PARTY TIME FOR CHRISTOPHE WALTZ

Past Oscar winner Christoph Waltz, 59, is enjoying the pre-Oscar parties and he was photographed arriving at the Cadillac party at the Chateau Marmont with an attractive young woman. He IS married with children – his wife is costume designer Judith Holste and they share homes in Berlin and Los Angeles. We’re not hinting at any funny business BUT…. Incidentally, Christophe won 19 OTHER awards besides the Oscar for his supporting role in Inglourious Basterds in 2009. He’ll be seen next in The Legend of Tarzan.

It’s always nice to see someone who really DESERVES it, get a star on the Walk of Fame. Austrian actor Christoph Waltz was “discovered” by Quentin Tarantino (above left) and received an Oscar for his memorable role in “Inglourious Basterds.” His “Django Unchained” costar Samuel L. Jackson (above right) also showed his support at the ceremony. You can next see Christoph in “Big Eyes” which is coming out at Christmas.

BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR DILEMMA: DENIRO OR WALTZ?

We were dead set on Robert DeNiro winning Best Supporting Actor for “Silver Linings Playbook” at the Oscars this year – until we finally got around to seeing “Django Unchained” and once again, Christoph Waltz stole the whole movie. Now we’re completely torn between the two. DeNiro was incredibly funny and sensitive – more genuine than he’s been in years. He made us laugh out loud. But then Christoph came along with the juiciest dialog imaginable, and he delivered each line PERFECTLY. Another laugh out loud. His character is mesmerizing. As much as we like Tommy Lee Jones, we don’t think his role in Lincoln topped DeNiro and Waltz, but HE is predicted to win for Lincoln. Why?

CHRISTOPH WALTZ AND HIS TRADEMARK BOOTS

Christoph Waltz can’t get out of those vintage riding pants and boots that look so good on him. His Oscar winning Nazi character in “Inglourious Basterds” wore the same authoritative style. Christoph plays a volatile animal trainer for a circus in “Water for Elephants” and apparently he gives Rob Pattinson’s character a hard time. Reese Witherspoon plays Waltz’s long suffering wife.

TOM FORD AND CHRISTOPH WALTZ: ON TO THE NEXT AWARD SHOW!

Two winners. Tom Ford and Christoph Waltz walked through Heathrow airport together after the BAFTA awards in London. Both have been regulars at all the award shows. As usual, Christoph won the supporting actor award for “Inglourious Basterds,” and Colin Firth won the leading man award for the movie “A Single Man,” which Tom directed.

GOOD NEWS! “INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS” IS NOT JUST ANOTHER DEPRESSING WAR MOVIE

Peter Falk might be amused to see that certain characteristics of his TV detective character “Columbo” live ON in the form of a Nazi! Quentin Tarantino’s new WWII movie “Inglourious Basterds” is a huge surprise- it’s not just a war movie. In fact, there’s gore, but very few fighting scenes. There are laughs, and lots of tension – mostly created by German actor Christoph Waltz’s malevolent Nazi character Hans Landa. This Nazi considers himself a detective and terrifies his prey – first, with innocent and charming chatter. Just when you think the inquisition is OVER, Landa innocently turns, like Columbo, and says “Oh there’s one more thing….” and someone’s doom is sealed. He operates like an evil version of Columbo’s bumbling but brilliant detective. Even if you have reservations, you’re going to be surprised how much you like this entertaining movie. Tarantino’s war is nothing like the real one was.
