ELIZABETH TAYLOR WAS A GREAT MOVIE STAR, NOT A GREAT PERSON

We’ve had it up to HERE with the tributes to Elizabeth Taylor. Let’s get real about Liz. Sorry, but she simply wasn’t worthy of all that admiration. She had a pretty face but other positive qualities were rare and far between. When she was a teenager Liz started stealing other women’s husbands. (We still admire Debbie Reynolds for forgiving her.) The acquisitive actress married seven men and finagled as many diamonds out of them as she could manage. And bragged about it. She loved her pets but never bothered to house break them – they messed her carpets – and OTHER people had to clean up. She had health problems but casually checked into a hospital whenever she wanted a rest. Of course her health would have been much better if she had controlled her urges to overeat, drink, smoke, and take drugs – and she never exercised a day in her life. Self-control was not Elizabeth’s strong factor. In 1983, she admitted to being hooked on painkillers and sleeping pills for 35 years. While filming, she expected to find a “gift” in her dressing room every morning or she might not be in the mood to work. We mean jewelry, not flowers. She kept people waiting for hours with no apology. Liz expected her friend Michael Jackson to shower her with diamonds and jewelry stores are still suing his estate for money he owed for her gifts. Granted, she WAS a dear friend to Rock Hudson when he needed one, but her involvement with AIDS charities brought her a grand lifestyle and prestige – private jets and five star hotel suites around the world for her and her entourage, incredible gifts, paid for by the charity. Style icon? Only if you like turbans and caftans. When Edith Head stopped dressing her, she lost her glamour. Let’s celebrate her film career- not her private life.

  1. EAT IT AND WEEP YOU SORRY NOBODY JANET:

    Most of Elizabeth Taylor’s massive fortune will go to the two AIDS charities with whom she was most famously associated.

    Screen queen Elizabeth Taylor has left behind a fortune worth at least $600 million, much of which is expected to go to the AIDS charities she championed for decades. Her famous jewelry collection, valued at an eye-popping $150 million in 2002, is likely to be auctioned off with the bulk of the proceeds going to the Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation and amfAR, the AIDS charity she helped found in 1985, according to WFLD/Fox TV Chicago. “From what I understand, she seems to have been very wise about her investments,” said a financial planner who has worked with other Hollywood A-listers. At the time of her 1994 divorce from her last husband, Larry Fortensky, Taylor’s net worth was estimated at $608.4 million. That figure could now be well in excess of $1 billion. During the 1990s, Taylor reportedly earned about $2 per second, or about $63 million per year. Her famed perfume, White Diamonds, earned more than $70 million last year, according to reports.

  2. FunMe, as if a multitude of ‘ is expected’ ‘is likely’ and ‘reportely’s to shore up your argument is worth a flip? What Janet stated are well known FACTS, and don’t forget that unlike you, she respects YOUR right to free speech. Now, do us all a favor and keep your promise not to comment anymore.

  3. It’s her money and she can choose but amazing that the fortune going to AIDS research, if true, will only contribute to enabling the spreaders of the disease and promoting the gay lifestyle.

  4. Thank you Janet! I remember my mother buying all the magazines about Elizabeth stealing Eddie from Debbie, and it was bigger than Brad/Jennifer/Angelina. At least Angelina wasn’t Jennifer’s best friend. Liz was a fairly good actress and she was truly a ‘movie star’…and she is one the last ones to go, so Hollywood is playing it up. She did have a great sense of humor, and I think that was her saving grace.

  5. There is difference between “facts” and opinions?

  6. Wow Janet, you sure jerked the chain on a lot of judgemental, precious types with this one.
    Some people don’t want to hear the truth about their icons.
    People need to realize she was public domain in life, and in death. That was the price she paid for her fame.
    And she was paid very well for it.
    Good work, Lady Charlton.
    p.s., this is a gossip site folks, get over yourselves, pour another glass of red, post something funny and entertaining for us.

