RINGO STARR CAN’T STOP DRUMMING

When it comes to Beatles, we see a lot of Paul McCartney around – in concert, on vacations, interviews etc. But we tend to forget that Ringo Starr, 82, lives in LA. He has homes in several countries but spends most of his time here. Did you know he’s the richest drummer in the world? (Estimated: 350 million) After The Beatles split up, he got involved in more money-making projects than any of his bandmates. He married model (and former Bond Girl) Barbara Bach in 1981, and in 1988 they checked into rehab together. That cemented their relationship, and they’ve been together ever since. GOOD OL’ FREDA: BEATLE FANS AREN’T THE ONLY ONES WHO WILL LOVE THIS MOVIE

For a good time this weekend – try to see the hugely appealing documentary “Good Ol’ Freda.” Little Freda Kelly was one of The Beatles earliest fans – and in 1961 she landed a job as secretary for them. Her job lasted until 1972 and she witnessed all the exciting and amusing events of the era plus the evolution of the most famous band of all time. Her inside stories are priceless and she herself is endearing. This little movie is easy to miss – but SO worth seeing and unforgettable…

RINGO STARR’S SON ZAK DRUMS WITH THE WHO

Little did we know that Ringo Starr’s son Zak Starkey, 47, is an in-demand drummer – and has been an unofficial member of The Who since 1996. Apparently Ringo hoped his kid would become and doctor or lawyer, but Zak loved the drums and he’s been a working musician all his adult life. He signed autographs for fans with other Who bandmembers outside the Sunset Marquis Hotel.

IN 1964 THE BEATLES CAME TO HOLLYWOOD

Photo: Bob Bonis

Rolling Stone featured some Lost Beatles photos in their last issue and we love this one from their first visit to Los Angeles. They arrived her in August, 1964, for their concert at the Hollywood Bowl. The Ambassador Hotel cancelled their reservations because they were afraid of the mobs of fans that followed The Beatles. British actor Reginald Owen saved the day and rented his Bel Air mansion (above) to them for the four days they were in town.

ROCK STARS AT THE BEATLES’ “YELLOW SUBMARINE” PREMIER IN 1968

An astute reader and fan of Anita Pallenberg commented on our item about her and led us to a site devoted to the Rolling Stones muse. We were particularly fascinated by this old photo of the audience at the London premier of The Beatles’ 1968 movie “Yellow Submarine.” Anita and Keith are in the second row. How many celebrities of yesteryear can you spot in the crowd?
