We were horrified to learn that the late Casey Johnson was living in “Grey Gardens” type squalor when she died. Her rented LA house was filled with garbage and had no electricity, water, or gas, because she couldn’t pay the utility bills. She kept her Porsche hidden in a garage so it wouldn’t be repossessed. The walls were covered with graffiti and the swimming pool was like a green swamp. How she managed to get dressed up and go out is a mystery. Neighbors said sleazy looking types stopped by her house at all hours. When she refused to go to rehab, her parents cut off her finances. They’ve been criticized for letting Casey live like that, but they thought “tough love” was the right move, and might force her to get help. If they HAD supported her financially, they would have been facilitating her self destructive habits. We feel sorry for the parents – Casey had a bad drug habit and probably mental illness – you can’t FORCE someone like that to clean up unless they WANT to. Neglect is not the issue here. There really is no answer, is there?
Casey Johnson Drugs Grey Gardens Rehab
“The answer” is that we need to change the way our mentally ill are treated in this country. We USED to have hospitals for these people hwere they could get help, true, not exactly the greatest of help back then, but something is better than what we have now which is nothing! Now we just leave sick people out on their own, in the streets, to drink themselves to death in the cold, or OD in the gutters behind some sleezy motel.
Her family should have been legally able to commit her against her wishes and get her help that she needed. Perhaps it was drugs alone, or maybe she also was bi-polar or some such problem. These things do not fix themselves.
It’s too bad a young, beautiful woman, with an adopted young daughter dependant on her had to lose her life because of our fucked up “system”. It’s time for a change. THIS is barbaric.
“you can’t FORCE someone like that to clean up unless they WANT to”
Janet, I have no idea what world you live in. This is what needed to happen: You document her lifestyle, pictures of her house and living conditions. Then you go to court and have the person declared “non compos mentis”*. Then the person goes voluntarily, or though restraints to rehab/ mental facility for professional help.
A complete story needs to be written and published. Including (a step by step) how to have a person committed to a treatment facility. So this woman didn’t die in vain. She slipped through the cracks in the system.
*The term non compos mentis means ‘not of sound mind’.
the united states like to bet on these kind of nobodies.
BUT YOU’RE STILL WONDERING WHY THE COUNTRY IS GOING DOWN?
Her parents could have paid her rent and utilities at least. But giving her cash or anything she could sell? Not a good idea. Some people don’t want help and there isn’t anything you can do about it. There is a man in the UK and I don’t remember if he’s a soccer player or a singer/actor but he is very famous there. He is a raging alcoholic. He has been in and out of rehab and even had to get a liver transplant. Yet even after nearly dying several times, he now can be seen sitting on the steps of pubs waiting for them to open and drinking until closing. He just doesn’t want to stop. IMO Casey Johnson didn’t want help. So sad. She could have done so much good with her family’s money and influence.
It seems she never got over turning down the Simple Life with Paris Hilton. Not realizing the fame she could of had. She spiraled down hill after the show became a hit.
The parents gave her a lifestyle with no meaning. All she had to do is shop all day. Warren Buffet will not let any of his family live off a trust fund. If they don’t want to earn their own money then they don’t get any from him. All he does is provide them with a first class education. The rest is up to them. The Johnson family could learn a lot from him.
Her parents owed her nothing. It is hear breaking, but at some point
even family members have to stop cleaning up your messes for you to take some responsibility for yourself. It is a shame, this wasted life.
My question is about Tila – How do you lay dead in your house for days and your “financee” with the big fat diamond ring and says she loves you not check on you? Yeah, proving that Tila ain’t nothing but a gold digger. I am shocked. Not. And you know that bitch will ride this for all it is worth.
The things/people that Hollywood is making relevant to the world is sickening these days.
** “heart breaking”
In what alternative universe do we live in that we EXPECT the parents of a 30 year old to meet all of her expenses??? If this was anyone else, no one would be questioning her parents about their decisions about their adult child who, BTW, had adopted a child. Good riddance to bad rubbish.
She was my favorite new hot mess. I assumed she’d live a long time like that, like Courtney Love, or clean up like some other celebs. What a shame it had to come to this.
this makes no sense? why would she have a maid but no electricity….what would the maid exactly be cleaning i the house was illed with trash, sounds like janet hasnt done her homework
squalor can happen in a week or two. Thank God the maid checked in because where was her “we are so in love” golddigger? I mean, faux financee? Typo stays, as Tila expected Casey to finance her life.
Tila, you slut, go back to Singapore where the sex trade is really really wide open. You are a lesbian no-good skank. Go away and stop spreading your nasty germs here, as we have enough already.
When you’re that damn rich you trick ‘kidnap’ your beloved wayward child for a fun, luxury vacation only you take them to a secluded place to dry out and get the dire medical attention and counciling they need and until they are well. Never give up.