  7. Let’s see, why doesn’t everyone write every time they fucked their mother,father,sister,cousin,uncle,aunt,brother’s wife,friend, lover, husband

    Write about having stoled, cheated, tattled on.
    Write about the time your mother, father, sister, brother beat you
    Write about about the time you were married ,divorced, beaten on shitted on

    Pissed on yourself shatted on yourself because it was funny, or sick. Everytime you were humilated

    How hard you work your accomplishments and failures.
    Your travels or homely life.
    Give that to your love one before dying and tell them to read that while your laying dead so all your friends, family, neighbors, children, dogs and cat to know about you too.

  8. go away … I decided to come here to piss you off.

    Now STFU Janet and stop commenting on your own blog. LOSER!

  9. Elizabeth was used by all the men in her life. Nicky Hilton greatly mistreated her; Michael Wilding could not support his family so she had to sell her soul to MGM to buy a house for them; She helped finance Around the World in 80 Days for Mike Todd; Eddie Fisher took advantage of her widow hood. He should have understood her need for a shoulder to cry on instead of taking advantage of her grief; Burton used her for publicity he couldn’t get by his acting and dumped her when she turned 40. He publicly humiliated her by chasing younger women and spilling secrets of his private life with her; She and Richard loved each other but not enuf to give up alcohol. She paid for Warner to get a senate seat; Fortensky treated her badly to say the least and used her for money even after they divoriced. I read that she was abused as a child by a family member. She also didn’t take care of her health I agree. The only person who didn’t use her was Michael Jackson. She didn’t have to pay anything for his friendship. Maybe that is why she chose to be buried near him. I am glad she made money from her perfume and received the Humanitarian Award at the Oscars. She was the most beautiful woman in the world.

  10. Diandra, I agree with everything you said except one: she had her “spot” picked out apparently and waiting for her for quite some time and it’s right above her parents which I’m sure she paid to bury right where they are and bought her own place at the same time to assure it would be availible when the time came. That Michael Jackson happened to be nearby, either was a coincidence, or HIS buying of a plot to be near HERS. I know all he would have had to do was ask her and she’d tell him where her spot would be when the time came. I, however, don’t believe ANY of that happened. He is buried in a famous graveyard where most of Hollywood’s famous wind up. It is a city unto it’self now with all the H’royalty now rotting away there, both below and above ground. What a waste of a nice park in prime real estate.

  11. By the way, don’t almost ALL women when getting married, get a ring of some sort? Usually there is a diamond if possible. Eliabeth couldn’t help it if the men she married all had deep pockets and wanted to adorn her with giant rocks, and she certainly wasn’t allergic to them. If OUR men could afford those, i’m sure we’d ALL be dragging one hand nearer the ground. Men buy what they can afford, or go into debt over it, but that’s not the woman’s fault. SHE didn’t MAKE him do ANYTHING. It all comes down to choice and what someone can afford. I’m happy she got beautiful jewelry given to her. She certainly paid for it in many many hurtful ways as Diandra has so simply reminded us. Viva la Liz I say! And glad she got to have at least some great times and men and baubles and live a good long live surrounded by love and admiration. I look forward to the movie run on her, it should be a great reminder of how good an actress she really WAS and maybe introduce her to a generation who may not already know her work.

  12. Amazing. I’ve always thought it tacky and classless to speak ill of the dead. What have you done for Aids research Janet?

  13. Hey there “Jinky” aka “carole raphaelle davis”, I just wanted to ask a facetious question of you….How many trees do you suppose are cut down in order to print your precious literary works, bashing people for not being perfect, like yourself? Or are your articles printed on some special, ecologically friendly material that I am not aware of? Trees are overrated right? Just wonderin’

    Elizabeth may not have been perfect but at least the money that she left behind from the so-called “blood diamonds”, will go to a good cause.

    The old saying goes something like this…those who live in glass houses should not throw stones.

  14. Just because someone died does not make them a good person all of a sudden…. so get over it.

    Janet is entitled to her opinion. You people need to get a life. Janet is awesome and can do no wrong!

