WHY YOU SHOULD SEE RICHARD TANNER IN “SMALL PARTS”

#richardtanner #janetcharlton

Does this face look familiar? This is a special week for our actor friend Richard Tanner who does NOT bear a strong resemblance to Marilyn Monroe in the photo above, but he’s funnier. His one man show “Small Parts” is debuting with four out-of town performances November 15 thru 18 at the Flight Theater in Hollywood. We’ve seen part of this act and couldn’t get enough. Richard has been struggling -and sometimes working- as an actor in Hollywood for decades and he is LOADED with hilarious stories about the celebrities he’s worked with, and the TV shows and movies he appeared in. We LOVED his tale about the first major Hollywood party he went to and his revealing encounters with Rosie O’Donnell, Billy Crystal, Bette Midler etc. Richard’s amusing take on Hollywood (with an arsenal of visual delights) is priceless and we predict he will take this appealing show all the way to Broadway. See it NOW while it’s affordable!

BANKRUPT GARY BUSEY TRIED TO KEEP UP THE “HOLLYWOOD LIFESTYLE”

Acquaintances of Gary Busey are not the least bit surprised that he filed for bankruptcy because he’s “never had a good grip on his finances.” “Gary still spends and acts like he’s an A-list star” we were told. Gary was nominated for an Oscar for “The Buddy Holly Story” in the late 70’s, followed by a number of successful movies like ”Lethal Weapon.” After that, his income went down, but his spending DIDN’T. He’s never owned a house because he always had bad credit. But he HAD to keep up “the image” so he RENTED a (modest) Malibu house for years, and drove a 20 plus year old Mercedes. Recently Gary got lucky and clicked on the reality show circuit (above, Gary on Celebrity Wife Swap) and made some money, but “spent it like the big star he isn’t any more.”

COPS ARE INVESTIGATING SPOTLIGHT BAR PATRONS REGARDING “HEAD IN A BAG” MURDER

We heard a little info about the “head in a bag” found in the Hollywood Hills. Since the murder victim was identified as Hervey Medellin, 66, a retired airline employee, investigators are looking for people who used to frequent the Spotlight dive bar in Hollywood, which closed in September. This sleazy but popular and well-known bar was almost half a century old – Keifer Sutherland drank there and Brad Pitt tried to buy the place at one time. It was also a gay bar where older men often picked up young hustlers. Police are following a tip that the murdered man met someone there awhile back and he may be a suspect. Just passing on what we heard….

DEBBIE REYNOLDS WAVES GOODBYE TO A LIFETIME COLLECTION, BUT SHE’S IN THE MONEY NOW!

Debbie Reynolds’ Hollywood costume auction this weekend was a roller coaster of emotional ups and downs. It was nice to see Debbie solving her financial problems after being robbed blind by not one, but two good-for-nothing husbands. But it was undeniably sad to see her dream of opening a Hollywood museum go up in smoke. She acquired most of her massive collection at the big MGM sale around 40 years ago and has been storing and caring for them ever since. Sadder still is the fact that most of the collectibles were purchased by foreigners and will be taken out of the country. A Saudi Arabian voice on the phone paid 4.6 million for Marilyn Monroe’s white “Seven Year Itch” subway dress. A man from a Japanese museum quietly purchased Judy Garland’s “Wizard of Oz” dress and ruby sequin slippers for $910,000 and $510,000. One of our personal favorites- Joan Crawford’s waitress uniform from “Mildred Pierce” only pulled in $22,500- maybe THAT will stay in the US.

KOBE BRYANT DOESN’T BELONG ON THE HOLLYWOOD WALK OF FAME

A great injustice against Hollywood has been perpetrated by the owner of Grauman’s Chinese Theater or the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce – they allowed basketball player Kobe Bryant to add his handprints to the cement in front of Grauman’s . HELLO – Grauman’s and the Walk of Fame are intended for performers, writers, movie makers, and people in show business! What the heck is going ON here? Kobe is NOT an actor. Why should his prints share space with Clark Gable, Gary Cooper, and Bette Davis? Wouldn’t his prints be more appropriate outside of the Staples Center? It’s a travesty and a crime.

IN DEFENSE OF JENNIFER ANISTON

We can understand why Rupert Everett would make those unfavorable comments about Jennifer Aniston. He would prefer to see Hollywood actors paid in accordance with their training and skill as opposed to popularity. Rupert pointed out that Jennifer films flop after flop and remains on the salary A-list. He’s right, but he’s overlooked the years Jennifer spent on “Friends” forging a bond with her fans. It was one of the must successful TV series EVER, and naturally it got her type cast as a cute girl next door. She doesn’t have much choice – these disposable romantic comedies are the roles offered her and she does the best with them that she can. She knows she’s lucky. Don’t hold it against her, Rupert.

HOLLYWOOD HISTORY AUCTION DEFIES THE RECESSION

We’re often amazed at what Hollywood memorabilia sells for and we have a big auction by Profiles in History coming up this month in Beverly Hills just in time for Christmas. If you’re shopping for the person who has everything, he or she might be pleasantly surprised to receive Johnny Depp’s Edward Scissorhands costume which is expected to go for $100 to 200 thousand dollars. For the hard-core collector, the incredibly beautiful original poster for Universal’s 1933 classic “The Invisible Man,” is expected to fetch a cool $200 to 300 thousand dollars. The event takes place December 17 and 18 at the Saban Theater in Beverly Hills.

In the not-so-distant past, Levi Johnston (the mouthy father of Bristol Palin’s baby Tripp) was referred to by the Palin family as “Mr Hollywood” because he was scrambling for a show business career. The worm has turned. Encouraged by her reception on “Dancing With The Stars,” Bristol Palin has acquired an agent and not only is SHE going Hollywood, but she had her two year old Tripp sign with her agent also.
