Tom Hanks

WHAT IS TOM HANKS THINKING?

Tom Hanks had an interesting look on his face when he appeared on the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival for the premier of his Wes Anderson science fiction film Asteroid City. The movie, set in a desert town in the 50’s, got a six minute standing ovation and good reviews – the visuals are enough to make one swoon. Tom and Rita were standing close to costar Scarlett Johansson when Tom seemed to become rather upset. It turned out to be a non-situation, but Just for fun, can YOU provide a CAPTION for this odd photo? (be creative!)

CHET HANKS: THE BLAME GAME

The funniest thing we heard this week was Chet Hanks whining that people “hate him” because he comes from a famous and wealthy family. He actually went on to say that his father Tom Hanks was “not a strong male role model” because he didn’t warn Chet, 31, that people might react that way. Chet felt disrespected (a word I loathe) by his peers, claims “They talk behind my back” and says he needed someone to tell him these people are just jealous. Granted, Chet is seeking acceptance in the rap world while using the DJ name Chet Haze and by releasing the video White Boy Summer, featuring twerking girls and vintage cars. Despite his upbringing, Chet speaks “Black English” and prefers to be seen shirtless, revealing his multiple tattoos and muscles. That’s enough to turn anybody off, Chet, so don’t blame your decent and universally admired father for your popularity problems…

CHET HANKS: “I’M THE BLACK SHEEP OF THE FAMILY”

Musician/actor Chet Hanks is the first to admit that his father Tom Hanks’ clean cut image makes him look like a bad boy. Chet, 30, started off rapping at Northwestern University where he was actually in a fraternity. Besides music, he’s been getting steady work as an actor, with recurring roles on Empire and Shameless. He struggled with substance abuse and in 2015 he broke down and went to rehab for cocaine addiction. He’s had his share of girlfriend problems- involving restraining orders, lawsuits etc, so he’s definitely no Tom Hanks. But he’s been getting acting work – NCIS: New Orleans, and has a role in Tom’s film Greyhound. Above he showed up at Doja Cat’s album release party in Hollywood.

RITA WILSON: BAD NEWS FOR US, GOOD NEWS FOR PFIZER

Rita Wilson and Ellen Degeneres chatted about Covid-19 on Ellen today and Rita revealed a pertinent piece of information. Rita and hubby Tom Hanks were the first celebrities diagnosed with Covid, and they announced it on March 12, 2020, from Australia where they remained in isolation for two weeks. Rita told Ellen that 9 months after her recovery she still had antibodies. BUT, two months later, Rita was tested again and had NONE! Presumably she can now catch Covid again, and needs vaccine like everyone else. This of course implies that we will probably all have to be vaccinated for Covid EVERY YEAR just like we get flu shots! Good news for the drug manufacturers…

TOM HANKS GOT US TO THINKING “WHAT IF?”

We tuned in to Saturday Night Live a few minutes late and were surprised to see Tom Hanks hosting and looking quite bald. Shocking – was this an after-effect of coronavirus? Apparently he explained early on that he shaved his head for a role – presumably Col Tom Parker in the Elvis movie. But it got us to thinking: Imagine this pandemic if coronavirus DID cause hair to fall out! Certainly everyone would take it A WHOLE LOT more seriously! Young people would NOT be jogging or sunning on the beach – they would be the first ones isolating at home wearing masks! Simon Cowell would NOT be riding his bike! People would stay TEN feet away from each other and rarely leave the house. Aren’t we lucky that baldness is NOT caused by the virus!

TOM HANKS AND RITA WILSON ARE THE MOST FAMOUS CORONAVIRUS VICTIMS – AND THEY ARE CALM

Somehow it’s comforting to hear that Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson tested positive for coronavirus. They are being totally open about the situation and plan to reveal everything as it happens. Tom described his and Rita’s symptoms so far, and they weren’t alarming. They are in Australia where he was preparing to play Colonel Tom Parker in a movie about Elvis Presley. Tom says he expects to be tested and isolated for as long as necessary and is “taking it one day at a time.” We look forward to his diary of events…

TOM HANKS IS PERFECTLY CAST AS CAPTAIN SULLY SULLENBERGER

Clint Eastwood loves a hero, (and an occasional heroine) so it makes perfect sense that HE would develop the story of Sully Sullenberger, the courageous airline pilot who saved 155 people with his perfect crash landing on the Hudson River. In 2009, Captain Sullenberger’s flight was interrupted by a flock of geese caught in the engines and after he carefully guided the plane into the water, he made sure every passenger was safely removed. Sully was a national hero and his modesty made him even more appealing. Who could better play that role than nice guy Tom Hanks? Perfect casting. Above, Eastwood and Hanks discuss the next scene they’re filming on location in NYC.

CAPTAIN SULLY IS NOW A MOVIE

Of course. The story of Captain Sullenberger – the nonchalant pilot who miraculously and safely landed a disabled jet on the Hudson River in 2009 and saved all the passengers – is being filmed by Clint Eastwood. (There’s nothing Clint likes better than a hero – or heroine.) And who better to play the modest hero than Tom Hanks! Tom is currently negotiating for the role and we can’t imagine better casting.

TOM HANKS RIDES THE NEW YORK SUBWAY ANONYMOUSLY

This photo of Tom Hanks may LOOK like a scene from a movie, but it’s not. We’re told Tom rode the Manhattan subway downtown hoping he wouldn’t be noticed, but someone did recognize him. Hanks recently finished filming St James Place in New York – he played a lawyer recruited by the CIA during the cold war to help rescue a pilot detained in Russia. It was directed by his best buddy Steven Spielberg.
