BEVERLY D’ANGELO AND CHEVY CHASE ARE STILL A COUPLE ONSCREEN

Speaking of Chevy Chase, his costar in those National Lampoon vacation movies, Beverly D’Angelo, looks delightful in this photo taken at an event this week. (She is the mother of Al Pacino’s twins, by the way.) She and Chevy make an appearance in the new Vacation movie starring Ed Helms as their grown up son Rusty. Even more interesting, Beverly and Chevy filmed a sitcom pilot for ABC about a pair of selfish retired baby boomers whose lives are turned upside down when their grandchildren move in with them. Don’t know if it’s been picked up yet, but we bet that Beverly has some interesting stories about Chevy.

WE SPENT AN EVENING WITH CHEVY CHASE

Chevy Chase, has indeed, always been his own worst enemy. He was lucky enough to be in the cast of Saturday Night Live when it premiered in 1975 and the show was an immediate sensation. His success was so intoxicating that he quit after the first season “to become a movie star.” And he never looked back. Rumors that he was obnoxious were just starting to circulate but he was still generally admired. I happened to make a date with a young actor who appeared in the very successful film “Nashville” that same year and he brought his friend Chevy along. We ended up at someone’s fabulous hillside house watching TV and the REAL Chevy was soon revealed. He made nonstop insulting comments about everyone on the tube. He was condescending and pretentious about his fancy upbringing and vulgar to boot. He made everyone feel awful – especially his nice actor friend. It was an unforgettable and very revealing evening.

EXCUSE ME SIR, DID YOU USED TO BE CHEVY CHASE?

Chevy Chase ALMOST made it through LAX without being recognized but an eagle-eyed paparazzi nailed him. He looks uncharacteristically puffy – hopefully it’s just a weight gain and not something health related. We loved him in those Vacation movies, but he‘s never been a particularly nice person. We happened to double date with him back in the late 70’s and found him to be arrogant and mean-spirited as a young man also.

WILL THE NEW “VACATION” BE TWICE AS FUNNY – OR HALF AS FUNNY AS THE ORIGINAL?

Looks like Christina Applegate will slip into Beverly D’Angelo’s shoes in the reboot of the 1980s family comedy Vacation. Ed Helms of Bachelor Party fame is signed to play the Chevy Chase “Dad” role. The reboot will be updated in that the son Rusty (originated by Anthony Michael Hall) now grown up and married, will take his wife and kids on a vacation similar to the one he remembers with his family in the 80’s. Ed Helms will play the grown up Rusty and Christina will play his restless wife. The original Vacation was written by John Hughes and directed by Harold Ramis – it will be interesting to compare the two.

DAN AYKROYD IS THE MINISTER AT CHEVY CHASE FAMILY WEDDING

We were surprised to hear that Saturday Night Live alumni Dan Aykroyd and Chevy Chase are still SO friendly that Dan performed the marriage ceremony for Chevy’s daughter Cydney’s wedding this week. (Remember, Chevy left SNL after the first season to become a MOVIE STAR, and there were some hard feelings.) Who knew Aykroyd was an ordained minister? He posted this photo on Facebook which shows him cracking up the wedding party – that’s Chevy in the front row. Dan is active in the alcohol business, and he was in the news last year when 21,000 bottles of his expensive CHV vodka in their distinctive skull shaped glass bottles were hijacked. This was Dan’s tongue in cheek statement:
“My partners and I are sorry to lose this much vodka to theft and do not condone criminal activity in any fashion, but we are happy that some consumers will be afforded the opportunity of tasting it at significantly lower than retail price,”
