He gave his views on government drug policy and cited his experience – he was a heroin addict arrested 12 times. He has since cleaned up by using abstinence based recovery. Brand stressed the importance of treating drug addiction as an illness rather than a crime. He urged government to rehabilitate addicts rather than imprison them.
