ELLEN DEGENERES IS STANDING UP FOR GAYS

Even though she’s gay herself, Ellen DeGeneres is trying to polish up her image with the gay community. Ellen’s career has been in the toilet ever since her talk show ended, and as we previously reported, she’s returning to stand-up to launch her comeback. Ellen fears her reputation is tarnished, so she’s hoping her fellow gays can help polish it up. Although most of her charity work involves protecting endangered species, Ellen is now forming a charity to benefit gay and lesbian youths. My source says Ellen is planning an upcoming comedy tour at predominantly gay clubs across the nation, and will donate all profits to the charity.

TOMMY LEE’S WIFE HAS BIG IDEAS

Tommy Lee’s wife Brittany Furlan wants to be known for more than just being a rockstar’s wife, so she’s working on her comedy and hopes to become a stand-up comedienne. Before she met Tommy, Brittany made a name for herself with her funny online videos. We didn’t realize that they were SO popular that Time magazine named her one of the Most Influential People on the Internet in 2015! A friend reveals that while Brittany enjoys being a Malibu housewife, she misses her brief touch of fame and wants her own career. Once her comedy act is polished she’s hoping to start performing in clubs in LA and if she’s a hit she’ll take her show on the road. Let’s face it, she MIGHT have been just a LITTLE inspired by the current comeback of Tommy’s ex, Pamela Anderson

DON’T SHOOT: IT’S DAVID SPADE!

It’s far from evident at first glance, but when it comes to popularity with women, David Spade, is commonly known as the George Clooney of comedy (back when George was single.) Spade is arguably between 5’5” and 5’7” tall, but he has been linked with more Hollywood beauties than better dressed guys twice his size. Look up his amazing list of exes. (We’ve seen a lot of photos of David having breakfast at IHOP with model types.) A touch of sarcasm goes a long way…

ARNOLD THE GOVERNATOR IS NOW A HIT MAN

It’s fun to see our former Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger in Canada being prettied up for his new comedy/action movie “Why We’re Killing Gunther,” written and directed by SNL’s Taran Killam. (Who, incidentally will NOT be back next season.) Arnold plays Gunther, the world’s greatest hit-man and he’s tormented by a bunch of competitive international assassins conniving to kill him. Gunther is an obnoxious show-off, but he’s also savvy and repeatedly outsmarts his hapless stalkers in the film. Arnold actually got a cute haircut for the role.

NICOLE KIDMAN GAVE HERSELF A MAKEUNDER

Can you believe this ordinary looking attractive girl is Nicole Kidman? She’s wearing a brown wig and minimal makeup while filming “The Family Fang.” . Nicole doesn’t get enough offers to do quality comedies so she took matters into her own hands. She bought the rights to the highly praised – and very original- novel “The Family Fang,” and she’s producing the comedic drama and costarring with Jason Bateman, who will also direct. It’s about a brother and sister who are forced by financial problems to return to their family home and have to deal with their world famous artistic parents and reflect on their peculiar childhood.

THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES: EVERYBODY LIKED DAVID BRENNER

Obit-David-Brenner_Whitcut

We lost another funny guy. David Brenner’s droll style of observational comedy back in the 70’s inspired many of the comics of today. He was a regular on just about every talk show through the years because he was always hilarious. David briefly had his own talk show “Nightlife” in the 80’s, and above, his guests were Frank Zappa and his kids Dweezil and Moon Unit. Brenner is holding up a necktie that was given to Frank to wear when he entered a restaurant that day. David continued doing his stand-up comedy until the beginning of this year.

“BRIDESMAIDS” SUCCESS PROVES WOMEN LIKE TO LAUGH AT THEMSELVES

Hollywood is abuzz with surprise since “Bridesmaids” turned out to be an unexpected hit. (It raked in 21.5 million – second only to “Thor.”) Why is everyone surprised? Apparently male Hollywood producers don’t think women like comedy! “Bridesmaids” has two things going for it – it’s funny and it’s ABOUT WOMEN. Sure, it’s too raunchy sometimes, and a bit overlong, but we women are starved for humor. Gangs of girlfriends got together this weekend to see “Bridesmaids” – like they did for “Sex & the City.” It was FUN! And profitable – maybe now the studios will stop to think about what females really want for a change. (Above photos– the girls in charge and Kristen Wiig with the nice-guy leading man Chris O’Dowd.

SUSAN LUCCI HOPES TO LAUGH FOR THE REMAINDER OF HER CAREER

Imagine a young actress landing her first decent acting job on a new show in 1970 and playing the SAME character until 2010! That’s Susan Lucci on “All My Children.” After all those years Susan senses the show is winding down – viewership is at a new low- and the end is in sight. She’s had enough of melodrama, and now Susan is actively looking for a role on a sitcom. She loved appearing with Wendie Malick on “Hot in Cleveland” and hopes to make people laugh for the next step in her career.

JANUARY JONES JUST WANTS A GOOD LAUGH

Admirers of Mad Men’s January Jones might be interested to hear that she has a weakness for funny men. Not gorgeous guys, comedians. She loves comics more than any other kind of guy – especially the ones on SNL. A knowledgeable source has informed us that she and Jason Sudeikis are just friends, however. She’s rumored to have had a flirtation with Fred Armisan and definitely had a fling with Jeremy Piven. Her search for the funniest guy in town is still underway.

CARRIE FISHER’S “WISHFUL DRINKING” ON HBO – WORTH STAYING HOME FOR

For decades we’ve been writing gossip about Carrie Fisher, who gained fame playing Star Wars Princess Leia, and before that we remember READING gossip about her parents Debbie Reynolds and Eddie Fisher and the Elizabeth Taylor love triangle. Carrie married a musician, Paul Simon, and an agent, Bryan Lourd, who decided he was gay. All the while Carrie was battling substance abuse and manic depression. She says she still gets a refined version of electroshock therapy on a regular basis to keep herself sane! Her life story and cast of characters is fascinating and hilarious. Debbie Reynolds’ daughter turned out to be a smart and funny writer and her latest book Wishful Drinking has evolved into a one-woman show. And what a show it is. World of Wonder did a brilliant job of producing a documentary on Carrie’s show for HBO that airs this Sunday, December 12. Don’t miss it – it’s the next best thing to seeing her in person and you’ll love the way she has fun with all her family dramas. Carrie Fisher may be damaged goods, but she is indeed, a treasure.
