JOHN F KENNEDY JR: UP CLOSE AND PERSONAL

Next week is the anniversary of the tragic death of John Kennedy Jr, and we wonder where he would have been today politically, had he survived. We would have voted for him because he made such a favorable impression when we met him (back in the late 80’s or early 90’s.) We were dressed to kill at the underground LA nightclub Flaming Colossus, and the main room was very crowded and smokey. Across the room we noticed someone was wearing a pair of DECK SHOES. Deck shoes at this funky club! We HAD to see who it was, and it turned out to be drop-dead gorgeous John F Kennedy Jr! He was with a couple of friends and his east coast apparel stood out among the black-clad scenesters. At the time we wrote the gossip column for Star Magazine, so we immediately struck up a conversation. John could NOT have been nicer. As he was on his way out, we followed him to the car valet, peppering him with questions. He remained totally charming, had perfect manners, and never lost his cool – with a TABLOID journalist! John waved goodbye and left us wanting more…

VAL KILMER AIMS TO FLY AGAIN

Val Kilmer turned up at a charity event in Hollywood and we’re glad he’s going out, but he doesn’t look so hot. (We remember when Val was Cher’s cute boy toy!) A few years back, when Val first got sick he adamantly denied that he had cancer – maybe because he is a Christian Scientist. Eventually he admitted he had throat cancer but there was speculation that he avoided immediate treatment because of his religion. In due course, he cooperated with doctors, but now his voice is very hoarse and raspy. Still, he continues to get parts in B movies and is set to appear in Tom Cruise’s Top Gun sequal, Top Gun Maverick in 2020.

WENDY WILLIAMS DOESN’T MIND A LITTLE ATTENTION

As much as Wendy Williams LOVES to gossip about celebrities, she usually doesn’t like to be gossiped about (or paparazzied) HERSELF. Remember when she was running around in those hoodies during her health and marriage crisis? Her life appears to have settled down – she says she’s dating an age-appropriate doctor (and he’s black) and NOT that young stud that Blac Chyna set her up with. The fact that she’s walking around New York in this outrageous hot pink ruffled coat and fuzzy slippers indicates that she’s more than okay with being stared at.

BRIGITTE NIELSEN: THEY SAID IT WOULDN’T LAST

Observers were doubtful, to say the least, when Red Sonja star Brigitte Nielsen, who happens to be 6’1,” took up with Italian bartender Mattia Dessi, who stands 5’6.” He’s also 15 years younger than she is. But not only has their unlikely marriage lasted 16 years, but they had a baby last year. The couple endured over 10 years of in vitro fertilizations, but Brigitte finally gave birth, at 54, to a baby girl named Frida. Brigitte already has four grown sons from other relationships. AARON TAYLOR-JOHNSON COULD FILL ELVIS’S BLUE SUEDE SHOES – OR NOT

Young actors in Hollywood with a “certain look” are panting to get a chance to audition to play Elvis Presley in Baz Luhrmann’s upcoming Elvis film. Tom Hanks has already been cast as Elvis’s manager Colonel Parker – we didn’t realize the entrepreneurial Dutch-born Parker started out as a carnival barker. Of all the young actors under consideration, we think Aaron Taylor-Johnson would make a great Elvis. (He was the sexy hillbilly in Nocturnal Animals) But we might be in for a surprise – Luhrmann really wants to hire a “new face” for the important role. Could be a life-changer…

ANNE HECHE AND THOMAS JANE: MADE FOR EACH OTHER?

Here’s a couple we can enjoy seeing together. They both have interesting histories. Anne Heche, 49, and Thomas Jane, 50, costarred on HBO’s Hung as a divorced couple. Jane played an underpaid Detroit schoolteacher who became a male prostitute for the money. Jane also implied that he had done some real-life hustling of his own as a teen in Hollywood. (We had heard that rumor and were delighted when he owned up to it.) Anne had a notorious crazy-time romance with Ellen DeGeneres that ended badly. Anne and Thomas (both are now divorced with kids) were longtime friends – they started holding hands a few months ago, and now it’s a full-blown romance.

CHRISTINA AGUILERA IS STILL GLAD SHE LEFT “THE VOICE”

Christina Aguilera seemed very relieved when she finally left The Voice last year after six seasons. Like it or not, the show DID give her career a boost. Since she left, Christina released an album, Liberation, which didn’t exactly burn up the charts. She’s also been touring with mediocre success and performed at the Hard Rock in Las Vegas up until June. She returns to Vegas in September, but for now she’s in Europe and turned up at the Jean-Paul Gaultier show in Paris as his muse. She shared her front row seat with an assortment of characters…
