FAVORITE PHOTOS FROM VIDEO MUSIC AWARDS

The theme for the VMA’s this year seemed to be “how naked can you get” and we saw more skin than EVER before. Plus more fakery in the way of hair, nails, and eyelashes. Our favorite look belonged to Selena Gomez – her red gown was sexy without being lewd, and she simply looked beautiful-and appropriate.
We also loved this photo of Sean Combs and Taylor Swift and wonder who’s idea it was. Did Sean approach Taylor with his award or did Taylor (who got too many awards to carry) ask Sean for the photo? It COULD have been the photographer’s idea…either way, they are an interesting and unexpected combo…

IS ALICIA KEYS THE FIRST WOMAN TO WALK A RED CARPET WEARING NO MAKE-UP?

Just a few weeks ago Alicia Keys vowed to stop wearing make-up in public because she was spending too much time fretting about her looks. And she braved the red carpet at the VMA’s with her natural face! We had almost forgotten how attractive a clean face can be! It’s a great lesson for young girls who’ve been heavily influenced by the Kardashians and other female celebrities who seem to be 99% fake. Tons of makeup and shading, plastic surgery, hair extensions, eyelash extensions – it’s become the norm. Even in broad daylight on the beach or at the gym! THANK YOU Alicia for not being a common slave to cosmetics!

Best Dressed Fashion Jaden Smith Video Music Awards

WHY JADEN SMITH GETS OUR VOTE FOR BEST DRESSED AT VMA’S

Yep, we think Jaden Smith left just about everyone, especially Kanye West who considers himself a “fashion genius,” IN THE DUST last night at the awards. Let us remind you that the Video Awards are all about new music, new fashion, and cool up-and coming young entertainers. Yet many female guests were trussed up in low cut hyper-sexualized gowns with trains, more appropriate for the Adult Film Awards or a Las Vegas review. They looked more like porn stars than rock stars. Jaden Smith is only 18 and already shows amazing fashion presence. He’s fearless and experimental – doesn’t hesitate to try new things like man skirts. His clothes are playful, young and fun. It’s not often a GUY is BEST DRESSED at any event!

Kanye West Video Music Awards

KANYE WEST IS A BORE

When the VMA’s agreed to give Kanye West FOUR MINUTES of airtime during the live show to do WHATEVER HE WANTED TO DO, they were undoubtedly hoping for something unexpected and outrageous. Dressed in a pajama-like outfit, humorless Kanye slowly droned on and on and on… about nothing in particular. He rambled about a few headlines, a few friends in the audience. He obviously thinks the audience is FASCINATED by his every move so he doesn’t have to make an effort. When the bored crowd started chanting for “the video,” he acquiesced and introduced his video featuring an extraordinary female dancer and unmemorable music. What he lacks in innovation, Kanye more than makes up for with misplaced confidence.

Butts Nicki Minaj Video Music Awards

HOW DOES NICKI MINAJ FIT HER BUTT INTO A THEATER SEAT?

We simply cannot believe the back view of Nicki Minaj’s VMA gown. Everything she wears that is not spandex must be custom made because her bottom is so gigantic. Certainly her outrageous shape is a challenge to designers and Nicki must be uncomfortable squeezing herself into an ordinary theater seat.

Fashion Miley Cyrus Video Music Awards

MILEY CYRUS AT VMA’S: SHE EMBARRASSED HERSELF TRYING SO HARD TO BE “COOL”

If we never had to look at Miley Cyrus’s tongue again, the world would be a better place. Her revolting turn as host of the Video Music Awards will be hard to live down. Colorful costumes are no substitute for clever banter. Miley was a bore. Her appearance was all about ME, ME, ME! She flaunted her body in ridiculously skimpy but not particularly clever outfits. (Makes one appreciate Lady Gaga’s imagination) Miley continuously patted herself on the back and tried to appear tough by talking about drugs and cursing like a rapper, but her raspy voice is the only tough thing about her. Her cringe-worthy pre-recorded segments were as dull as her live comments. It was an evening of desperation for Miley and embarrassment for her family.

Fashion Kanye West Kim Kardashian Video Music Awards

KANYE WEST LOOKS WAY MORE COMFORTABLE THAN HIS WIFE AT THE VMA’S

We had to laugh when we saw how Kanye West and Kim Kardashian looked when they arrived at the Video Awards show. Kanye, who calls the fashion shots for both of them, dressed himself in a greige oversize sweater, sweatpants, and casual sneakers. No chance of Kim being that comfortable. He trussed up pregnant Kim in a cargo inspired evening gown with a plunging neckline and stiletto heels. Both maintained expressionless faces in front of the cameras.

Chris Brown Jay Z Rihanna Video Music Awards

HEY JAY-Z, WE DIDN’T CLAP FOR CHRIS BROWN AT THE VMA’S EITHER!

We LOVE Jay-Z for not forgetting what Chris Brown did to Rihanna and refusing to clap for Chris’s dancing performance on the VMA’s. Granted, Chris IS an amazing dancer and his number was spectacular, but Jay-Z discovered Rihanna and is very close to her. Despite his talent, Chris continues to reveal his flawed personality and ignorant attitude toward gays and women. He has never convinced anyone that he truly regretted beating up Rihanna and flaunts his arrogance. We applaud Jay-Z’s loyalty to Rihanna.

VMA HOST RUSSELL BRAND: LOATHSOME, OR NOT SO BAD?

Russell Brand’s hosting of the VMA’s has been the subject of considerable conversation. Except for his appearance in the movie “Forgetting Sarah Marshall,” few Americans know who the British comic is. The puzzled audience kept asking each other “Who IS this guy?” And a lot of his jokes fell flat- he mocked the Jonas brothers “purity” rings and called our president a “retarded cowboy.” (Wasn’t the word “retarded” just banned in the US?) He urged everyone to vote for Obama and managed to turn off EVEN the people who agreed with him! Despite his lame attempts to be hip and timely, Russell did walk away far more famous than he was before, so it may pay off for him.
