Ironically, the special TV announcements started before the last half hour of Trump’s Celebrity Apprentice on the east coast, so no one knows who got fired. After Trump’s arrogant demand for the president’s birth certificate – this turn of events makes it evident that the president did, indeed, have more important things on his mind!

Ok Rick, read the article you linked and still disagree. People are screaming racism because it’s easy and quickly makes the person look bad. I don’t care about color, if he got into Harvard or Columbia by questionable means then it should be addressed. It has nothing to do with race, it has to do with integrity. Did he buy his way in? Did he know people? This is not an issue of color, this is an issue of right and wrong. I have no idea if he was a good student or not. Trump being labeled a racist has nothing to do with Obama’s birth certificate! The racist label was in response to Trump’s charge that Obama’s grades weren’t good enough to get him into Harvard, and the implication that Obama was a pity admission under affirmative action.

Jules, there is no sport in ‘playing the race card’ as you so charmingly put it. Obama was straight forward about possibly benefiting from affirmative action. It’s the making of an ISSUE out of it that speaks volumes. It’s insidious in it’s back handed sneakiness. The same applies to demanding his birth certificate. No president has ever been asked to do that, until – DRUM ROLL – an African American was elected. Coincidence? I think not.
Rick–all presidents since I’ve been alive have provided their birth certificates and college records, including Bush, who was a C student and still released his anyway. What is the big deal? It makes no sense to be offended by this. Most feel that their future constituents are entitled to some very basic info about them. John McCain had to provide his birth cert. before the election so it could be determined if he was eligible because liberals sued. Obama is not being treated differently…better in most cases.
The birth certificate issue is my personal opinion. I only reached that conclusion because of the other efforts to denigrate Obama based on issues related to or because of his race, in this case specifically Trump’s pairing of allegations with insinuations. I wouldn’t say Obama’s been treated better. Seven other presidents, at the least, never proved they were US Citizens, and nothing like what Obama has endured occurred. In contrast, George W Bush’s military records which mysteriously disappeared and never recovered after he declared his intention to run for president were never persued. BTW, I’m a registered Independent and am wary of both the liberal and conservative extremes.

Rick, I am a social liberal/fiscal conservative so I don’t really fit into a neat box either. I feel that Obama is consistently protected by the press and treated with kid gloves because no one wants to be accused of being a racist. It is starting to seem that the entire democrat platform is ‘You’re A Racist’ and that drowns out any serious policy discussions. I think it is dangerous when people are not allowed to discuss an issue on its merits without character assassination. Also, if another black politician that was previously well known to the American people had run for Prez, the birth cert. would not have been an issue. Obama lived in 3 different countries in his youth and has gone by 2 different names, so therefore it was a legit question to be asked and he could have easily solved it in 2008. We can agree to disagree, and thank you for your civility. If I see something truly racist happen, believe me, I will be the first to say it.

I don’t recall Trump ever asking Reagan, both Bushes and Clinton while in office to show their birth certificates or college transcripts. Releasing those documents was the absolute norm before Obama. It is simply not true to state otherwise. Obama is the most powerful man in the entire WORLD. There is no white man that is more powerful than he is right now. What has held him back? What is he going through that is so terrible? Did racism keep him down, like being Prez of the US is some second rate job? What else could he possibly achieve in his life? Everyone gets criticized no matter who you are, and he is fair game like every other Prez has been. While there is racism for sure, I believe most are NOT racist. Some people, including myself, love people of all races and religions and I find it sincerely offensive to be called racist because I expect info about someone in such a powerful position in this country.
