THE LONE RANGER: WE MISS JAY SILVERHEELS ALREADY

#theloneranger #janetcharlton

We admit we have mixed feelings about the new Lone Ranger movie starring Johnny Depp and Armie Hammer. First of all, it’s produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and that means nonstop mind-bending action. Originally Johnny was asked to play the Lone Ranger and that suited us fine. But he insisted on playing Tonto and that’s where we have a problem. We’d love to see a real Native American play the handsome Tonto – those moccasins are hard to fill. Johnny looks like he might be hamming it up. When it comes out next summer, we’ll see for sure… (Above, original actors Clayton Moore and sexy Jay Silverheels )

  1. God how I long for the days of just good ol fashioned story telling without all the overblown egos and action. Looks so creepy and like a mess. Will prob be a huge hit. Weirder the better these days – all people care about is action and money. Will be a blockbuster and I’ll never see it. Original was such a great story and agree with you re Native American playing Tonto. Sad.

  2. it’s the same story as usual: THE BEST THINGS WILL CONTINUE TO LIVE ON IN OUR MINDS!!

  3. Agree. Would have also preferred to see a full blooded Native American in this role.

  4. Nobody can measure up to the original with Clayton Moore and Jay Silverheels. Also, it was a time when everybody knew there was a clear line between right and wrong and black and white. There was no deliberate trying to smear the line and make so many gray areas and try to make everything vague and ambiguous. That’s part of the problem with what’s wrong now days-nobody wants to confront evil, or what’s wrong.

  5. LOL Kitty. Loved the old westerns simply because of Silver and Trigger. Beautiful animals.

At first I thought Johnny Depp might be an interesting choice for Tonto. But then I saw the photos of him with that bird on his head. Seriously, WTF?

  6. Right, I used to watch the westerns to see the horses and the sexy cowboys and lawmen. LOL

  7. I have been working on a book about Jay Silverheels for 2 years. i live in brantford near grand river six nations. i am 65 with long time connections there. i have a great deal of info on jay but if anything is around that i can use please contact me. zig@realpeopleshistory.com
