Sacha Baron Cohen is filming “The Dictator” all over New York, and this week his character was in a slapstick scene where the hungry dictator who is wandering around the city, stole a plate of food right off a diner’s table at an outside cafe and ran away with it. We’ll be happy if this movie is only half as funny as “Borat.”
Sacha Baron Cohen and Isla Fisher finally got married in March, so it’s high time they moved into their Hollywood dream house. Sacha and Isla and their little girl Olive, 2, have been living in a home close to the street and they could hear the tourist busses stopping outside. That, and the fact that Isla is expecting another baby around the new year, caused them to buy this English country style house in the Hollywood Hills for over fifteen million dollars. It has seven bedrooms and baths and a detached movie theater. “Borat” and “Bruno” may be history, but they made a LOT of money for Cohen, who is now filming a family–mystery, “Hugo Cabret” directed by Martin Scorcese.

You’ve seen this woman a number of times and her name might be on the tip of your tongue: it’s Luenell. She’s a regular on the comedy channels and often guest stars on sitcoms. Luenell is most famous, however, for her role as a prostitute in “Borat.” How can we forget her scene with Borat behaving boorishly at a snobbish dinner party! We met her at an Allee Willis party, and Luenell confided to us that she was “terrified” the whole time she was filming those scenes because she “never knew what was going to happen.” The victims of Sacha Baron Cohen’s twisted pranks might have reacted in a very bad way. The Alabama Military Academy is embarrassed because Sasha Baron Cohen managed to pull the wool over their hospitable eyes. Cohen convinced officials at the academy that he was making a German documentary about what it was like to be in Officer Candidate School. They toured “Bruno” around the post, gave him a uniform to wear, and allowed him to join the trainees. The THONG he revealed when changing clothes should have tipped someone off, but it didn’t! Finally a cadet recognized the movie star and alerted older officers who’d never heard of him. He was 86’d, but Sasha managed to walk away with some footage.
Isla Fisher brought her lookalike10 month old Borat baby, Olive, to a Beverly Hills park for some playtime. Olive’s daddy Sacha Baron Cohen is all over the place filming segments for his new movie character Bruno the gay German journalist. He was last seen in Jerusalem where he tricked an Israeli analyist into an interview in which Bruno impudently compared the Mideast conflict with the tension between Brad Pitt’s exwife and current partner.
Sacha Baron Cohen KNOWS it will be hard to fool Americans with his Bruno character – the outrageously gay Austrian fashion expert, since His Borat movie was such a hit. He had hoped to infiltrate fashion week in New York, but quickly realized too many people there know who he is. By necessity, supergay Bruno has evolved into more than just a fashion commentator. Bruno set up auditions in Sherman Oaks for children to appear in a “lucrative German car commercial.” Loads of parents and kids showed up. He got some priceless material asking eager stage parents questions like ” Would you allow your child to be filmed with ants or wasps?” Some of them were NOT frightened off by his swishy shocking demeanor. Next he donned his hotpants to do some kissing and gyrating in the Witchita, Kansas airport. Against all odds, it looks like Sacha is managing to overcome his fame and film a Bruno movie.
Apparently Bruno the fashionista is on the back burner for Sacha Baron Cohen now that he’s signed to play counter-culture activist Abbie Hoffman in Steven Spielberg’s “The Trial of the Chicago Seven.” The Borat creator actually has a lot in common with Hoffman. Abbie was known for his “guerilla theater” tactics in which he drummed up publicity for his causes by being funny – not violent. He knew how to use the media – once he got publicity for bursting into the headquarters of Con Edison, throwing soot in the air and on employees clothing. He said it was more effective than signing petitions for cleaner air. Abbie insisted that laughter is a better learning tool than serious speeches and from what we saw of Borat – Cohen agrees. By the way, Sacha will be taking home a six million dollar paycheck. Hooray for capitalism.

Here’s a face you don’t see around Hollywood a lot – at least since Ken Davitian costarred in Borat. Since his 2006 movie with Sacha Baron Cohen, Ken has had roles in at least seven upcoming movies (including Get Smart) so obviously that nude wrestling scene gave his career a jolt. When he’s not acting, you can find Ken at his restaurant The Dip in the Hollywood & Highland complex. Our friend ate one of his French dip sandwiches and said it was really delicious.
Sasha Baron Cohen’s fiancee Isla Fisher is SO pregnant it almost scares us to look at her. She’s eight and a half months along and Isla looks like she’s having triplets. The happy couple shopped and gassed up in Beverly Hills but they went home early when Isla got tired. Cohen’s facial hair makes us wonder what character he’ll be serving up next. Since EVERYBODY seems to be familiar with Borat, he’ll have to take a rest. No word on when they plan to marry.
