ELIZABETH MOSS GETS AWAY WITH BEING A SCIENTOLOGIST

For some reason Elizabeth Moss has been able to work non-stop in Hollywood (Mad Men, The Handmaid’s Tale, and now Shining Girls) and she has escaped all the negative comments about being a Scientologist that Tom Cruise and John Travolta have to live with. Perhaps she gets off easy because she is a second generation Scientologist – she was BORN into it. Also it helps that she politely avoids talking about it in interviews- the most specific thing she has said lately is that Scientology is “misunderstood.” She claims it is not a closed off religion – it is welcoming. (Sure, if you’re willing to take a “personality” test and give them money) We remember back in the 90’s when we broke the news that Tom Cruise was a Scientologist in Star Magazine- the church’s lawyers managed to illegally obtain a copy of my personal phone bill from the phone company and they found the name of my source (a former Scientologist) in order to punish her.

CHRISTINA HENDRICKS KNOWS WHAT SHE WANTS

And what Christina Hendricks wants – is to get ON with her life! She’s in New York promoting the third season of her NBC comedy/drama series Good Girls, looking cool and confident. The Mad Men star and her husband of ten years, Geoffrey Arend, announced their civilized split last October, and the very next day Christina was seen giving orders to movers at her house. She didn’t want to waste a minute. Christina also took advantage of awards season and attended parties, especially the Vanity Fair Oscar party, dressed to kill. She’s in a good place right now. (and check out those gloves!)

CHRISTINA HENDRICKS HAS HER PRIORITIES IN ORDER

Christina Hendricks is a single girl now and she’s not missing her daily walks and workouts. The Mad Men star revealed the split from her husband of ten years, Madame Secretary actor Geoffrey Arend, with a nicely worded announcement. She acknowledged that she and Geoffrey would always be grateful for the love they shared, and would still work together to raise their two beautiful dogs.

JON HAMM: MAD MAN ON TWO WHEELS?

When the seventh and final season of the hit show Mad Men wrapped, AMC executives presented the main players with a special thank-you gift. According to The Hollywood Reporter, January Jones and Jon Hamm, among others, each received a brand new shiny Vespa with the Mad Men logo on it. Appropriately, the motor scooters were madly popular during the late 50’s and 1960’s- especially in Italy. We wonder if any of the stars will chance riding the compact bikes in Los Angeles traffic. Probably in a few years the scooters will turn up in Hollywood memorabilia auctions and bring a pretty penny.

JANUARY JONES’ LIFE GOES ON AFTER “MAD MEN”

Perhaps inspired by Pharrell Williams, January Jones, 36, is protecting her face from the hot sun in a tall Panama hat. She and her 2 and 1/2 year old little boy Xander were seen playing together at a park. She has never revealed who her son’s father is. And since Xander was born, she doesn’t seem to have had another boyfriend. January recently put the Los Feliz home she’s had for five years on the market and she’s been shopping for a home in Pasadena. Mad Men night be over but she’s now starring in the movie Good Kill with Ethan Hawke.

MAD MEN: WELCOME TO 1969

Mad Men’s final season takes place in 1969 and what a year that was for fashion! By then, Betsey Johnson ruled, not Balenciaga. Those pointy stiletto heels gave way to the squashed heel (or kitten heel) with square toes. Women could run faster. Girdles were long gone and bras were optional. The A-line dresses were short but colorful and comfy. Almost all women wore “falls” to augment their hair and false eyelashes. Hippie style was just around the corner. Of course the office versions of current styles were somewhat modified, but you get the idea. Wah! We’re going to MISS Mad Men!

JON HAMM: WORST DRESSED FROM THE NECK UP

One of the most noteworthy looks on the red carpet at the Emmys was certainly the tragedy of Mad Men star Jon Hamm. When he appeared onstage as a presenter his big beard dominated the TV screen and on ours it looked like it was dyed black. Yikes! Why do handsome men do this to themselves? Hamm just “decided to stop shaving for awhile.” So we were deprived of a look at his manly face. He’s far too young and attractive to hide behind a beard.

MAD MEN’S ELISABETH MOSS IS GREAT, EXCEPT FOR ONE THING….

Mad Men star Elisabeth Moss is in Brooklyn filming “Listen Up Phillip.” Despite all the Tom Cruise and Leah Remini Scientology stories in the news lately, Moss, who is also a member, has been significantly quiet. She claims Scientology made her “a better person,” but will she ever speak to Leah again?

JON HAMM: TOO HOT FOR THE EMMYS?

Photo via: Mad Men
Are his good looks preventing Mad Men’s Jon Hamm from taking home an Emmy? According to award show expert Tom O’Neil, (goldderby.com) that is the explanation. This year Jon got his sixth nomination for his acclaimed series, but it’s unlikely he will ever win the trophy. O’Neil explains:
“Hollywood is run by a bunch of old geezer guys who say to these handsome leading men, ‘You have good looks, money, the babes, the whole world at your feet. Here’s the one thing you can’t have. We have power to withhold this one thing.’
The NY Post points out that handsome TV actors ARE often overlooked: George Clooney was nominated twice for E.R. and lost, nominees David Duchovny lost several times for The X Files, and Rob Lowe never won for The West Wing. So perhaps Jon Hamm can console himself with this theory when he leaves the award show empty handed yet again.