  15. Nothing like ‘trash talking’ a woman after she has died. Disgusting post Janet.

  16. Oh Pippa, you love it otherwise you wouldn’t be here.
    Don’t be so boring.

  17. She was 79 and abused her body for years…and she lived to almost 80…! Elizabeth admitted that she was “hedonistic” …that was her chosen word. There wasnt much she could do about it. I understand that… hey she LIVED her life..! RIP Elizabeth

  18. Completely agree with you Janet. It’s about time someone spoke the truth.

  19. Janet:

    That is the BEST PICTURE IN THE WORLD of Liz! That should be her OFFICIAL picture FOREVER AND EVER!

    WHAT IS THAT THING ON HER HEAD?

    FASHION ICON OUR ARSES!

    B.

  20. It seems that it has always been determined that Richard Burton was the one of the great loves of Elizabeth’s life when you include Mike Todd. Elizabeth had only been married to Mike Todd for 13 months before his death in that plane crash. As far as Burton is concerned, their relationship may have started out as pure passion, but there was an undeniable bond between these two. As much as a lot of us love an old fashioned love story for all times, The Taylor/Burton love was Not to be. While these two former spouses were on Broadway performing in “Private Lives” Richard married Sally Hay. He had to have known this would drive Elizabeth over the edge. Richard is always written as the great love of her life, but how could he be, when he married his 4th wife right under Elizabeth’s nose. How cruel could he have been to Elizabeth to marry someone while appearing with her in a play for all to see??
    Richard Burton may receive a lot of credit for the well publicized glamour that he contributed to the Taylor Burton Saga, but in the end he broke her heart before his death. There are now love letters that he wrote to her over the years, but how can you compare those love letters to him marrying his last wife right in front of Elizabeth for all the world to see. I think that Richard may have been the love that she Never got over, but had Mike Todd Not perished in that airplane crash,there might have never been a Richard Burton in the life of Elizabeth Taylor. We will Never know, but one thing that we do know is her final years were spent raising funds to help others, and that is an even better memory to be known for than how many times you she was married. In the end, she shared her heart with others!!

  21. This is an unbelievably heartless diatribe that isn’t warranted. Nowhere did I read that Elizabeth Taylor was a saint. Sure, her AIDS work was exemplary and she deserved all praise for that, but her character flaws were as obvious as the flaws in her jewelry were not. I never got the impression she thought of herself as deserving of what she had so much as lucky and determined to enjoy it all.

    When you’re at the end of your run, it’ll be interesting to see how many people have positive things—or anything at all—to say about you.

    Really disgusted.

  22. JANET YOU ARE SUPREME ONE OF THE FEW INSIDERS LEFT WHO TRULY TELLS IT LIKE IT IS OR WAS OR SHOULD BE. LIZ USED WEAK FEM MEN WHO NEEDED A CRUSH OF WHICH MADAM TALOR WAS ALWAYS THERE FOR A PRICE. SHE SMUGGLED MICHAEL JACKSON OUT OF THE COUNTRY BUT ONLY TO A PLACE WHERE HE COULD NOT BE EXTRADITED. WE NOW KNOW MICHAEL LIKE HER OTHER VICTIMS WERE EXPECTED TO PAY DEARLY FOR HER FRIENDSHIP. SHE SMUGGLED JEWLERY INTO THJE COUNRTY WITHOUT PAYING TAXES AND STAYED ABROAD TO AVOID PAYING HER TAXES HERE.SHE DRAINED MEN OF THEIR SELF RESPECT TALENTS AND VALUABLES AND THEN LEFT THEM BROKEN AND BROKE.THAT MANY HUSBANDS COULD HAVE MEANT THET IT MUST HAVE BEEN SOMETHING STRANGE ABOUT HER. SHE DIDN’T LEAVE MEN WHEN THEY FELL APART BUT WHEN SHE COULDN’T GET ANYTHING MORE OUT OF THEM .TRULY THE WORD BITCH APPLIES TO HER. MIKE TODD NEEDED HER TO GAIN POWER AND PRIVALGE IN HOLLYWOOD AND SHE NEEDED SOMEONE TO LOOT THE STORES OF BEVERLY HILLS FOR. I GUESS THE WEAK AND THE GREEDY MANAGE TO FIND EACH OTHER. THE PEARLY GATES HAVE ALREADY BEEN ROBBED BY MISS TAYLOR. I GUESS SHE WILL BE SENT DOWNSTAIRS TO THE UNAIR -CONDITIONED BARGAIN BASEMENT WHERE SHE TRULY BELONGS

