WHAT’S HOLLYWOOD FIXER RAY DONOVAN DOING IN NEW YORK?

Showtime likes Liev Schreiber so much that they moved his series from Los Angeles to New York after six successful seasons. Liev was miserable because he had so little time to spend with his children, who live in New York with their mother. He and his longtime partner Naomi Watts split up amicably last year after 11 years together. Naomi is currently dating Billy Crudup. Ray Donovan writers toiled to create a plausible reason for their main character to move to New York. We wonder how the rest of the cast and crew were affected by the move…

JUST ANOTHER DAY ON THE STREETS OF NEW YORK

Something peculiar happened in the Meatpacking District of New York today. Our photographer couldn’t figure out WHY, but people (actors we assume) were seen sitting on toilets with their pants down on the middle of a busy sidewalk. The people were dressed as taxi drivers, police officers, students, and shoppers, and since it was the middle of the afternoon, passers-by were very curious. Does anyone out there know what this is all about?

ALEC BALDWIN: DON’T GIVE UP – GET A GRIP!

We confess we are torn when it comes to Alec Baldwin. As a performer (such as in “Blue Jasmine”) he can be perfectly delightful. His off-camera antics provide fodder for endless gossip stories because he doesn’t know when to shut up. THAT we love. But then there’s his obnoxious elitist side. He’s on the cover of New York magazine boo-hooing about his lack of privacy. He whines dramatically that he’s even willing to give up show business and move away from New York if necessary for the “safety and peace of mind of his family.” But would he and his family really be happy if he retired and moved to the suburbs? Let’s face it, ALL of Alec’s problems stem from his lack of self- control – his temper. THAT will follow him everywhere.

MEG RYAN HAS THE NEW YORK SENSIBILITY

One thing about Meg Ryan – she doesn’t throw away her money on trendy designer clothes. She wears the same pair of sensible shoes almost every day – no $1200 Louboutins for her. But everything she wears is totally hip, cool, and functional, and top quality. She has a very downtown sensibility. No doubt that’s one of the reasons she left Brentwood for Manhattan. Her little girl Daisy seems to be thriving in the big city too.

DAVID BOWIE HAILS HIS OWN CABS

All we know is, we can never get enough of David Bowie. He seems so reclusive and it’s always a treat to see him. He’s sold around 140 million records, but hasn’t performed live since 2006. Bowie, 65, just seems to live quietly with his wife Iman and their 12 year old daughter Alexandria – only occasionally venturing out for a museum or charity event. Today he was “Under Pressure” to grab a cab at rush hour in New York, and he DID manage to do so.

JUDE LAW SHOULD BE USED TO INTRUSIVE PAPARAZZI BY NOW

Jude Law is in New York filming “The Bitter Pill” and he demonstrated to his visiting kids Rudy and Iris how to hail a taxi. They spent the afternoon shopping the stores and street vendors in Soho and Jude was all smiles until he spotted photographers. At one point, he left the kids and walked over and had a few harsh words for the paparazzi. Then the family jumped into a cab and left.

MELISSA GORGA: GUIDO’S DREAM GIRL GOES TO THE BIG CITY

Don’t tell her sister-in-law Teresa, but “Real Housewives of New Jersey” star Melissa Gorga is getting an awful lot of attention on the street in New York – from passers-by and from photographers. And she doesn’t seem to mind at all. She just walked out of a building where she may or may not have had a meeting about her singing career. Either way, she looks hot in her polka dot dress and black wrap coat.

ANDY WARHOL STATUE IN NEW YORK: IT’S ABOUT TIME

If anybody deserves a statue in New York, it’s Andy Warhol. After all, he’s probably the most important American artist of the 20th century. The city had a life size figure of Andy installed near his factory studio in Union Square and not far from his favorite hang-out Max’s Kansas City. We’re not sure why the artist, Rob Pruitt, chose a chrome finish, but we love the fact that Andy is wearing his camera and holding a full shopping bag. Andy ALWAYS had a shopping bag – he stopped at all the thrift shops on his way to work and collected whatever tickled his fancy.

JENNIFER ANISTON IS SHOPPING FOR A SWANKY NEW YORK PENTHOUSE

Now that Jennifer Aniston has her superfabulous Architectural Digest house completed in Los Angeles, she has turned her attention to New York. Like Barbra Streisand, Jen loves buying and re-doing new properties for herself. (Her pal Courteney Cox flips houses) According to the New York Post’s Jennifer Gould Keil, Jennifer took a long look at an 8.75 million dollar penthouse in the Village. Four years ago the place was priced at 14.5 million and it’s back on the market. It’s a 5 bedroom 4 bath four level penthouse with a keyed elevator and stairs. 17 ft ceilings, a real fireplace and a landscaped roof garden add to the charm. Jennifer’s thinking it over.
