THE TRAGEDY OF CAMERON DOUGLAS

What good can possibly come from locking up Michael Douglas’s son Cameron in jail for ten years to life? His track record isn’t nearly as bad as Farrah Fawcett’s son Redmond, but he’s confessed to drug dealing and that is the resulting sentence. He didn’t injure anybody and he didn’t get caught driving under the influence – he’s a danger mostly to himself. It’s a nonviolent, victimless crime. He’s messed up, but these harsh drug laws need to be revised. Personally, we take enormous satisfaction in seeing REAL criminals punished, but this is different. Prison is not always the answer. We feel awful for Michael Douglas, who showed up in court for Cameron.

  1. there are mandatory sentencing guidelines; why should he get off, just because his Dad is famous? Don’t do the crime if you can’t do the time

  2. Drug dealing is a victimless crime? I disagree. The victim is the addict buying it and with drugs, crime is never far off. People steal for the money to buy. I can’t even believe you wrote its nonviolent. How many deals gone wrong have gotten people killed? It’s pure luck it didnt happen to Cameron already. I can’t even believe you wrote this Janet.

  3. I agree with Dragonfly. This guy has been into drugs his whole life. He is worthless. They should lock him up and throw away the key. He probably sells to school kids.

  4. noblecascade of s.., why don´t you kill yourself and stop bothering with your nasty comments? You seem to dislike everyone, hater!!

  5. Why did you waste time writing this post? I guess the question should probably be, how much were you paid to write it?
You said it yourself, he’s a CONFESSED drug dealer. I would be more apt to agree with you on the victimless crime if he was just a drug user but once you start dealing, the crime is no longer victimless.
He’s from one of the most famous families in America. He could have been anything he wanted and he chose to be a drug dealer. It’s really hard to feel sorry for someone who had the best things in life and just threw it away. He did the crime, he needs to do the time.

  6. Janet, where do you think the drugs came from that Cameron was dealing. are you aware of the drug killings going on in the border towns in Mexico? Juarez had over 5000 murders in one year due to drug wars- and the drugs are being brought into the US. how can you say this isn’t a violent crime?

  7. You stupid fool. If a family member of yours died from drugs, you surely would feel differently. As it is, you obviously do not care about the horror of drug addiction and what it does to families. God…you are beyond clueless. Maybe it is time to retire.

  8. You gotta be kidding me, victimless crime?

He was caught trying to move half a pound of crystal meth. That’s enough to mess up a lot of lives.

  9. the united states is maybe the wrong country for being a celebrity’s cild and also act “NORMAL”?

  10. Get over yourself Janet. I have known Cameron Douglas for over 15 years, and he has always been a junkie P.O.S. He could have done anything with his life and instead he decided to become a methhead douchebag. You’re a complete idiot for saying this is a victimless crime and I hope he rots in jail with daily rapes for his conscious decision to be a druggie asshole.

  11. I do agree with Janet that drug laws need to be re-examined and revised in a more realistic manner. But maybe Redmond wouldn’t have such a long track record if the law HAD been tougher on him sooner. That kid was allowed to slide by because of who his parents are, and it did him no favors.

  12. How can this be victimless? He deals drugs to people like Redmond and benefits off their weaknesses and addictions.

  13. i am shocked janet would make such statements. sorry, but cameron douglas IS one of the real criminals. he is going where he deserves to go.

  14. I would like to get Cameron Douglas and Redmond O’Neal in a room and tell them what will really happen to them if they don’t reject this stronghold in their lives. Guaranteed there is only ONE way to get into their demon drugged up minds. After 4 or 5 hours, if they don’t respond, it won’t be on my head. Too bad their parents (especially fathers) were heathens and that heaven and hell were never fully explained.

  15. I’ve been a silent reader and fan for awhile, but I was absolutely appalled to see this post. “He didn’t injure anybody and he didn’t get caught driving under the influence – he’s a danger mostly to himself. It’s a nonviolent, victimless crime.”??? Cameron was a METH dealer, one of the worst drugs out there. Perhaps he was a nonviolent criminal in the typical sense of the word, but who knows how many lives Cameron is directly responsible for messing up. Hundreds? Thousands?

And in regards to Redmond… he should be in jail, too, with the key thrown away.