  23. In our own way, we all have the ability to be just a little scandalous, and have walked on the wild side,the only difference is we as observers know how to stay in the background and look at others from afar. I am No more right than the next person when it comes to expressing my opinion, but if my opinion counted, I believe that Elizabeth Taylor got our attention in a way that No other Hollywood screen queen ever has. Disagree with her marriages, disagree with her antics, but the reason that Elizabeth has taken up more than 75 comments on this page, is because like Jackie and Diana she is No longer among us. We will Never find a reason to stop talking about Elizabeth, because in reality who else is worth talking about right now. Charlie Sheen has gone stir crazy. Chris Brown is the New O.J./Ike Turner. We may leave a comment, but are these 2 clowns worth talking about?? No and No. Elizabeth Taylor lived and what she did, whether we agree, Elizabeth did things on her own terms. She started out as a young child in the movies with a horse. She got married while a teenager, she then married an older man and had 2 sons with him. After divorcing him she married the man Oscar Winning Producer of Around the World in 80 Days. He was being honored at a dinner in New York, and the only reason that she was Not with him was because she had pneumonia. She had been married to Mike Todd for 13 months and was blissfully happy with their young daughter Liza. After losing Mike she grieved with Eddie Fisher who was a couple with his wife Debbie Reynolds who traveled together and were suppose to be great friends. After Debbie tossed out Eddie, what can you we say, “if she cheat with you, she will cheat on you” and that’s what happened with Eddie. Out the door. Richard Burton had the reputation of a ladies’ man, but everyone knew that he would Never leave his wife Sybil and their 2 daughters. So they thought. Directly after Elizabeth and Richard married, Sybil married a younger man Jordan Christopher, like where did he come from so soon?? Elizabeth and Richard played out their lives in public and in movies. Who could forget The VIPs and The Sandpipers, Night of the Iguana and oh so many movie that made The Burtons the # 1 Movie Star Couple in the World. We all know that Elizabeth had illnesses over the years, but I think the harder part is to grasp that she passed away quietly in the hospital. She had turned 79 on February the 27th, and I think that her leaving so quietly leaves a lot of the writers on these pages wanting to feel that we knew her in our own way. Like Jackie, and Princess Diana magazines and books have always been written about these women, and yes they were interesting with or without that “special” man walking behind them. These women got our attention. We believed some of what we read, and we ignored what we didn’t believe. Either way our own lives traveled the world because of these 3 women, and I do Not believe in our lifetime that there will ever be the kind of attention paid to 1 woman, like it was paid to these 3, Jackie, Diana and Dame Elizabeth Taylor.Just a fan of all 3 women and finally signing off on this topic. PEACE!!!

  24. There are much worse people/things to pick on in the world. Much, much, much worse.

    I’m glad you felt it justified to diminish her work with AIDS. Can you please list everything you’ve done for the cause. Myself, I volunteered for an AIDS hotline for two years and another two years volunteering at a hospice. What did you do, Janet?

    Thanks.

  25. P.S.

    Kate Middleton is a princess in waiting, but I believe that as William’s wife, she will hold her own without being pushed into someone that she has No intentions of becoming. I believe that she is well prepared to William’s wife without the world placing demands on her. After the wedding,I believe that she is going to be her husband’s wife, and yet be her own woman!!

  26. Michael, Christopher, Liza and Maria:

    It was Not my intention to over look Maria Burton who was the second daughter in the family!!!

  27. Leo, I agree she will be cussed and discussed for a long time.

    Elvis though is the #1 who will never ever be forgotten. Twice a year, for his birth and death, hundreds of thousands come from many countries to Graceland to participate in a week of remembrance. I can’t think of another singer/star/celeb/politician/ who still commands this attention, since 1977.

