Don Cornelius

DENNIS HAYSBERT: ARE YOU IN GOOD HANDS?

#dennishaysbert

Deep voiced Allstate Insurance spokesman Dennis Haysbert, 57, couldn’t get into the Staples Center to watch the Lakers play until he signed multiple autographs. We thought he was brilliant in “Far From Heaven” with Julianne Moore. Recently we decided he’s the perfect actor to star in the Don Cornelius Soul Train story.

WE WANT SOUL TRAIN ON THE BIG SCREEN!

The death of Don Cornelius just might reignite the possibility of having a Soul Train movie. For years, Don had been working on launching a movie set in the world of Soul Train. (The music – the afros- the fashion – the dancing- we love it already!) According to the Hollywood Reporter, several versions of the story – an action comedy, a coming of age dance movie, were created, but the studios were never happy with the scripts. Soul Train had a huge impact on American culture and with renewed interest in the franchise, the door is open to try again. And if the movie’s a hit – how about Broadway? (And who would YOU cast as Don? We suggest Dennis Haysbert – the Allstate guy)

DON CORNELIUS: THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES

Don Cornelius, who took his own life yesterday, probably because of health issues, did the world a favor when he introduced his “Soul Train” dance show to TV in 1970. He revolutionized the appreciation of black music, fashion, and culture. He certainly did himself a favor too. Don became a major ladies man always clad in immaculately accessorized custom made suits. He became a fixture at the Playboy mansion parties and enjoyed flirting outrageously with pretty women at TV tapings and award shows. Fans everywhere greeted him with enthusiasm and he had an amazing life worth celebrating. (Above, get in line for Jungle Boogie, 1973, and enjoy the platform shoes and elephant bells)