As for Michael Douglas showing up in court – that’s all fine and good, but he has admitted many times to being an awful father to Cameron. He shouldn’t get props just for being there when his son is being sentenced. Better parenting might have prevented some of this.

Movie stars shouldn’t get a free pass and neither should their children.

  16. Such is the world of manditory minimums…you plead guilty, you do the time.

  17. I agree with the majority. Throw Cameron & Redmond in jail and throw away the key!

  18. Are you kidding me?? do you have any idea what type of weight this kid was holding?? lol gimme an effin break …He belongs in prison !!

  19. With all the money these parents have, can’t they put their kids in rehab indefinitely? I disagree it is a victimless crime. I was shocked to read this “story” that we should feel sorry for this criminal (and other drug-dealing criminals) and let him off with a slap on the wrist. Robert Downey Jr. was a famous druggie. He cleaned himself up and got on with his life. There’s no reason Redmond and Cameron can’t do the same.

  20. This should be titled, “The Tragedy of Janet Charlton.” Who paid you to put this crap about a “victimless crime” on your website? What??? It was crystal meth and he sold it! He was dealing!!! Honestly, you cannot really believe what you wrote. You are too old and experienced not to know better. I’m shocked that you went this route.

  21. I agree with you Toby and Dragonfly. Drug dealing is never a victimless crime.

Everytime a drug deal takes place someone pays with their lives IMO.

There are thousands of people who die from drug deals gone wrong and overdoses everyday. Not to mention the fact that there are neighbourhoods that have been destroyed by the drug trade.

Cameron had all the priveleges of growing up in a wealthy household. He may have been neglected but he made his choices in life and now he is paying the price. Hopefully prison will be his wake up call.

  22. Noble Cascade: Yes, good for you, Hooray.
I can’t believe what Ana said.

Maybe Janet had a hangover or drunk when she made these irresponsible comments. We may hear a revision of her words later. Maybe?

  23. Drug dealing is about as victimless as driving a school bus drunk. This guy is selling to MY kids, maybe yours too, Janet.

  24. Thanks Jasper. I bet if we did a bit of research maybe we would find Ana is Cameron’s dealer!

  25. I have lost all respect for you with this idiotic post. Meth is the scourge of the US. I live in the Midwest and meth has destroyed COUNTLESS lives and families. The danger from cleaning up the CRAP that is used to make it is a great danger in itself. Snorting death is all it can be compared to. You are clueless. How sad.

  26. He was selling drugs which does not make this a “victimless” crime. His file is sealed leading me to think he’s giving information to the feds.

  27. I think after more than 3 drug offenses, regardless of the magnitude, they should just give people like this douglas kid all the drugs they want in a little cell until they kill themselves, afterall; arent they committing a slow form of suicide, why not speed up the process? stop being so soft you ugly old bag.

  28. I know this kid is not selling to my kids because I raised my kids right, they get good grades, cannot go out past 6pm on school days and no later than midnight on weekends. I wait up for them when they come in, my kids are accountable for their actions as am I. I would feel like a deadbeat if I ever slacked and not let my kids know I cared about everything they do. if one of them were to ever stumble home drunk they would know I would be right there waiting for them when they came home and they would have to look me in my face and they would know I would drag them to a hospital for drug testing at that very moment. my parents did this same thing to me and me and my brothers and sisters never so much as smoked a cigarette.

  29. you have to be on those kids or they will do whatever they want.a lot of parents dont even have dinner with their kids every night so that they know what their kids think and do with their days.

  30. Victimless? Are you mad? How much were you paid to write such drivel.

It’s going to be a long time before I visit this site again, if ever.

  31. Hail Larry, Sheesh, loosen the noose a little would ya? You’re killing me here with your overbearing ways. And drug testing would do what? Confirm that your kid came home drunk? Then what?

  32. umm, janet, honey, you get a loud BOO. it’s one thing for an individual to choose to use drugs, but it’s another to sell them to others. you need to rethink your story.

  33. If he was, as he’s admitted, dealing drugs – then he’s lucky he wasn’t executed. In many countries he would have been. I worked the ER for 30 years and the victims of his crime, the people who bought from him or his peers were pitiable. Then there are the people who were mugged to get the money to buy the drugs. You need to be educated – dealing drugs is NOT a victimless crime.

