In 2002 screening of “White Oleander” at a Westwood theater, a woman cried out in the dark audience “Help me! I need help!” There were only 25 or 30 people in the small theater and several men ran to her aid. The first on the scene was Tom Hanks who ascertained that the woman felt faint and had collapsed. After he made sure paramedics were on their way, he stayed and kept the woman calm until she was taken away on a stretcher. Tom returned to his seat to explain everything to his waiting wife Rita. The theater manager apologized for the interruption and before he started the movie again he handed everyone free movie passes – including the Hanks’.