  28. @ Indy:
    I have to give you credit,
    You really know your stars. Somehow we seemed to have overlooked Elvis for the moment, but you are absolutely right The King Lives. In addition to all the visitors at Graceland, how many Elvis impersonators are out there, I have No clue, but let it be known there is No shame in the game when some unknown get those rhinestone outfits, those dark glasses and sideburns and try to work that Elvis magic. Again, thanks for the reminder!!

  29. @ Indy:

    How about some Elvis trivia?? How many Elvis songs, or movies of Elvis can we name right off?
    I’ll start with :
    The Wonder of You (favorite song)
    Viva Las Vegas (with Ann Margret)

  30. Elvis loved gospel, and His song “How great Thou are” is one of his great hymms.

  31. Leo, I live 14 miles from Graceland, so you can imagine what it’s like with many 1000’s from countries here, with at least a week of fabulous entertainment and trivia things, etc. for a week in January and a week in August. I think “Blue Hawaii” was his best. He was unspeakably handsome, generous, and the best voice ever. “I want you,I need you, I love you”. He’s smiling down from heaven…(words of Rev. Billy Graham).

  32. Wasn’t Elvis boning Whitney Houston’s mother and could Whitney actually be his child?

  33. @ Indy,
    Wow!!
    Thanks for sharing such an exciting revelation.
    Thirty four years of people from all over the world celebrating for 2 weeks out of the year
    in your corner of the globe. In by book, you’ve just become an instant celebrity on these pages by your Graceland connection.
    You mentioned Blue Hawaii,I’ve already mentioned “The Wonder of You”, but I’ve notice so often when a movie has Vegas scenes, Elvis’song “A Little Less Conversation” seems to be an in demand theme song.
    Thanks again Indy for giving us a visualized glimpse of one of our most famous landmarks!!

  34. John Houston is the father of Whitney Houston,he died a few years ago. Others have claimed to be Elvis’ secret child,but Lisa Marie Presley has always been acknowledged as his only child.

  35. @ Indy:
    It is my understanding that when a person live close to a major attraction, they do Not visit often because they are so used to living so close and there is an avalanche of tourist on every corner. Is it still exciting for you to live so close to Graceland or does it ever get just a bit overwhelming??
    P.S.
    Elvis did a lot of cover songs including “In the Ghetto”, and My Way, and as you already know anything that Elvis sang he put his own signature on it!!

  36. Leo and Randall: Well, I’ve toured Graceland and the entire estate 4 times….2 of those times were to take friends from London. I met him when I was about 8 years (with other school kids)old in front of Graceland and almost fainted with excitement. He was extremely nice and thanked us. Once they had a special day where visitors could walk up to the front (separate from a tour). On the porch was Gladys, his mom, holding a tiny white fluffy dog. Mom talked to her for 10 minutes. The mansion itself is breath-taking. It was also fun to eat at the “Heartbreak Hotel” restaurant and see skads of tourists buying everything in the shops across from G.L. Thanks for all your interest.

  37. @ Indy:

    It is my understanding that Priscilla was the mastermind to open Graceland to the public as a tourist attraction, to insure future security for Lisa Marie and the Presley Family which included Elvis’ dad Vernon. Other than the amusement parks, it is my understanding that visitors from other countries look forward to visiting Graceland.
    From all indications, Elvis adored his mother
    and I can easily believe the Southern Charm was out in full force that day between your Mom and Gladys doing their conversation.
    Indy, you have been a wonderful spokesperson,
    in inviting us into the World of Graceland. I believe that the pages that we comment on this site is a far second in comparison to some of the people and actions that have taken place right in front of you through the bewildered sights of people visiting the star attraction of The Presley Landmark!!

  38. Leo, Gee I thought I could keep my big mouth shut, but since you mentioned Priscilla…..A few years ago, Pris, LisaMarie, the late Isaac Hayes, Juliette Lewis, and a few other celeb Scientologists came here to open a Scientology Center, about 25 or so miles from G.L. After about one year, it was closed and with no fanfare. E would never have approved of Scientology, as he was raised in a Pentecostal Church and, as you know, learned a lot from listening to choirs and church music. His humble small home in Tupelo, Mss. is also a place not to be missed. Europeans can’t get enough of that place too. (it’s about 100 miles from Graceland). Two small rooms and no bath, shotgun style.

