RILEY KEOUGH: 2 REASONS TO BE AT CANNES FILM FESTIVAL

Who would have guessed that Elvis’s pretty granddaughter Riley Keough would become a film director? Granted, she’s an established actress, but we didn’t realize that Elvis’s offspring would turn out to be so ambitious. Actually, Riley co-directed her first film War Pony with partner Gina Gammell -and their first try got them to the Cannes Film Festival! The young directors were floored when they got a huge ovation from their audience. The film is a glimpse into the life of a young 23 year old Native American growing up on a reservation. Coincidentally, Baz Luhrmann’s film Elvis, about Riley’s grandfather, is premiering at Cannes in a few days – fortunately Riley already saw it and loves it, so she will probably stick around for that…

Fashion Guess J Balvin Men in Skirts

J BALVIN SOMETIMES GETS IT RIGHT

Every once in awhile J Balvin likes to surprise the paparazzi and his fans by turning up at an event wearing a skirt. He was first seen last January in the front row at the Louis Vuitton show wearing an LV puffer skirt. Since then, paparazzi keep an eye out for the Colombian singer, hoping for an eccentric photo-op. He did not disappoint this weekend at the Balenciaga Spring show in New York. His Balenciaga skirt is decidedly masculine with metal loops and hardware. Ironically, he’s behind the J Balvin Amor collection for Guess, and his designs are very mundane and uninspired, in pastel colors. His Air Jordan 2 collection got mixed reviews also.

BEING A KARDASHIAN MEANS GIVING UP COMFORT

Kim Kardashian and her 8 year old daughter North West certainly don’t dress like the rest of the people walking around in Portofino, Italy, but they have bodyguards to protect them from whatever. North is already taking fashion tips from mom – check out the jewelry, bustier (waist cincher?) and looong braids. It can’t be easy for Kim walking on those cobblestone streets in stilettos – eventually she had to take her shoes off and walk barefoot. The Kardashians never did seem to care much about being comfortable…

Cannes Film Festival Fashion Out of Control

SHAME, SHAME, SHAME

Okay, ENOUGH is ENOUGH! Even for me, a lifetime fashion victim, this whole “My dress is bigger than yours” idea has gotten out of hand. It’s actually disgusting. It looks like women at the Cannes Film Festival are trying to out-do the over-dressed women at the Met Gala, and succeeding. When you think about all the labor hours and fabric that goes in to making these flamboyant gowns with long trains that are worn ONCE, it is appalling! And overindulgent.

Sorry, but we couldn’t resist publishing this photo! Tom Cruise has moved on to London for the Top Gun: Maverick premier and unfortunately for him, he was photographed with Prince William and Kate Middleton. We say “unfortunately” because in spite of his special shoes, the Royals do make him look short. TOM CRUISE STILL CRAVES THOSE EXTRA INCHES

It’s fascinating that Tom Cruise and his Top Gun:Maverick costar Jennifer Connelly are the same height (5’7”) and look like it in this photo in spite of the fact that she is wearing platform sandals that give her an extra 4 or 5 more inches. It makes one wonder WHAT Tom Cruise has in his shoes! Tom has his top-of-the-line shoes custom made with special lifts inside. Still, he remains dwarfed by his male costars…

JERRY LEE LEWIS: REMEMBERING EARLY ROCKABILLY

Jerry Lee Lewis was inducted into the the Country Music Hall of Fame today (it’s about time – the Rock n’Roll Hall of Fame snapped him up in 1986) and it brought back memories. Jerry was one of the original rockabillies (right, Brian Setzer?) and when I was writing for Star Magazine, I always went to see his shows – mostly at hillbilly bars. The shows were always wild and fun and more often than not, Jerry ended up in a fistfight with some guy in the audience. Unlike many celebrities, Jerry LIKED my tabloid magazine and invited me to his dressing room when he played in Hollywood. (photo above) I was surprised to find petulant looking Lisa Marie Presley in the dressing room also. Bob Dylan also walked in with his entourage and I recall he looked really dirty and I stepped back to give him plenty of space…

TULSA KING: MAFIA FAMILY MOVES FROM NYC TO OKLAHOMA

Tulsa King is a new series filming in NYC for Paramount and it looks like it might be fun. Certainly Sylvester Stallone is already in character to play a mob boss. He plays a mobster who got out of prison after 25 years and is exiled to begin anew in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He sets out to build up his criminal empire and finds himself a fish out of water in this totally foreign place, dealing with the locals. Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan came up with this idea- and it’s very male oriented, so far out of 20 cast members, only one is female. Annabella Sciorra, (remember, she was one of the brave women who got Harvey Weinstein locked up) above, was shooting this scene with Stallone so she must be a recent addition. JANET JACKSON IS NOT ABOUT TO SHOW SKIN

One more highlight from the Billboard awards- Janet Jackson. She’s been doing a VERY covered up look lately (the opposite of Doja Cat) and she found the right designer to dress her. Thom Browne loves to dress women to look like men, and men to look like women – in a totally elegant way.
