Once upon a time, even celebrities served in the armed forces! Probably the most celebrated (besides Clark Gable and Jimmy Stewart) was Elvis Presley. When he got his military haircut it made the front pages! However, Memorial Day is not to be taken lightly – we do appreciate every soldier who helped this country remain free. Our colleague in gossip, CJ, reporter for the Star Tribune, had an encounter at Comic Con Minnesota with former Hercules Kevin Sorbo. In fact ,we have often wondered what happened to that star of the popular 90’s TV series. Sorbo was a hot commodity at the convention, raking in big bucks – $40 for an autograph and $45 for a photo. But he laments the fact that he is NOT in demand in Hollywood and claims it’s his Christianity that makes him unpopular there. (He does lots of B movies, but not in Hollywood.) Whether it’s atheists or people of other religious persuasions who blackballed him he doesn’t specify – but it’s not cool to be Christian in Hollywood, according to Hercules. We’re not sure WHAT she did Saturday night, but Rihanna arrived at a Manhattan recording studio looking like THIS at 4 AM Sunday morning. And she appeared to be ready to get some work done. We love her “devil horns” hair style – it looks naughty and goes well with the fiery red color…

Soccer superstar Cristiano Ronaldo, 30, happens to be the undisputed hottest athlete in the world right now- and certainly one of the wealthiest. His split with Russian model Irina Shayk after five years was big news in the gossip world. Since then he’s dabbled with a few mannequins, but this weekend turned up at Monaco’s Gran Prix with model Cara Delevigne. Meanwhile his ambitious ex girlfriend Irina hooked up with Bradley Cooper, who recently split with model Suki Waterhouse, who has long been a close friend of Cara’s. Complicated? Yes. It’s not easy keeping track of modelizers and their prey….

The Amy Winehouse documentary was a huge success at Cannes – the audience loved it, her family – not so much. This trailer reminds us of how much we miss her. We loved writing about her and loved her style in photos. As the doc points out – she was a girl who just wanted to be loved….only she picked the wrong guy.
When we saw this photo from Cannes and learned that Gerard Depardieu and Isabelle Huppert costarred as husband and wife in “Valley of Love” we were appalled. He looked SO much older – it was like Hollywood casting where leading ladies are decades younger than leading men. Gerard, 66, is an appealing actor, but has not taken good care of himself. Imagine our surprise when we learned that girlish Isabelle is an age appropriate 62! She looks so fresh and young compared to him. You’ve got to give credit to French women who maintain their looks – but not the men.

Steve Carell changed his appearance for “Foxcatcher” last year and it got him an Oscar nomination, so why not try it again? He’s playing a slimy money manager who profited enormously from the 2007 economic meltdown in “The Big Short” currently filming New York. Steve highlighted his hair, gained a few pounds, put on an expensive suit, and assumed a vile attitude to get into character. The movie comes out next year.

North West is not even two years old and she’s already taking tap and ballet classes. Kim picked up her daughter after class and we’re betting Nori was the only student dressed all in BLACK! It’s her father Kanye’s favorite color. Imagine that – a black tutu! Nori also has a black leather motorcycle jacket like her mom’s, that Kim is carrying. We wonder if she’ll rebel when she gets a bit older and insist on PINK like the other little girls wear.

It was SO nice to see Rumer Willis win first place on Dancing with the Stars. This girl has been tortured by online haters more than any celebrity’s kid or actress we know. For some reason haters decided she wasn’t pretty enough to be Demi Moore’s daughter and they relentlessly bullied and insulted her. She admits it was terribly upsetting and almost ruined her life. Last night she got her life back. She IS a winner, after all!

Rene Zellweger, 45, has been happy for the two years she’s been with her musician boyfriend Doyle Bramhall, also 45, but his ex-wife is not so thrilled. Doyle divorced Susannah Melvoin in 2010, (remember her? She’s also a musician and had a fling with Prince back in the day.) Doyle and Susannah have two daughters and she claims that he’s neglectful in financially supporting his kids. Meanwhile, Doyle is living it up at Renee’s lush home in Montecito, California, so Susannah is REALLY irked. Some musicians have charmed lives.
