His hair has been thinning fast and a bit of augmentation might look great. We’re still reeling from the loss of brilliant writer Christopher Hitchens because he fearlessly verbalized the things many people hesitate to say. His common sense, his intellect, and his way with words made him a hero. He had fierce opinions on many subjects and managed to make anyone he debated look foolish and pushed everyone to THINK more. What a great world this would be if his book “god is not great: How Religion Poisons Everything” were required reading in all schools. The U.K. born Hitchens treasured the freedom of speech amendment and loved America so much that when he died, he died an American citizen. Fortunately many of Hitchens best debate moments are available on Youtube.
CANDY SPELLING – A HOARDER?
What makes an already famously wealthy person want to appear on a reality show? Candy Spelling certainly doesn’t need the money and everybody knows who she is. We get the feeling she senses that people disapprove of her extravagance sand she wants the world to know what a “nice, normal person” she really is. Hmmm…That’s the only explanation we can come up with for her doing the HGTV show “Selling Spelling Manor.” The show reveals Candy’s dilemma: she has to pack up and move from a 56,600 sq ft, 123 room house to a 16,000 sq ft penthouse condo. Rooms are jampacked with French antiques and her collections of dolls, beanie babies, Aaron Spelling’s scripts. etc. Candy had to pack and leave in 30 days and started to question if she had become an upscale hoarder. She parked mountains of stuff, mostly in boxes, into a 20,000 sq ft storage facility. Unless her kids Randy and Tori go through all those boxes, it might end up on “Storage Wars” in 30 years.
WHAT HAPPENED TO TOM HANKS?
We used to look forward to seeing Tom Hanks movies because they were as likeable as he seems to be in real life. But since the absurd and dull Da Vinci Code movies we’ve lost faith in Tom and expect the worst. Even though he has a small role, the worst is what we got tonight with “Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close.” It’s a pretentious movie about a self- centered boy whose father died in the Twin Towers and because he happens to be quite intelligent his obnoxious behavior is accepted. This meandering book should never have been made into a movie – it’s too long, it’s maudlin, and the characters are unlovable. Maybe we shouldn’t blame Tom for this mess, but maybe we should…
KATHY GRIFFIN REFUSES TO ANSWER THE QUESTION: WHO’S YOUR BOYFRIEND?

Kathy Griffin enjoys PRETENDING that various newsworthy guys are her boyfriend – like the Old Spice guy, Levi Johnston, and Adnan Ghalib, and she loves the resulting publicity. But try to get her to talk about who she’s REALLY dating and she clams up fast! She’s been photographed in affectionate situations with the guy above for the past few months, but no one seems able to pry his name out of her. We won’t give up, however. ED WESTWICK IS DRESSED TO KILL ON GOSSIP GIRL

If more 24 year olds dressed like Ed Westwick on Gossip Girl, the world would be a better place. How clean and appealing he looks! Granted, he is dressed by expert stylists, but wouldn’t it be nice if guys wanted to emulate him the way female viewers want the same dresses worn on the show. If we never see another man in a baseball cap or hoodie, or ugly sneakers, we could live happily ever after…
DIANE KEATON UNDERESTIMATED STEVE JOBS – AND LIVED TO REGRET IT
Let this be a lesson to young readers. Diane Keaton clarified her late 1970’s, potentially romantic encounter with Steve Jobs on Ellen, and we can all learn from her behavior. Diane told Ellen that she was living in New York and Steve Jobs moved into a three floor penthouse in the building complex. He let it be known that he wanted to meet the “Annie Hall” star, and although he was around 8 years younger, Diane paid him a visit in his apartment. She was overwhelmed by the fabulous penthouse, but underwhelmed by Jobs, who kept talking about computers and how everyone would have one in their home someday. Back in the 70’s this sounded improbable and Diane dismissed him as rather boring. She had no appreciation of his talent and very much REGRETS not recognizing his brilliance and cultivating at the least, a friendship. “I was an idiot!” (Above, Diane in “Annie Hall” in 1977)

We just returned from The Grove where we saw the new Sherlock Holmes movie, and noticed the mall was unusually packed with shoppers, security people, and velvet ropes. And it wasn’t just to see Santa. Katy Perry had been there for a few hours promoting her new fragrance “Meow” that is on sale at Nordstrom. She made a spectacular arrival on the trolley and looked adorable in pink, but rather normal. (We guess she’s giving her overprocessed hair a rest.)
ALL-AMERICAN MUSLIMS DON’T KNOW HOW TO TREAT THEIR DOGS
TLC’s reality series All-American Muslim got a whole lot of favorable attention when Lowe’s pulled their ads from the show. Lowe’s is being slammed right and left for the move and they will certainly live to regret it. Meanwhile, the Muslims freaked out their own viewers and lost their acquired good will due to an act of animal cruelty in episode 4. One of the show’s stars Shadia Amen outraged animal lovers when she heartlessly gave away her husband’s 10 year old dog because of her allergies. Americans love their dogs and this is an act not to be tolerated. According to The Hollywood Reporter, TLC is getting plenty of flak and Muslims aren’t looking so all-American. (Personally, we grind our teeth every time we see a woman in a head wrap or burka because she is obviously accepting the notion that she is a second class citizen.)
BLAKE LIVELY AND RYAN REYNOLDS: LOVE ME, LOVE MY DOG

Now we KNOW this is a serious romance between Blake Lively and her Green Lantern costar Ryan Reynolds. Blake is walking Ryan’s dog, along with her own. Ryan is crazy about his Golden Retriever, Baxter, and wouldn’t trust him to just anybody. Blake was seen walking on the Gossip Girl set with Baxter and her own tiny Maltipoo Penny, and she was loving up both of them.
