PATTI SMITH IS DESIGNER ANN DEMEULEMEESTER’S MUSE

Belgium designer Ann Demeulemeester’s clothing has been described as “funereal” and it IS, but in a good way. The collection always has a lot of unique black suits with white shirts and this is one of our favorites from her fall collection. Ann’s biggest inspiration is singer Patti Smith and they have become great friends over the years. Smith’s influence is quite evident here and she always wears something of Ann’s when she’s onstage. A black suit with a white gauzy train – perfect for an award show.

The “Godmother of Punk,” Patti Smith, just had lunch at Da Silvano’s in New York. It was way back in 1976 that she first appeared on Saturday Night Live and nothing was the same after that. She was a punk goddess who retired to Detroit for years to raise a family and after her husband died she started performing again. She retains her spirit and style.
