WHAT DONALD TRUMP DID FOR ARSENIO HALL

Winning Celebrity Apprentice in 2012 changed Arsenio Hall’s life more than any previous winner’s. From ’89 to ’94 Arsenio’s talk show was hot and he was riding high. He was actually very funny and enthusiastic – the fact that he seems a little gay sometimes makes him even more interesting and colorful. After the show went off the air, Arsenio scrambled for small movie roles, TV guest spots, and voice-overs. In 2008, the recession hit him hard – he declared bankruptcy, claiming only $765 in assets. When Celebrity Apprentice came along, the drought was OVER, thanks to Donald Trump. His show debuts September 9 on CBS. (Above, Arsenio and Liz Taylor on his original show, below, Arsenio today.)

ARSENIO HALL PARLAYED CELEBRITY APPRENTICE INTO A SHOWBIZ COMEBACK

We were happy to see Arsenio Hall turn out to be the winner on Celebrity Apprentice. Happily, neither of the smart but mean spirited women, Lisa Lampanelli or Aubrey O’Day, came out on top. When his talk show went off the air in the mid 90’s, Arsenio disappeared. During his heyday, he palled around with Eddie Murphy and they ruled the club scene and made funny movies. When that ended Arsenio dropped out of sight and we’re betting he felt forgotten by his showbiz friends. So it was nice to see him resurface on Celebrity Apprentice and use it as a way to get back in the spotlight. It worked. He’s got several offers for another talk show and seems thrilled with it all.

LISA LAMPANELLI AND OTHERS SHOW THEIR “TRUE COLORS” ON CELEBRITY APPRENTICE

Lisa Lampanelli is using “Celebrity Apprentice” to make herself more famous but also universally disliked. Her outright bullying and egotistical tirades against Dayana “Miss Universe” Mendoza on the show are an embarrassment. (And a disgrace to the female sex!) Yes, contestants are paid a lot to be on this show and they are pushed to have conflicts and meltdowns. But to completely abandon the idea of decent manners and treatment of others is inexcusable. One can criticize another person without histrionics and demeaning insults. Donald Trump seems to be gleefully bringing out the WORST in everybody. Aubrey O’Day has the same kind of ego and sense of entitlement as Lisa, but she’s SNEAKY about it. And Arsenio Hall and Clay Aiken aren’t the nice guys we thought they were. Of all people, New Jersey Housewife Teresa Giudice so far seems clearly appalled by the others’ behavior. As a result of these performers destroying their own reputations, the show is MESMERIZING.
