The “Godmother of Punk,” Patti Smith, just had lunch at Da Silvano’s in New York. It was way back in 1976 that she first appeared on Saturday Night Live and nothing was the same after that. She was a punk goddess who retired to Detroit for years to raise a family and after her husband died she started performing again. She retains her spirit and style.

Patti Smith is one of the greats, from a time when substance fed style, performers had integrity and intelligence, and the general public was interesting in ideas rather than lifestyle and labels. What happened to the world???

Esther Wong is the ‘Godmother of Punk, She showcased acts like Oingo Boingo, the Police, X, the Ramones, the Motels, 20/20, the Knack, the Know, the Textones, the Go-Gos, the Plimsouls, the Nu-Kats, the Bus Boys, Plane English, the Naughty Sweeties and others at her club, Madame Wong’s.
