Auction

THIS AUCTION IS LIKE A ROY ROGERS AND DALE EVANS ESTATE SALE

Roy Rogers has always been our cowboy hero and we just HAD to see what Christie’s is auctioning off from the Roy Rogers Museum. We pulled photos of our favorite items. Roy and Dale’s parade quality wardrobes were mostly made by Nudie the Rodeo Tailor and Roy’s outfits are expected to bring in $5000 to $7000 while Dale’s might be more affordable in the thousand dollar range. Too bad she was so tiny. We love the framed children’s cowboy and cowgirl ensembles ($1500 to $2000) and the Rogers family dishes (a full set of Wallace China in the Westward Ho pattern $3000 to $5000) Incidentally, Roy’s fringed gabardine cowboy suits are in remarkable condition and his son explained that his dad grew up poor and always took meticulous care of his fancy clothes.

MOCA HOPES YOU’LL FIT INTO LADY GAGA’S SHOES

gagadress1 Prada designed size 4 bouffant dress, hand painted and festooned with chandelier glass, and Frank Gehry designed headdress that Lady Gaga wore when she performed at the MOCA 30th Anniversary Gala are being auctioned off to raise money for the museum. Included with the dress are Gaga’s matching size 6 and ½ platform shoes with chandelier glass dripping from the heels. (Tiny feet!) Yes, the headpiece reminds us of Disney Hall. We saw these treasures up close and they ARE exceptional. The costume is valued at $30,000, but someone might get a good deal. The Gehry hat is also valued at $30,000, and it’s all for a worthwhile cause – we love our museum.

There’s something about a garment worn by a celebrity that makes it seem much more desirable and personal than most memorabilia. Especially if it was worn in a movie or photo. A red ultrasuede pullover samba shirt (with ¾ length sleeves) worn by Elvis Presley in a 1963 publicity photo for RCA is up for auction in Chicago. Leslie Hindman auctioneers are offering a group of Elvis items (including some of his hair) from a private collector. They predict the shirt will go for around $4000 – we think it will sell for more.