  34. L’il Off Broadway is right on. I have a little booklet wherein a man gave his testimony that he was in a bad wreck and died for about 3 minutes on the operating table. He claimed his soul went to the burning depths of hell and he heard and saw the screams of the damned. Then the docs shocked him back to life and that is when he wrote this true story. He took a lie detector test and it was proved that he did not make it up. I would like to talk to Cameron and show him the consequences of his downward spiral. Michael D. could use a lesson too, and to realize that he does not know when the Grim Reaper will come calling.

BTW, I like Noble Cascade’s comment also, where he said Ana might be Cameron’s dealer.
Whoever Ana is, he/she is one sick puppy.

  35. This boy had everything handed to him. This is a shame, when multitudes don’t have enough money for medicines and food. He needs to be put in a strict boot camp where there are Bible courses and counseling, plus good hard work. Then he should have to spend 500 hours helping out and living in a homeless shelter. Then maybe he would come to his senses and count the many blesings he has been given. This is the only thing that might shock him into giving up drugs/booze. If that does not work, he should go to jail for a very very long time.

  36. Had this been some black kid from Harlem and not some rich kid whoes dad is a celebrity, would you have the same opinion Janet?

  37. I’m sorry, but I just cannot give this punk a free pass. He’s a DRUG DEALER, Janet. How could you even attempt to make that sound harmless? A victimless crime? What planet are you from? You must just make stupid comments like that to get a reaction. Go buy a clue!

  38. My dears.

Im my days a young man would not be running around looking like a wet rat. Shame on this new low life hollywood. I balme the parents.

  39. What! What! What! Now I know someone stepped in it trying to cut this dodo some slack and for that they smell, bad. He needs to go to jail for a while. He might as well practice standing with his booty against the wall too.

And when he is released and does it again, send him back. The dope is a millionaire for goodness sake. His mama made sure before she divorced daddy. He don’t need the money dealing. He is just evil, evil I tell ya.

  40. What the hell was he dealing drugs for anyway? He sure as hell didn’t need the money!! He even had the opportunity to begin a movie career thanks to his heritage and was in a movie with BOTH his dad and granddad! And the asshole went and threw it all away for drugs! Must have been born without a brain! Throw away the key!!!!

  41. Redmond was possessing and using. Cameron was dealing. There is a world of difference. Plus, Redmond is in state system in California, where they try to rehab. Cameron is in the federal system that has harsh penalties for dealing drugs. But, it sounds like he is going to snitch, so he may get less time (due to cooperation and such). He is still going to do time though; no cushy rehab for him. He is getting exactly what anyone else in his position would get. He deserves no favors.

  42. Janet, I share the sentiments expressed by most here. I live in the Greater Toronto Area, and in the span of 15 years, it has gone from being “New York designed by the Swiss” to a crime-ravaged city. Most of this is due to gangs and drugs. And it is recreational drug users who are largely responsible. What harm can a joint or a tab do? Check out the hookers and junkies, and the areas controlled by organized crime. I actually think that the American system is right RE this issue – anyone caught with illegal drugs? Lock em up and throw away the key!

  43. get this.. He enables the suffering and death; no illegal drug dealers = no drug takers, no deaths from abusing your body, no death for those who grow it and those who die by the corruption of society around them when gangs take over.. NO EXCUSE for breaking the law and poisoning other humans, causing misery, violence and mayhem to the world., as Jr. already knows better, has been educated lives in a good home with a secure and wealthy family

  44. Why don’t you people get all fired up over the doctors and pharmaceuticals who pump many more really harmful yet legal drugs into the population, all the in the name of their bottom lines? Why not get outraged at your own government, who brought heroin and cocaine into this county during the Vietnam War concealed in the bodies of dead soldiers? You really think inner-city dealers could afford planes back then? What about those scumbags Ollie North and Reagan? How much did they import for us to finance Iran Contra? Crack and meth really took off because the government cracked down so hard on pot, which is harmless and even therapeutic. As long as there’s a market, there will be dealers, legal and illegal. And boy do we ever have a MARKET in this country!!

  45. Your statement was so irresponsible and idiotic. I will no longer read this column.
