Allee Willis

WE WILL NEVER FORGET ALLEE WILLIS

We had a heartbreaking Christmas eve – our longtime friend, songwriter and kitsch aficionado Allee Willis died suddenly of a heart attack. Allee was much more than a songwriter – her whimsical valley home was loaded with collectibles she found at the Rose Bowl flea market – where we met in the 80’s. She gave amazing theme parties, the likes of which will probably never be seen again. At one all-girl pajama party (we were waited on by scantily clad men serving drinks and retro food) she had a contest – the girl who told the best or funniest story about a youthful romance would win a date with 60’s heartthrob FABIAN! HE was there in person, still looking good! My story was in the lead when Cassandra “Elvira” Peterson topped it with her description of her date with Elvis! SHE won the date with Fabian (a waste – she was married at the time) and we were justifiably disappointed. But WHAT a fun party! We will miss Allee forever…

ALLEE WILLIS: DETROIT IS FAR FROM OVER!

Our longtime friend, songwriter/artist Allee Willis, has always been a cheerleader for her hometown Detroit, and her alma mater, Mumford High School. Growing up in Motor City gave her a special love for music and zest for life. Hurt by the negative stories about her beloved Detroit’s deterioration, she decided to DO something about it. According to Allee, Detroit will RISE again! For the past year she’s been orchestrating a SONG for the city, a video, and finally a feature film about Detroit and its inhabitants. The goal is to reignite hope and joy in the people of Detroit and raise money for schools there. (Please click HERE to donate!) The snippet above is a just a hint of great things to come….

SPEND SUNDAY NIGHT WITH ALLEE WILLIS

If you happen to be downtown in LA tonight and you love kitsch, try to get tickets for UnCabaret located at First and Hope. Our friend, the excruciatingly talented and amusing Allee Willis, is doing her FIRST stand-up performance and she’s scared to death! Allee is a successful songwriter, (Earth, Wind and Fire) an artist, and a huge collector of kitsch. She’s done a few extravagant stage shows in the past year and decided to try something less expensive. After the show you can visit her museum of kitsch by clicking here. (Above, Allee at home – you can tell her act has GOT to be fun!)

ALLEE WILLIS HAS A HOUSE FULL OF MEMORIES AND FUNNY STUFF

Our clever friend Allee Willis got a huge write-up in the Home & Garden section of the New York Times that we had to share with you. Allee has a whimsical 1939 Streamline Moderne stucco house in North Hollywood that is filled memorabilia and a place where she has fabulous retro-inspired parties. One we will never forget was a pajama party for girls only. Carrie Fisher was there, and Penny Marshall and Cassandra “Elvira” Peterson among many others. After fun and games and refreshments, Allee called us together for a contest. The prize was a date with 1960’s pop idol Fabian! (This was the early 90’s when he was SINGLE and still handsome!) We all had to tell an embarrassing story about ourselves that nobody else knew, and the best story would win! Our story was hard to beat, but beautiful redhaired Cassandra Peterson got the most applause for her “date with Elvis” story and SHE won! (Especially annoying because she was married!) When Allee announced the winner, Fabian walked out IN PERSON to kiss her and everyone screamed! It was a great vintage moment! (Above, Allee and Niblet in her rumpus room)

IT’S LUENELL, THE COURAGEOUS “HOOKER” FROM “BORAT”

You’ve seen this woman a number of times and her name might be on the tip of your tongue: it’s Luenell. She’s a regular on the comedy channels and often guest stars on sitcoms. Luenell is most famous, however, for her role as a prostitute in “Borat.” How can we forget her scene with Borat behaving boorishly at a snobbish dinner party! We met her at an Allee Willis party, and Luenell confided to us that she was “terrified” the whole time she was filming those scenes because she “never knew what was going to happen.” The victims of Sacha Baron Cohen’s twisted pranks might have reacted in a very bad way. Fortunately, the end result was hilarious. (Above, Luenell was caught leaving Katsuya)

INDULGE! "IT'S A WOMAN THANG" BY BUBBLES AND CHEESECAKE

On Wednesday night, our eccentric friend Allee Wilis had one of her amazing parties, loaded with Hollywood hipsters, at her equally astonishing moderne playhouse in Valley Village. The event was to celebrate the new single “It’s a Woman Thang” by Bubbles and Cheesecake. (The later-egos of Allee and Holly Palmer.) For your information, Allee not only wrote the theme to Friends “I’ll Be There For You” and the Broadway musical “The Color Purple,” but she’s famous for her art, style, and outrageous parties. Songwriter/ singer Holly recently toured the world with Gnarls Barkley. Computer savvy Allee put together this video that you MUST see- it’s just fun!
