WOODY ALLEN’S OLD GIRLFRIEND DIANE KEATON DOESN’T MIND ACCEPTING HIS GOLDEN GLOBES AWARD

Sunday’s Golden Globes show will go on without the presence of Woody Allen, who is being honored with the Cecil B DeMille lifetime achievement award. The Hollywood Foreign Press Association decided to give it to Woody even though he won’t be picking it up in person. Woody dislikes award shows (he didn’t even accept his four Oscars in person) and intended to turn down the award altogether but was persuaded that it might have a negative affect on his excellent movie “Blue Jasmine.” “Annie Hall” star Diane Keaton (above) agreed to accept for Woody and that made the HFPA happy. Woody admits he avoids reading any and all comments about his films and himself. He told the LA Times “I realized the less preoccupied you are with yourself, the better you do.”

MOST UNEXPECTED MOMENT AT THE GOLDEN GLOBES: JODIE FOSTER CAME OUT!

Cheers to Jodie foster! For YEARS she has been sensitive about her personal life, although it was common knowledge in Hollywood that she was gay and nobody cared. She was admired for her long and stellar career and intelligence. We always thought she felt uncomfortable with her “secret.” Two of her closest actor friends, Robert Downey Jr, and Mel Gibson, were with her at The Golden Globes and we have a feeling they encouraged her to open up about the fact that she’s gay now that she has turned 50. For the first time she acknowledged her “ex partner in love and heroic co-parent “ Cydney Bernard. It WAS a surprise and a nice moment – especially with her two sons looking on with approval.

ELLE MACPHERSON: IS IT POSSIBLE TO LOOK GOOD AND HAVE FUN, TOO?

Having seen the myriad of flouncy form fitting mermaid dresses on the Golden Globes red carpet, we find ourselves puzzled in many ways. Besides wondering how Angelina managed to arrive without wrinkling her dress, we cannot figure out how Elle Macpherson (who looks dazzling) and many others similarly attired, managed to actually SIT DOWN for the dinner and show. How many seats did they take up? Where did they stuff their long trains? How did they manage to attend the crowded parties with those extended trains? Also, few people realize that the temperature in the Beverly Hilton is adjusted low so that men in tuxedos don’t get too hot. (The banquet manager told us.) That means the women in strapless dresses are FREEZING. Looking pretty is NOT easy.

It’s been awhile since we’ve seen Alexis Arquette, who attended the W Magazine tribute to the Golden Globes party. Alexis’s sister Rosanna had been filming a documentary about her brother’s sex change a few years ago, but Alexis opted not to go all the way with the surgery and we’re not sure what happened to the film. Alexis continues to act and appeared on “Californication” not long ago.

GOLDEN GLOBES HOST RICKY GERVAIS: THANK GOD AT YOUR OWN RISK

Ricky Gervais, the rascal who made last year’s Golden Globes watchable, is returning this weekend and he explained some of his wisecracks in Esquire. Ricky closed the show saying “Thank you to God that I’m an atheist!” He clarified that it wasn’t just a matter of declaring his own beliefs, but of pointing out how narcissistic celebrities are in the spotlight. He was criticizing all those people who thank God because they won an award. Ricky figures that considering all the famine and wars going on in the world that it’s incredibly arrogant and egocentric for winners to think God went out of the way to help THEM. If indeed God exists, he has more important things to do. Let’s hope the God-thankers take the HINT. We’re looking forward to the 2012 Globes.

DELICATE EGOS BEWARE: RICKY GERVAIS MAY BE HOSTING THE GOLDEN GLOBES AGAIN!

We’re not at all surprised to learn that insult comic Ricky Gervais is quite probably going to host the Golden Globes again this year. Last year he teased celebrities by commenting on their trips to rehab and brought up the worst movies they ever made. Some delicate celebrity egos were bruised, but viewers loved it and the ratings went through the roof. The Hollywood Foreign Press didn’t escape Ricky’s sarcasm and they don’t want him back. But NBC loved all the publicity Ricky got the show and the show producers agree that he is an asset, so they DO want him back. As Ricky says “I was insulting the most privileged people on the planet – it wasn’t a roomful of wounded soldiers!” If Hollywood was offended – so what? He’s ready to do it again – with even more gusto.

RICKY GERVAIS WAS A NEW WAVE POP STAR

Little did we know that the much talked about Golden Globes host Ricky Gervais had an interesting past! He doesn’t talk about it much, but Ricky was the lead singer in a new wave pop duo from the 80’s called Seona Dancing. Ricky and a school friend, Bill Macrae, got together in 1982 and were signed by London Records. They released two singles and we found this video at The Huffington Post. Ricky, above right, looks HOT!

That weird TV moment was turned into an amusing video. Natalie’s unfortunate laugh has in no way affected her career negatively – this weekend her movie “No Strings Attached” was #1.

Angelina Jolie usually gets talked about for the things she does, but regarding the Golden Globes, she’s now being talked about for what she DIDN’T do. She didn’t wear visible jewelry. The jewelry industry was bitterly disappointed by the shortage of ostentatious chunky diamond necklaces and earrings at the event. And they were particularly upset by Angelina’s simple, toned down look of long sleeves and no glitzy accessories. Industry insiders are terrified that it will catch on and it’s bad for business. Jewelers really depend on red carpet exposure to stimulate sales.

RICKY GERVAIS WON’T BE BACK TO HOST THE GOLDEN GLOBES, BUT WAS IT WORTH IT?

Has Ricky Gervais forever changed the job of Award Show Host? His insult humor got the celebrities at the Golden Globes riled up and the Hollywood Foreign Press seething, but it seems the TV audience got a kick out of it. Cameras caught actors wincing and looking shocked or bursting out with embarrassed laughter in the show audience. Ricky WAS funny when he introduced A-list actors by listing the worst movies they ever made. And calling Bruce Willis “Ashton Kutcher’s father” WAS amusing. Poking fun at pompous pampered stars IS delicious and it’s fun to see their reactions. When Ricky insulted the president of the HFPA by saying he just had to “help him off the toilet and pop his teeth in” he must have known he wouldn’t be invited back- either to host or accept an award. How did YOU like Ricky as the insult host?
