SIMON COWELL HAS CLONING IN HIS FUTURE

Who knew that America’s Got Talent host Simon Cowell was such a soft touch when it came to dogs? He has three Yorkshire Terriers that he adores and spoils – and rarely leaves at home. They have flown around the world with him (including Barbados, above) and have the run of his private jet with white leather seats. Despite the fact that he shares his life with his partner Lauren Silverman and their five year old son Eric, Simon says he can’t BEAR the idea of living WITHOUT his beloved dogs and is starting the process of having them cloned in South Korea – at $75,000 a pup!

MEN COME AND GO, BUT OLIVER IS ALWAYS THERE FOR NICOLLETTE SHERIDAN

Dynasty star Nicollette Sheridan‘s marriage to wannabe actor Aaron Phypers only lasted three months, but the divorce took years because he wanted spousal support. In the meantime, he started dating Nicollette’s hidden Hills NEIGHBOR Denise Richards. We’re not sure if Phypers GOT spousal support, but the out-of-work actor married Beverly Hills Housewife Denise as soon as the divorce finalized. Now he has a job appearing on Housewives with his bride. Nicollette has been seeing a few guys, but her main man is still Oliver, her golden retriever. She took Oliver to dinner at Craigs and he wore his service dog jacket.

WIDOWS: THE MOST DECENT CHARACTER IS A DOG

We have to give credit to the publicist for the heist movie Widows: because they have whipped up considerable enthusiasm for the film. More than it deserves. The first explosive scene makes you feel like you’ve seen the movie before – many times over. Why does EVERY action movie start the same way – with ear-splitting detonations? All the men in Widows are despicable – the female stars try their best, but writers haven’t given them any likeable characteristics. The dismal story is set in politically corrupt Chicago where literally everyone seems to be on the take. We like someone to root for. Viola Davis’s dog was our favorite character.

MICKEY ROURKE’S DINNER WITH HIS BEST FRIEND

Mickey Rourke is one of Hollywood’s most puzzling and eccentric characters – but he has one enduring and sweet character trait. He truly loves his dogs. He often rhapsodizes about his pooches and takes them with him whenever possible. Tonight he had a dinner date with one of them. Mickey pulled a child seat up to the table at a pizza restaurant in Beverly Hills so he and his tiny dog could enjoy eating together. (Restaurant workers watched him through the window.)

FURTHER PROOF THAT JUSTIN BIEBER WANTS TO SETTLE DOWN

Justin Bieber knows his way around a stroller! The singer may not look so hot in this photo, but he DOES have a sense of humor. He had breakfast alone at a Toluca Lake café and ran into some fans outside, including a man with these pampered dogs. Justin was nice to all the kids, dogs, and people who approached him, according to paparazzi…

ANDY COHEN HAS MORE CLOUT THAN HE REALIZED

Andy Cohen’s dog Wacha can’t help looking lovingly up at his owner while they take their daily walk in the West Village. Andy noticed one block that he usually traversed was frequently littered with trash. He complained loudly and was surprised when the block was suddenly cleaned up. Delighted with his accomplishment, Andy declared “I should run for mayor!” His online followers encouraged him to get into politics, but he’s too busy with “Watch What Happens Live” for now.

FOUR HOLLYWOOD WOMEN ARE FIGHTING TO SAVE KOREAN DOGS

Four Hollywood actresses showed up at LA’s Consulate General of the Republic of Korea building to convince South Koreans to ban using dogs for food. (And we love them for that!) Kim Basinger, Priscilla Presley, Donna D’Errico, and EG Daily had plenty of depressing ammunition (posters etc) to illustrate their point. The pictures are difficult to look at – the cruelty of raising dogs for food is appalling. Apparently, NO actors showed up to draw attention to the dogs’ plight.

RAY DONOVAN WOULD NEVER DO THIS

Obviously 6’3” Liev Schreiber doesn’t fancy himself to be a tough guy like his Donovan character. When his dog Woodrow was a small puppy, Liev carried him around in a pouch strapped across his chest. Now the pooch has a wooden box with a comfy little bed for their bike rides together in New York. It ALMOST makes up for the fact that since his split from Naomi Watts, Liev, 50, has been dating a former Miss South Dakota, Taylor Niesen, 26. Almost.

NICOLLETTE SHERIDAN IS ANYTHING BUT DESPERATE

We love celebrities who love their dogs and aren’t too self-important to walk them. Nicollette Sheridan’s husbands and boyfriends may come and go, but her dogs always remain first in her heart and she takes them everywhere. The former Desperate Housewives star has some big shoes to fill with her job on the CW’s new Dynasty. She’s playing the Joan Collins role of the glamorous and manipulative Alexis Carrington. A major fringe benefit is the fact that Alexis has the most fabulous wardrobe…

BARBRA STREISAND’S MORAL DILEMMA

Since Variety spilled the beans that Barbra Streisand had her beloved dog Samantha cloned, it’s been the talk of dog-lovers. You can’t blame Barbra for loving her Coton de Tulear so much that she had her cloned – twice. Every dog owner knows the agonizing heartbreak when the animal they’ve spent so many years living with, inevitably dies. Cloning seems like a good idea if you have an extra fifty to a hundred thousand dollars. But, as animal activists point out – the clone may LOOK the same, but the dogs are NOT likely to have the same personality. Even Barbra admits her dogs don’t behave like Samantha. So maybe it’s not really such a great idea…
