Mel Gibson hasn’t looked this happy for a long time. He just finished a sushi lunch but he also has a movie out now and not long ago he was afraid he might never get another acting job. He’s appearing as a villainous arms smuggler in “The Expendables 3.” He also just finished another movie, “Blood father” in which he plays an ex-con father trying to protect his teenage daughter from vengeful drug dealers. Villainous roles are perfect for him at this stage in his career

Mel Gibson,58, has done a great job of disguising himself. He showed up in Cannes to promote his movie The Expendables 3 with this highly unattractive beard. Remember, Mel was once voted “Sexiest Man Alive” by People magazine and no one protested. His pretty face was the ticket to Mel’s success (who didn’t love Mad Max?) but now it’s totally and voluntarily covered. He’s about to start filming another move, Blood Father soon, and we bet the facial hair will be gone. He must be secretly thrilled by the Donald Sterling tape scandal, having barely survived his own tape scandal. Coincidentally, both Donald and Mel were taped by their girlfriends! At least Mel knows he’s not the only dumb guy in Hollywood.

Mel Gibson continues to hit home runs with the ladies. He and a very attractive mystery date (no word on whether she has an eastern European accent) attended Maria Menounos’s birthday luau at her house, but they didn’t dress in tropical attire for the occasion. The party was packed with rowdy Kardashians and Mel and his date decided to leave early.

Everything old is new again. Tom Hardy (above right) is hot and sexy in his reincarnated role in the new “Mad Max,” and he certainly compares favorably to the original star Mel Gibson in his prime. But will the new movie have the fashion impact of the original? The ragged, post-apocalyptic look of the original 1979 film with its abundance of twisted metal, feathers, and leather, was an inspiration to designers and club kids in the fashion world. It took the punk look one step further. Mel Gibson’s Max will be hard to beat.

His latest companion is a good match for him – she’s a stunt woman currently in training for a black belt in karate. Italian born Ashley Cusate, 38, has only been in Hollywood for five years and she’s already stunt doubled for Jennifer Aniston, Penelope Cruz, and Anne Hathaway, and has built quite a career for herself. She and Mel have been seeing each other for about a month and seemed quite affectionate Sunday at Nobu in Malibu.

MEL GIBSON AND CHARLIE SHEEN ARE TEAMING UP AGAIN

Lifetime’s stunt casting of Lindsay Lohan in Liz & Dick – most likely purely for publicity purposes – seems to be catching on in Hollywood. Director Robert Rodriguez has an impressive cast assembled for his Machete Kills movie – including Sofia Vergara, Amber Heard (Johnny Depp’s rumored fling) Jessica Alba, and Michelle Rodriguez. He also hired MEL GIBSON to play an eccentric billionaire arms dealer and CHARLIE SHEEN to play the President of the Untied States! Both Mel and Charlie rank up there with Lindsay in the “notoriety for negative reasons” department. Ironically, Mel tried to help Charlie during his famed “meltdown.” Will the novelty of these two fill theater seats? We doubt it. Viewers are WAY less likely to fork over $18 for movie tickets to see a train wreck, than they are to sit home and watch it on TV for free.

Does Mel Gibson have another attractive long-haired Russian girlfriend? Not this time. He took a walk in his neighborhood with “Revenge” actress Madeleine Stowe with whom he costarred in “We Were Soldiers” in 2002. Madeleine now lives in Texas with her husband Brian Benben and their daughter May. She and Mel remained friends and could be reminiscing – or talking about a new project.

Both Mel Gibson and his estranged wife Robyn showed up at Premiere nightclub to celebrate the 24th birthday of his son Christian. Christian had an unidentified blonde date and how many of his five brothers and sister were all in attendance is not known. One thing for sure – being Mel Gibson’s son is not what it used to be.

Mel Gibson must be scratching his head, wondering how Charlie Sheen can be nude and screaming the “N” word and get away with it all. Mel’s head cleared up enough for him to contribute 9.6 million tax free dollars to his own Holy Family catholic church in Malibu. The tiny church on Mel’s property has a congregation of only 100 people and it’s already worth 60 million. Is he stashing money so Oksana can’t get her hands on it? This brings to mind the need for religious organizations to be TAXED and have financial transparency just like everyone else. Scientologists and Hasidics have bought up half of Hollywood and pay no property taxes! Now is the time to change this archaic law. Meg Whitman, are you listening?