The answer would have been a financial trust and a trustee, who paid the bills for house, car and utilities, cleaners, and maybe a grocery service, but who gave her little for her vices while attempting to get her other help.
She was discovered by her maid or cleaning woman. Seems inconsistent with her being broke or living in filth.
A great strategy is to ignore Tila altogether, really. She is obviously deranged and things may not end well for her either.
The family was not legally obliged to put out a penney for the deceased, but on moral grounds they had many options. I agree that to get these wayward people on the right track is not always successful. Remember Britney’s dad vs. Amy Winehouse’s dad. One had better success than the other and both women appear on the mend.
It is obvious Casey was delusional and physically ill, perhaps diabetes requiring insulin I hear. For more the reason her family should have gone commando on her. It is sad it deteriorated to a battle over her dogs with that lunatic.
I hope her twisted soul is now RIP. Watch Tila milk this one for all it’s worth. On the other hand, ignore her crazy a$$.
She wasn’t discovered by her housekeeper. She was discovered by her landlady, who was probably coming to collect the rent.
We all need someone to love us. Even the rich.
I disagree that you can have her committed so easily. It may be easier in whatever state where you live, but I have a brother we have tried to help for years. If you get them in front of the judge and they are lucid, you cannot have them declared incompetent. It is like beating your head against the wall. I have begged, pleaded, cried, yelled, been mean, been nice and nothing works. All you can do is try to pick up the pieces of the lives that the person destroys. Don’t blame the parents of that girl for what she became. She made her choices, whether she was mentally ill or not, and while I pity her and the loss of her life I feel tremendous grief for her family. If you haven’t been in their shoes, you cannot know the hopelessness of dealing with an addict.
KD, you hit the nail on the head. Having a loved one who is an addict is a nightmare that very often ends badly, no matter what you do or how hard you try. People who have not been through this have no idea. There simply are limits to what you can do, no matter how much money & resources you have, to help an adult addict.
I do not let an addicted relative in my house. I do not want him to steal or fix windows to enter later. Hence, I do not have family celebrations here like I used to because my family thinks I am wrong and will not attend without him. Meanwhile they lock everything up when he is around and suffer stolen credit cards and cars in silence.
As it turns out, Casey Johnson didn’t die of a drug overdose. She neglected to take her insulin properly (again!). And as for “tough love,” clearly it was the wrong thing to do. I suspect that if her parents had stopped trying to manipulate her by turning the money on and off and instead given her a big hug and a giant dose of unconditional love, that may have worked miracles. She was lost. She was lonely. She was hurting. All that acting out she did screams it loud and clear.
No one in the world is ever going to know if your child is going to get addicted to drug or even try drugs in the future.
In this picture above she looks really happy and cheerful and dressed to kill and she looks some what wasted and messed up.
THE FEELINGS…SHE HAD WHILE TAKING THE DRUGS GAVE HER JOY AND THAT IS THE ONLY SOME ONE RUNS TOWARD DRUGS IS THE FEELINGS.
Her family could of and should of and would had.
Would she still be here if her family would had tried something different?
So many sins on this earth and if you have not tried everything in the world..You will never know what power is held over you and..what effect it would have on your emotions and thoughts and altered states is what this woman was shooting for and it was something she needed over and over and over again.
Family could had got a court order and put her in jail to save her life and they knew the Drugs where in her house? They could had pressed charges and had her placed in jail but they love there child and thought they where going to change and parents never like to give up hope.
Kids make mistakes and…learn hard lessons and..parents are always learning and losing a child is hard and it hurts to see there future leave this earth and..the lost that is never going to come back in life and..there grandchildren along with that.
Clean house drug attic do not clean or cook or care or give a dam..often live like pigs and are not paying there bills and always spending there money on drugs and..often looking for the next high.
Problem when family pays the bill and so that way the child can take there money and spend it in another direction.
Often people learn from lost…And this family has lost a child that was bright and smart and loving and drugs change you and make you mean inside and also makes you not give a Dam about people around you.
The reason she died is that she did not want to stop and it killed her and the state should make it legal for people to do this if needed and it is better to control how much a person gets…Instead of having them go out of control and O.D. Instead.
Who put Drugs on this earth God and he created everything in this earth and who says they are bad for you…People who don’t do drugs and..We are all going to die from something any way..Why not pick are way of going?
Dr’s Push Pills and give deadly combinations that give sudden death anyway and when you look at all the movie stars and actors…who have died or O.D. The list is too long.
Pill pushing pricks of america are killing people and so is salt and sugar but are those going to be removed from the shelves.
Mental Health Medication cause sudden death and heart attacks and strokes and other diseases and what is the differents in un-legal drugs?
