Celebrities like Charlize Theron and Christina Hendricks barely look up from their phones as they dash through traffic in New York. We often wonder if phones are actually used as a buffer to deter fans from interrupting them when they are out alone. Maybe they’re just pretending be wrapped up in texting or conversation so no one will bother them.
In honor of the Mad Men premier Sunday, The NY Daily News dug up some sexist advertisements from the mid-century era of the show. This is just the type of ad that Don Draper would have smirkingly approved. It’s amazing and laughable to look back at how women were held in such low regard in those days. Men ruled then, but soon feminism reared its beautiful head and times are still evolving. Hopefully, Beyonce, who seems to have forgotten the continued need for female equality, will take a close look at this. (Our favorite ad is by Van Heusen, above.)
Some men just look better in suits. We’ll take it a step further and say that MOST men look better in suits. Mad Men’s Don Draper makes women drool and wouldn’t it be nice if more men noticed his appeal and started wearing more suits? (Added benefit: wearing a suit implies that a man has a job or successful career.) Certainly nobody looks better in a suit than Jon Hamm. Hopefully when the series ends he will take some of Don Draper’s fashion habits with him…

Jon Hamm and his actress/screenwriter partner Jennifer Westfeldt were snapped leaving their LA home for the SAG Awards looking equally splendid. Jon has had many nominations for Mad Men, but for some reason rarely goes home with a trophy. Still, he shows up for the events, and adds glamour to the evening.

Don Draper is not just a hot commodity in the US, he and his Mad Men lifestyle are much admired in China. The LA Times reports that the 60’s era series is playing online with Chinese subtitles and fansites are multiplying. Part of the show’s appeal is said to be the fact that is closely resembles current Chinese culture – a high divorce rate, lots of smoking in the workplace, and a workforce dominated by men. Above, Jon Hamm is filming in Hawaii and we love his clean shaven look and manly trunks as opposed to grizzled guys in speedos today.

Didn’t Jon Hamm absorb a THING about men’s fashion after playing the dapper Don Draper on Mad Men all these years? Really, the Draper character is catnip to women of all ages and a lot of it is because of his immaculate grooming and style. Off camera, Hamm allows himself to look like any other schlump on the street. And he has all the basic ingredients of good looks and physique to work with! On a hot New York day, Don would have worn khaki pants and a neat sport shirt with loafers and shades. Of course, Jon’s look makes it easier to get around the city without those admiring glances…

One of our favorite Hollywood couples: Mad Men vamp Christina Hendricks and her husband, Body of Proof forensic pathologist Geoffrey Arend. They were photographed in New York after seeing a performance of “Death of a Salesman.” Married since 2009, Christina admits she fell for character actor Geoffrey very quickly because of his high energy and sense of humor. She describes him as the “best husband ever.”

“Saturday Night Live” comic Jason Sudeikis’s phone must be ringing nonstop. His ex-girlfriend January Jones of “Mad Men,” just announced that she is pregnant with her first child but she declined to name the father. Since Jason, 35, and January, 33, dated from July to this past January, all fingers are pointing at HIM as likeliest to be the father! We wonder if he’s freaking out, or in denial, or celebrating – anything can happen.
Admirers of Mad Men’s January Jones might be interested to hear that she has a weakness for funny men. Not gorgeous guys, comedians. She loves comics more than any other kind of guy – especially the ones on SNL. A knowledgeable source has informed us that she and Jason Sudeikis are just friends, however. She’s rumored to have had a flirtation with Fred Armisan and definitely had a fling with Jeremy Piven. Her search for the funniest guy in town is still underway.
