ALICIA VIKANDER: THE CENTER OF FASHION SHENANIGANS

Every year, as the Oscars approach, it becomes evident that there is ONE actress that all the major designers are DYING to dress. This year, Swedish actress and star of The Danish Girl, Alicia Vikander is THAT girl. The biggest names in Paris have been competing to dress Alicia on Oscar night – and money is no object. Alicia was invited to all the major collections during Paris Fashion week and she and her companions had multiple offers of lavish round trip paid vacations. Some designers offer their entire collection as a thank-you for selecting their dress. Competitive design houses been flying fabulous gowns and fitting people to wherever Alicia is, hoping she will select one of their gowns. These aren’t loans – she can keep whatever she is simply THINKING of wearing. Money changes hands – bribes – maybe. Being this year’s IT girl is certainly fun!

Maybe for the first time, we agree 100% with Sean Penn. He has no regrets about the Green Card joke he made at the Oscars and doesn’t care what people think. At the Oscars, when Sean opened the Best Picture envelope he wise cracked “Who gave this son of a bitch his green card?” referring to the winner – his longtime Mexican born friend Alejandro Inarritu. Alejandro thought it was hilarious but SOME people thought the joke was in bad taste. In California, people DO joke about green cards a lot, but not necessarily in a bad way. Alejandro was not insulted and implied he pokes fun of Sean too. Later Sean said he had no patience with anyone too stupid or xenophobic to see the irony in his comment, and we have to agree.

Neil Patrick Harris must have felt quite a weight off his blue velvet shoulders when the Oscar show ended – he celebrated at a party at The Palm restaurant afterward. Hosting the Academy Awards is an enormous amount of pressure, especially for someone who’s not a spontaneous comic. Neil is adorable and can sing and dance, but he lacks the edge and spontaniety of comedians like Ellen Degeneres, Ricky Gervais, or Tina Fey and Amy Poehler. Poking a little fun at spoiled movie stars is always a delight.

Another startlingly beautiful actress on the red carpet at the Oscars was “Gone Girl” star Rosamund Pike. And this woman just gave birth last month! Her face is absolutely flawless and (Kardashians take note!) she appeared to have barely any make up on. The form fitting red dress was luscious but would have been even better without the slit. (It must be difficult to sit gracefully in that dress.)

We arrived on the tented up red carpet at the Dolby Theater early this morning to tape some Oscar chatter for Germany. The beautiful Karen Webb is host of the ZDF show “Luete Huete” there, which translates to People Today in English. (Top photo) We bumped into lots of familiar faces among the reporters and photographers preparing for the arrivals – among them was our pal George Pennacchio (abc7 Eyewitness News) in the bottom photo.

Who ARE these people? Protesters from the institution that calls itself the Westboro Baptist Church held up their hateful signs along the route that celebrities took to the Oscars in Hollywood. We’re surprised nobody lost it and jumped out of their limo to pick a fight. As revolting as they are, this is a free country, after all.
