The death of Don Cornelius just might reignite the possibility of having a Soul Train movie. For years, Don had been working on launching a movie set in the world of Soul Train. (The music – the afros- the fashion – the dancing- we love it already!) According to the Hollywood Reporter, several versions of the story – an action comedy, a coming of age dance movie, were created, but the studios were never happy with the scripts. Soul Train had a huge impact on American culture and with renewed interest in the franchise, the door is open to try again. And if the movie’s a hit – how about Broadway? (And who would YOU cast as Don? We suggest Dennis Haysbert – the Allstate guy)
Don Cornelius Movies Soul Train
Yes! I would love that! Dennis would be great too!
Don Cornelius and O’Bryan . What was their deal?
Yeah, Dennis would be perfect for that role.
Remember when Jody Wately was a featured dancer on the show—and then she and her partners later formed the group Shalimar?
Jody eventually went on to have a huge solo career. Her debut album rocked!—always reminds me of the mid-80’s in LA.
I don’t see how they could do it justice. How about just bringing the whole show back from first show to last, in ORDER, so we can see the progression, and TODAY’S youth can see their history. Maybe they’ll stop with the babby pants, show-your ass-hanging out look and grabbing your crotch crap, and the gansta crap and see that SONGS are meant to be SUNG, not TALKED! THAT’S NOT TALENT Jay-Z, Kanye, et al! LEARN HOW TO CARRY A TUNE!
If you really want a tribute to the man and his show, what better way than to re-release the REAL deal! Fun, spirited, clean teens, just enjoying the music, and new, up and coming artists along with established ones, it would be a real treat to see those show again and I’m sure BET would snatch them up in a hurry if given a chance and they weren’t too pricey. They could ALL make some much needed money in this day and age off these oldies but goodies. I’ve often wondered the same thing about the early “American Bandstand”. It’s a part of our culture, and those periods in song were GREAT! I think they would BOTH be HUGE hits all over again. Hey, Dick Clark, are you LISTENING?
Janet, pull some strings!!!!
Bring back Amos n Andy too!
I vote for…..
Jaleel White aka “Urkel”
Dennis Haysbert, with all due respect, is too good looking to play Don Cornelius.
The picture above does look like “Urkel”. I’m thinking maybe Eddie Murphy.
Muffie, The more I look at it, the more Jaleel White would be a great candidate. You have a good eye for casting!
Murphy could pull it off too (for the later years) but White just has that look.
Great idea. I’m still pondering his choice of suicide over a Russian whore ex-wife. The wrong woman can kill you…hmmm…Terreance Howard also has a Russian ex-wife wonder if there is a pattern, is the Russian mob targeting certain low self esteem show biz men??
I grew up watching that show, loved it. The one thing I think about every time I see it now is how thin everybody was back then, particularly the men.
…….”Chips” is coming back?
