CARRIE FISHER’S “WISHFUL DRINKING” ON HBO – WORTH STAYING HOME FOR

For decades we’ve been writing gossip about Carrie Fisher, who gained fame playing Star Wars Princess Leia, and before that we remember READING gossip about her parents Debbie Reynolds and Eddie Fisher and the Elizabeth Taylor love triangle. Carrie married a musician, Paul Simon, and an agent, Bryan Lourd, who decided he was gay. All the while Carrie was battling substance abuse and manic depression. She says she still gets a refined version of electroshock therapy on a regular basis to keep herself sane! Her life story and cast of characters is fascinating and hilarious. Debbie Reynolds’ daughter turned out to be a smart and funny writer and her latest book Wishful Drinking has evolved into a one-woman show. And what a show it is. World of Wonder did a brilliant job of producing a documentary on Carrie’s show for HBO that airs this Sunday, December 12. Don’t miss it – it’s the next best thing to seeing her in person and you’ll love the way she has fun with all her family dramas. Carrie Fisher may be damaged goods, but she is indeed, a treasure.

SIMON BAKER WHEN HE WAS LESS “MENTAL” AND MORE PHYSICAL

Leave it to our observant colleague, James St James at The WOW Report, to dig up this great old music video that features a current network heart throb as a young and bouncy chorus/go-go- boy. The song is the Australian hit from 1992 “Love You Right” by Euphoria. We love seeing The Mentalist” star Simon Baker as an eager young performer. He appears shirtless, mostly in the second half of the catchy frenetic video, sharing the mic with another chorus guy.

THIS MAKES US WANT TO SEE A PERSIAN REALITY SHOW

Leave it to Stephen Saban, our acclaimed colleague at The WOW Report, to find the most obscure and amusing videos echoing the culture of our times. This treasure features young men in a break dancing competition on a Persian rug, at a 1991 wedding reception in Iran. They seem to be trying to impress the ladies without much success. Their hair was inspired by Prince and their fashion by MC Hammer. It’s funny how the men ask each other to dance and the women sit around watching and looking bored.

MADONNA'S KABBALAH WATER NAUSEATES ART CROWD

It’s a Kabbalah scandal! World of Wonder’s recent Madonna themed art show at their storefront gallery on Hollywood Boulevard was a big success BUT there were after-effects. As a tribute to Madonna, Kabbalah water was served to the art crowd. At five dollars per small bottle, it was quite an investment for the gallery. (The water is rumored to come from a Canadian bottling company that also provides familiar cheaper brands) Imagine the gallery’s SHOCK when partygoers complained for days after that the water sickened them. The pricey bottles were examined and found to be way PAST their expiration date! WOW is demanding a refund. Will they get it?

MADONNA AS YOU'VE NEVER SEEN HER BEFORE
