Jane Eyre

CUTE NEW COUPLE: JESSE EISENBERG AND MIA WASIKOWSKA

Our favorite new couple of the month: Jesse Eisenberg (The Social Network) and Mia Wasikowska (Alice in Wonderland.) Jesse, 29, says he’s shy and has only had one serious girlfriend. Australian born Mia, 23, starred in the most recent and best version of “Jane Eyre” we’ve ever seen. The pair recently costarred in a comedy called “The Double,” which is about a man who freaks out when he encounters his own lookalike. Jesse was in awe of Mia during filming and described her as “wonderful.” Apparently these two off-beat brainy actors are now a couple – they were seen holding hands and kissing in Toronto. Nice.

IF WE RAN THE OSCARS….

We have two major complaints about the Oscars. First of all, “Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close” and ”Hugo” had no business being nominated for Best Picture. “Extremely Loud” was ordinary, manipulative, and annoying. “Hugo” was totally rejected by its target audience -children— simply because kids don’t care about film preservation. (The movie made a paltry 69 million and cost close to 170 million to make.) Albert Nobbs and Jane Eyre should have been nominated for Best Picture. Nobbs was a highly original story about WOMEN and Jane Eyre (also about a WOMAN) was the best version of this story we’ve ever seen. Both were gorgeously photographed and technically superior. (Too many mature white male voters in the Academy, perhaps?) One more comment – Billy Crystal was not as entertaining as Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin...

MICHELLE WILLIAMS’ NEW BOYFRIEND CARY FUKUNAGA IS BRILLIANT

We just realized that the guy Michelle Williams is dating happens to be the same guy who directed the gorgeous and passionate “Jane Eyre.“ He’s 33 year old Cary Fukunaga, and he’s half Japanese and half Swedish and 100% HOT! (This photo doesn’t do him justice.) Already a successful film writer and director, he’s educated, and speaks English, Spanish and French – and directs movies in those languages. This is a guy who makes intelligent and sensitive films – see his “Jane Eyre,” if you can. Good luck to Michelle – they make a great match.

JANE EYRE IS BACK AND SHE’S BETTER THAN EVER

Not another remake! Just when you think you’ve seen enough of “Jane Eyre” movies to last you a lifetime, another one comes along that is totally mesmerizing and makes you forget about the others. From the first moment, the story sweeps the viewer away and all preconceived notions are forgotten. Gorgeous photography and locations and costumes just add to the splendor. Mia Wasikowska is perfectly cast as the plain but attractive and repressed Jane, who also is smart and determined. She’s everywoman. This version of the story is by far the most passionate and sensitive and beautifully written. If you like British period movies, it won’t disappoint.
