TORI SPELLING TAKES A CAFFFEINE BREAK FROM CHRISTMAS PREPARATION

Photo via: Daily Mail

Tori Spelling and her husband Dean McDermott took a Christmas shopping break to get an energy boost – in the form of a whole bunch of coffee and edibles at Starbucks. Christmas is a big deal at Tori’s house – she has three kids to please (Hattie was born in October) along with a menagerie of animals. Tori has cats, dogs, bunnies, goats, a chicken, and a pig. Despite the crowd, Tori says another baby is a strong possibility.

HIS WIFE BETH MADE HOWARD STERN A BETTER PERSON

Howard Stern’s beautiful wife Beth appeared on the Good Morning America show introducing her 2012 Animal League Calendar to raise money for her animal charity and promote pet adoption. Howard took all the photos of Beth with adoptable pets in the $20 calendar. You’ve got to hand it to Beth – she turned her wealthy husband into a big softie for animals and now he’s generous with his time and money for her charity.

MALE PENGUINS CAN BE DEVIOUS TOO

Video via: The Daily What

Male penguins can be just as sneaky as male humans. (Are you reading this, Ashton and Arnold?) The difference is they’re definitely cuter while they’re misbehaving.

NIKE THINKS MICHAEL VICK’S CRIMES ARE NO BIG DEAL- THEY HIRED HIM AGAIN

What’s WRONG with these Nike people? The company just resigned animal torturer Michael Vick as their spokesperson. He’ll design a line of shoes for them and earn millions of dollars. Back in 2007, Nike dumped Vick after he was convicted of participating in a dogfighting ring and animal cruelty. Now the Nike rep says “Michael acknowledges his past mistakes?” Is THAT all it takes? What Nike may not know is that SOME CRIMES ARE UNFORGIVABLE. Should child molesters, rapists, wife beaters, etc, be given a pass if they “acknowledge” their crimes? Has Nike seen photos of the dogs he destroyed? We consumers who love our pets never want to see Michael Vick’s face again. We can live with Tiger Woods’ bad behavior, but Michael Vick just oozes evil. Nike will never look the same to us.

THIS IS THE MAN KATY PERRY MARRIED

We never had much of a weakness for Russell Brand, but we were horrified by revelations he made in a recent interview. According to Radaronline, back when Brand, now 36, was addicted to crack and heroin he admits he had “destructive tendencies” and was “fixated on dead animals.” When he performed onstage he’d bring a heap of dead rats or birds and says he’d “smash them up with a hammer and throw them to the audience. He’d say “Why are you disgusted? They’re dead already!” He says he was trying to “wake people up” by shocking them. It’s a horrifying mental picture that Brand clearly would be better off not mentioning. Drugs are no excuse.

Let’s take a break from Lindsay and Cairo and enjoy the antics of an adorable Boxer. Not the kind that wears gloves. This Boxer is trying desperately hard to be brave while being stalked by a tin robot.

A RARE PAIR OF PLATYPUSES

After all that red carpet indulgence, it’s nice to cleanse the palate by appreciating cute animals without attitude. Our friend Stephen Saban at The WOW Report found this photo of something you don’t see very often – a pair of baby platypuses. These semi-aquatic creatures live in Australia and the look like an evolutionary cross between a reptile and a mammal. They’re covered with fur (in the 1800’s people wore platypus coats) but have web feet and a flat beak like a duck. And they growl! They’re celebrities in the animal kingdom.

WHO KNEW PENGUINS HAD SO MUCH ENERGY?

Video via The WOW Report
We used to dream of having a pet penguin until we met a penguin handler from San Francisco who told us the birds can be ornery – every morning when he walked into their cage they ran over and pecked him on the knees. But they ARE adorable and this young and irrepressible bird creates a perfect heavy metal mashup

ALEC BALDWIN HAS COME A LONG WAY SINCE THE “HORSE INCIDENT”

Alec Baldwin doesn’t look at all bothered by the fact that this equestrian act from the Big Apple Circus appeared on the Letterman show with him. When he was still married to his animal activist wife Kim Basinger, he didn’t think animals should be used for entertainment and he testified to the city council that the use of carriage horses in the park should be banned. Nowadays, he appears a lot more tolerant.

TAYLOR LAUTNER AND FRIEND: TOO CUTE FOR WORDS

Our skillful comrade in blogging, Stephen Saban of The WOW Report, noted an uncanny resemblance between this sweet fuzzy squinty animal (what exactly IS this? A young Llama?) and “Twilight” hottie Taylor Lautner. Do you agree?
