Wonder what the other passengers think when two masked people get on the subway and paparazzi start shooting? Surely that women sitting near Katie Holmes and her new boyfriend Emilio Vitolo must wonder what IS going on. A long as Katie has her mask on, she feels free to go anywhere unrecognized, but those photographers who wait outside her building and follow her from home are a dead giveaway!

Little did the people in charge of sanitizing the interior of London subways realize that they washed away some valuable and heartfelt Banksy art. The art piece was titled If You Don’t Mask, You Don’t Get, and by the time Banksy unveiled the art on his Instagram account, it had already been scrubbed off by cleaning crews. It was treated like any other subway graffiti, but it DID illustrate that the cleaners did a thorough job. The transport company invited Banksy to do a new version of his message “in a suitable location.” Of course, the whole thing could have been another Banksy prank, and he KNEW this would happen…
Photos from the UK reveal all the busy shopping neighborhoods and sightseeing spots shut down, but we were mesmerized by this photo of the empty subway. The lack of passengers wasn’t surprising – we were amazed because this subway car is so clean and shiny and pleasant to look at. Actually inviting! New York subways NEVER looked like this- not even on the first day they opened! So I guess we have a case of subway envy…

Commuters got on and off the subway train headed uptown in Manhattan and they were all very busy on their phones. If they weren’t so self-involved they might have noticed they were sitting near a movie star. And the movie star – Katie Holmes– is the only one reading a book instead of staring at her phone! Apparently phone addiction makes it much easier for celebrities to go about their business doing everyday things unnoticed!

The 9th Annual No Pants Subway Ride in London commenced today and fortunately it was organized. 400 participants rode pantless in groups of around 20 people back and forth on the subway Sunday afternoon. They all agreed to wear non-offensive underwear. Amazing, since the temperature was below zero! The idea originated with a prank in New York in 2002, and spread to other countries, but London seemed to love the idea most of all. That woman in front of the top photo looks like SHE doesn’t see the humor in it.

Sometimes the traffic in Manhattan is suffocating and you just HAVE to take the subway. Katie Holmes was silently squashed between two bulky guys who took up more than their share of precious space on the crowded Soho train. It’s still not clear whether Katie has a boyfriend- she and Jamie Fox were photographed holding hands in early September, but haven’t been spotted together since. Katie divorced Tom Cruise five years ago and she’s always seen alone or with her daughter Suri – some speculate that she had a clause in her divorce papers that she wouldn’t publicly date for 5 years. She deserves more than a part time guy….

Even bundled up with minimal makeup, supermodel Christy Turlington, 48, is still a knockout on the subway. She’s one of our favorites because later in her career, Christy went back to school and graduated from NYU with honors and got a Masters degree from Columbia University. Besides modeling, she has used her education to become very active in women’s health and education charities worldwide. She’s been married to actor/director Ed Burns for 13 years and they have two kids. Interesting fact: Christy’s sister is married to Ed’s brother!

It’s always fun to see a celebrity on the subway – especially when they think their low key undercover look has everyone fooled. Iman, 61, successfully rode the subway in Manhattan almost undetected – she played down her supermodel glamour in a puffy coat, sneakers, a flowing wig, and the dead giveaway – big sunglasses. (Sunglasses on a hazy New York day are a bit odd.) She hasn’t been seen out a lot since her husband David Bowie died. Iman still has her cosmetics company to run and a sixteen year old daughter to keep her eye on.
