Oscar fashion was perfectly civilized, safe and mostly elegant – but BORING. We’ve seen those same long gowns in assorted colors with borrowed diamond necklaces year after year. Actress/singer Janelle Monae is a risk taker. Yesterday she showed up at the Independent Spirit Awards in truly festive attire. What we love about her is she never looks like someone else dressed her – she has powerful and specific taste of her own, and always livens up the atmosphere.

I’m sick of her style.
She definitely doesn’t look as though anyone dressed her. This year’s Oscar fashion was beautiful, not boring. It’s nice to have someone like Monae to balance the fashion show out, but her getup isn’t exactly awe-inducing.
The jacket is cute, not sure how I feel about the skirt. I will say I agree with Janet on this one. I am so bored with these boring spaghetti strap boobs hanging out dresses.
