We had a garage sale this weekend, and you never know WHO might wander around the corner into a Hollywood yard sale! We noticed a handsome man looking at vintage music magazines and he told us his father was a “one hit wonder” in the 60’s. “WHO?” we squealed, and he said his father is Jewel Akens, who sang “The Birds and the Bees.” (He looked a lot like his dad) We had great memories of that song and the man promptly called up his father and we talked to him. What fun! Other musicians and fans at the sale got a big kick out of chatting with music producer Richard Akens. (Above – a clip of Jewel Akens on Shindig)

I didn’t remember his name – but I remember the song. I played the video and remembered most of the lyrics. The late 50s/70s were great decades for music.
Cool!!
Janet you use ‘we’ a lot. Who is we?
Sorry Janet, I’m not 100 years old like you to know these person.
How cool is that!
How much did you make at your yard sale Janet?
Hi Miss Janet. I do miss being involved in your notorious yard sales – such a great location! Is Jerry McKenna still plying everyone with liquor all day?? What a scene!

LOL!!!!!!!!!
I’m not 100,either( I’m 62),but “The Birds And The Bees” is one of my favourite songs.
I was when it hit the charts, and I was struck by its approach to love and dating.
Akens was an incredibly handsome man,and I’m shocked that some record company didn’t grab him and make him a star.Jewel, who’d have been 82 Sept.12-my sister’s birthday-died form back surgery complications Mar.1,2012,at age 79.
I was 12 when “The Birds And The Bees” charted.
Maybe one of the Pied Piper’s favorites?