  39. @ Indy:
    It is amazing how The Colonel(Parker) made millions off Elvis primarily because Elvis was a trusting person when it came to signing contracts. It is my understanding that Barbra
    Streisand wanted him to be her co-star in A Star is Born, but “The Colonel nixed that idea,
    and the part went to singer/songwriter/ actor
    Kris Kristofferson. Barbra won her second Oscar with Paul Williams (for songwriter of the song Evergreen). It has been well published that Elvis was Not a wealthy man when he died, which encouraged Priscilla to take on the responsibility of opening Graceland, which ironically has made a fortune for the Presley estate.Thanks for enlightening me about his roots in Tupelo. While we are on the Elvis connection,Lisa Marie was born exactly 9 months to the day of her parents marriage. Through later divorced, Priscilla and Elvis’ only marriages were to each other, yet Lisa Marie has been married a total of 4 times, this present one appears to be the real deal.It is mind boggling that Lisa Marie’s history in music would include being the daughter of “The King of rock & roll in musical circles” and wife to the “King of Pop” the name given coincidently by Elizabeth Taylor when she presented him with an award years ago. Both men died under the age of 50, and both were associated with landmark residents,and sing-a-long musical hits, and it is my understand that Elvis was extremely generous giving furs and cars to those he liked on a moments notice, and having a hearty appetite for peanut butter and banana sandwiches.
    P.S
    While we all had been expressing our memories
    and nostalgia of Elizabeth, thank you for releasing a quiet
    exit by opening the door and taking us on a whirlwind tour of Elvis’legacy, another well loved superstar of our generation. Stay tuned!!

  40. @ Indy:

    While he is still among us,earlier you had mentioned The. Rev. Billy Graham. This man is a true powerhouse and over the years has commanded over a billion people to be part of his spiritual listening audience. Thank you for mentioning his name while using a verse in an earlier post. Just acknowledging him reminds me of the importance that he has presented himself to be for over 50 years in the lives of presidential,influential and everyday people around the world.
    Until next time as my good friend “Miss Rona” would say, “Keep thinking the good thoughts.”

  41. ^^^^^Well, this has turned into quite a nice commentary. So, to summarize, one might say that in our hearts and mind…”The king still lives”. But, as E has reminded his audience many times when they yelled something like “Elvis, you are the king”, he would say. Thank you, but I am not king…there is only One King and that is Jesus Christ.

  42. Just wanted to put the comments to the 100 mark. Must be a record for posting. Janet really pissed alot of people off!!

    🙁

  43. The last laught … haha! LOL. 🙂
    The U.S. Senate has passed a Boxer/Feinstein-sponsored resolution honoring Elizabeth Taylor. It reads, in part:
    Whereas Elizabeth Taylor used her fame to raise awareness and advocate for people affected by HIV/AIDS;
    Whereas, at a time when HIV/AIDS was largely an unknown disease and those who were affected by HIV/AIDS were ostracized and shunned, Elizabeth Taylor called for and demonstrated compassion by publicly holding the hand of her friend and former costar, Rock Hudson, after he had announced that he had AIDS;
    Whereas Elizabeth Taylor testified before Congress saying, “It is my hope that history will show that the American people and our leaders met the challenge of AIDS rationally and with all the resources at their disposal, for our sake and that of all humanity.”;
    Whereas, in 1985, Elizabeth Taylor became the Founding National Chairman for the American Foundation for AIDS Research (commonly known as “amfAR”);
    Whereas, in 1991, Elizabeth Taylor founded the Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation to provide direct support to those suffering from the disease;
    Whereas the extensive efforts of Elizabeth Taylor have helped educate the public and lawmakers about the need for research, treatment, and compassion for those suffering from HIV/AIDS;
    Resolved, That the Senate recognizes and honors the courageous, compassionate leadership and many professional accomplishments of Elizabeth Taylor; and offers its deepest condolences to her family.
