What good can possibly come from locking up Michael Douglas’s son Cameron in jail for ten years to life? His track record isn’t nearly as bad as Farrah Fawcett’s son Redmond, but he’s confessed to drug dealing and that is the resulting sentence. He didn’t injure anybody and he didn’t get caught driving under the influence – he’s a danger mostly to himself. It’s a nonviolent, victimless crime. He’s messed up, but these harsh drug laws need to be revised. Personally, we take enormous satisfaction in seeing REAL criminals punished, but this is different. Prison is not always the answer. We feel awful for Michael Douglas, who showed up in court for Cameron.

He’s from one of the most famous families in America. He could have been anything he wanted and he chose to be a drug dealer. It’s really hard to feel sorry for someone who had the best things in life and just threw it away. He did the crime, he needs to do the time.

I do agree with Janet that drug laws need to be re-examined and revised in a more realistic manner. But maybe Redmond wouldn’t have such a long track record if the law HAD been tougher on him sooner. That kid was allowed to slide by because of who his parents are, and it did him no favors.

As for Michael Douglas showing up in court – that’s all fine and good, but he has admitted many times to being an awful father to Cameron. He shouldn’t get props just for being there when his son is being sentenced. Better parenting might have prevented some of this.

Everytime a drug deal takes place someone pays with their lives IMO.
There are thousands of people who die from drug deals gone wrong and overdoses everyday. Not to mention the fact that there are neighbourhoods that have been destroyed by the drug trade.
Cameron had all the priveleges of growing up in a wealthy household. He may have been neglected but he made his choices in life and now he is paying the price. Hopefully prison will be his wake up call.

I know this kid is not selling to my kids because I raised my kids right, they get good grades, cannot go out past 6pm on school days and no later than midnight on weekends. I wait up for them when they come in, my kids are accountable for their actions as am I. I would feel like a deadbeat if I ever slacked and not let my kids know I cared about everything they do. if one of them were to ever stumble home drunk they would know I would be right there waiting for them when they came home and they would have to look me in my face and they would know I would drag them to a hospital for drug testing at that very moment. my parents did this same thing to me and me and my brothers and sisters never so much as smoked a cigarette.

If he was, as he’s admitted, dealing drugs – then he’s lucky he wasn’t executed. In many countries he would have been. I worked the ER for 30 years and the victims of his crime, the people who bought from him or his peers were pitiable. Then there are the people who were mugged to get the money to buy the drugs. You need to be educated – dealing drugs is NOT a victimless crime.

He claimed his soul went to the burning depths of hell and he heard and saw the screams of the damned. Then the docs shocked him back to life and that is when he wrote this true story. He took a lie detector test and it was proved that he did not make it up. I would like to talk to Cameron and show him the consequences of his downward spiral. Michael D. could use a lesson too, and to realize that he does not know when the Grim Reaper will come calling.

This boy had everything handed to him. This is a shame, when multitudes don’t have enough money for medicines and food. He needs to be put in a strict boot camp where there are Bible courses and counseling, plus good hard work. Then he should have to spend 500 hours helping out and living in a homeless shelter. Redmond was possessing and using. Cameron was dealing. There is a world of difference. Plus, Redmond is in state system in California, where they try to rehab. Cameron is in the federal system that has harsh penalties for dealing drugs. But, it sounds like he is going to snitch, so he may get less time (due to cooperation and such). He is still going to do time though; no cushy rehab for him. He is getting exactly what anyone else in his position would get. He deserves no favors.
Janet, I share the sentiments expressed by most here. I live in the Greater Toronto Area, and in the span of 15 years, it has gone from being “New York designed by the Swiss” to a crime-ravaged city. Most of this is due to gangs and drugs. And it is recreational drug users who are largely responsible. What harm can a joint or a tab do? Check out the hookers and junkies, and the areas controlled by organized crime. I actually think that the American system is right RE this issue – anyone caught with illegal drugs? Lock em up and throw away the key!
