the Boys Are.” All these years she’s been cloistered in a convent in Bethlehem, Conn, but the 40 nuns living quarters are desperately in need of refurbishing so she is trying to help them raise money. (Surprisingly, she is still a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and she receives copies of all nominated movies to watch in her cell, and she votes for winners.) Since the abbey needs 4 million dollars for renovation Mother Dolores, 73, has even appeared at an autograph convention where she sold autographs and photos to raise money. She is the order’s main hope for fundraising, so we may be seeing more of her.

SLAIN DICTATOR MUAMMAR GADDAFI WAS A FANCY MAN

We never realized that the late Muammar Gaddafi was considered something of a fashion icon in the Middle East. The dictator was a closet dandy! When his body was brought to the hospital they took a sample of his hair to confirm his identity and it turned out he was wearing a toupee! He had also turned to plastic surgery to keep himself looking youthful, and had his shoe heels built up to make himself taller. But his fashions trough the years are quite entertaining. Above, he must have been going through an “Elvis” phase.

RILEY KEOUGH : GRANDPA ELVIS WOULD BE PROUD

Elvis’s granddaughter Riley Keough is getting serious about her acting career – she’s in the middle of filming her fourth movie. Riley plays the colorful girlfriend of male stripper Alex Pettyfer in “Magic Mike.” The story is loosely based on Channing Tatum’s early career as a young male stripper and Channing is also starring in the film. Riley started out as a teen model but now she considers herself an actress. Hair color notwithstanding, she IS a beauty.

A STAR IS BORN: BEYONCE HAS MET HER MATCH IN CHRISTIAN BALE

We imagine Clint Eastwood wasn’t thrilled to hear about Beyonce’s pregnancy because he hoped to start filming their movie “A Star Is Born” in February. Odds are it will be delayed. Clint really wanted Leonardo DiCaprio to play the male lead but he passed on the part. Now we hear Eastwood has hired Christian Bale to play the celebrity husband who becomes emasculated as his wife’s popularity rises and his own eclipses. We’re thinking Bale will bring QUITE a different edge to the character. This will be the fourth remake of the movie – in the 1974 version, Elvis Presley was desperate to play the role opposite Barbra Streisand – he felt it would change his career. But Colonel Parker nixed the idea.

BRUNO MARS IS SMOLDERING HOT IN L’UOMO VOGUE

Photos via: The WOW Report

Hawaiian born Bruno Mars is a knockout in this layout from L’Uomo Vogue. Those Italians know how to photograph men. Songwriter/singer Mars, 25, says he was inspired by Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson, and The Temptations. In fact, he did such a good impersonation of Elvis when he was a kid that he appeared in the movie Honeymoon in Vegas in 1992 with Nicolas Cage and Sarah Jessica Parker. He’s still got some Elvis hair.

FERLIN HUSKY IS “GONE” – THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES

How we managed to overlook the death of Ferlin Husky on March 17, we’ll never know. But we have no intention of letting this pass without comment. Ferlin was one of those sexy rockabilly guys from the fifties who actually toured with Elvis as his opening act. He’s best known for “Wings of a Dove” but our favorite song of his was the melodramatic “Gone.” What a voice. The ultimate jukebox song for slow dancing. (Above, that’s Ferlin to the left of Elvis)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ELVIS!

January 8 is Elvis’s birthday and it’s always nice to take a minute to think about him. We found this early photo of him looking particularly sultry with actress Dolores Hart. She played a sweet young thing in “Loving You” and “King Creole” and went on to star in “Where the Boys Are.” At the age of 25 she left Hollywood and went to a convent and became a nun. (Do you suppose she was thinking “If I can’t have Elvis, I’m going to become a nun?)

ELVIS: IS JENNIFER GREY A TIME TRAVELER?

We never get tired of looking at old photos of young Elvis and this one is particularly noteworthy. It’s from photographer Alfred Wertheimer’s collection of photos taken in 1956 when Elvis was 21. According to Alfred, this photo was taken as Elvis arrived to appear on The Steve Allen Comedy Show and a fan from Long Island greeted him. HELL0 – is that fan not a dead ringer for Jennifer Grey? – in character for her movie “Dirty Dancing,” of course.

LISA MARIE PRESLEY’S DAUGHTER RILEY KEOUGH ISN’T JUST A PARTY GIRL – SHE’S A WORKING ACTRESS

Riley Keough, best known as Elvis’s granddaughter, is making a name for herself in Hollywood. She started modeling at 14 and landed her first role in “The Runaways” just last year. Since then she’s done two more movies- “The Good Doctor” with Orlando Bloom, and “Jack and Diane” with Kylie Minogue. Now she’s negotiating to appear in the next post-apocalyptic Mad Max movie with Tom Hardy called “Fury Road.” She’ll play a woman he’s protecting from bad guys. She’s got the look.
