Meg Ryan

CAN MEG RYAN BRING BACK THE ROM-COM?

Meg Ryan is officially back! After an 8 year hiatus from Hollywood, Meg is returning to the big screen this November with David Duchovny in What Happens Later, which she also co-wrote and directed. We’ve been told that’s only the beginning of Meg’s return to filming. Behind closed doors she’s plotting to return to the movies that made her one of America’s sweethearts. She’d like to revisit some of her classic characters from Sleepless in Seattle, When Harry Met Sally and You’ve Got Mail. Those rom-coms were the products of the late great Nora Ephron, so it’s a little complicated for Meg. She’ll have to secure the rights to those characters and develop scripts worthy of Nora’s signature style. Meg’s not giving up though, and her costars and pals, Tom Hanks and Billy Crystal, are open to revisiting those characters if the scripts are up to snuff.

TOM CRUISE: WOMEN ARE EXPENDABLE

Funny how Tom Cruise absolutely INSISTED that all the guys- including his Top Gun rival Val Kilmer -appear in This new Top Gun Maverick, 34 years after the original. All this in spite of the fact that Val has been struggling with cancer for years and can barely speak. It will be interesting to see how his character is portrayed. Of course Tom had NO interest in bringing back his female costar and love interest in the original, Kelly McGillis. Meg Ryan was the other female in the original and she was not invited back either. Why were ONLY the females eliminated? Not even a cameo?… Tom’s new love interest is Jennifer Connolly, 13 years younger than Kelly.

MEG RYAN: WHO NEEDS ACTING WHEN YOU CAN FLIP?

MOVE OVER Tarek El Moussa (from HGTV) because Meg Ryan is offering some major competition when it comes to house flipping! She’s been flipping for quite awhile, but Meg’s recent flip is worth noting. During the pandemic in Feb 2020, the When Harry Met Sally star bought a home in Montecito for $5.05 million. She moved there and started work on the house right away – that included adding walls of glass. The 4200 sq ft house on 1.5 acres has 3 bedrooms and 3 baths. 18 months later she sold the house for $13.25 million! (Remember, Tarek is thrilled when a flip earns him $100,000 on Flip or ) The pandemic did not slow Meg down! She already invested the money into another Montecito home for $9.5 million and she’s hard at work on it. Who needs acting?

MEG RYAN: TO FLIP OR NOT TO FLIP?

Meg Ryan wanted her last split with John Mellencamp in November to be absolutely final, so in February she left New York and bought a house in Montecito, California, not far from Prince Harry and Meghan. Like Cameron Diaz, Meg has pretty much dropped out of Hollywood and she’s concentrating on flipping properties like Diane Keaton. She paid over five million for her new 4000 sq ft “farmhouse” because she “fell in love with the view.” She decided it’s also a nice place to isolate during the pandemic. Whether she will re-do the place and sell it, or hang around awhile, remains to be seen…

GEOGRAPHY IS WHAT BROKE UP MEG RYAN AND JOHN MELLENCAMP

Meg Ryan looks like she’s making the best of being single in New York. She and John Mellencamp, 68, just split up for the second time after being engaged for a year. John has implied that Meg wants to get married, but for him, three marriages is enough. We think he gave her the engagement ring to keep her happy for awhile, but never actually intended to wed. Fact is, John really doesn’t want to live in New York where Meg resides. He TRIED to like New York, but he admits he doesn’t want to leave Indiana. Does he realize what a good catch Meg is? She even put up with John’s chainsmoking…

MEG RYAN HAS A SECRET

Meg Ryan may LOOK like she’s turned off by John Mellencamp’s chainsmoking in this photo, but apparently she is NOT. They’ve been together off and on for over seven years and since last November, officially engaged. In all the photos we’ve seen of them together, he is very often smoking. How does she tolerate all that that nicotine? We’ve heard that Meg is a secret smoker herself, but is careful NOT to be photographed.

JACK QUAID: ROMANTIC COMEDIES RUN IN THE FAMILY

Jack Quaid, 27, definitely inherited his mother Meg Ryan’s smile, and that won’t do him any harm in his film career. The NYU grad got his first break in The Hunger Games in 2012, and now he’s starring in a romantic comedy, Plus One, at the Tribeca Film Festival. (It got decent reviews and was described as “well lit,” which means it’s not dreary and dark like so many films lately.) The story’s about platonic friends who agree to be each other’s “plus ones” during a summer full of weddings. Of course his mom Meg is the undisputed queen of romantic comedies, so Jack has a lot to live up to. Jack took his girlfriend of two years, actress Lizzy McGroder, to the premier.

MEG RYAN AND BILLY CRYSTAL CLAIM TO BE FRIENDS

Love this photo of Meg Ryan and Billy Crystal at the 2019 TCM Classic Film Festival opening night gala in Hollywood. Can you believe it? It’s been THIRTY years since When Harry Met Sally was released! If you remember, this film posed the question: “Can men and women really be friends?” Our answer would be yes- if the man is gay! What’s YOUR opinion?

MEG RYAN IS GOING BACK TO TV

We haven’t seen Meg Ryan onscreen for some time, and that’s because she is now aiming for a career in directing and producing. Meg has been pitching movie and series ideas to studios and one seems to be paying off. SNL’s Lorne Michaels loves her original idea for a series called The Obsolescents and he’s working with her developing it as an NBC mystery/comedy series. The Sleepless in Seattle star will produce, contribute writing, and maybe star. If she appears on the show, it’ll be Meg’s first TV series since As the World Turns in the early 80’s.

JOHN AND MEG: WHO NEEDS MARRIAGE?

John Mellencamp, 66, and Meg Ryan, 56, braved a few sprinkles of rain as they strolled arm in arm in Soho today. After a number of bust-ups through the years (during one split John hooked up with Christie Brinkley) John and Meg have both made concessions. She puts up with his smoking and he spends more time in New York. In March, rumors that they were getting married spread when Meg was seen at John’s South Carolina beachfront house prettying the place up. It was NOT wedding preparations, Meg just loves to re-do homes, and John’s place really needed attention. Why WOULD they get married?
