THE MOST ANNOYING AD ON TV

HGTV’s popular twins Jonathan and Drew Scott, along with Melissa McCarthy, are currently appearing in the most hated ad on TV (for Chase banks) and it seems to be running constantly. In the commercial, Melissa is seen walking around a house, loudly smashing decorative objects on the floor while the twins watch. Viewers (including me) find the ad noisy and stupid and HATE seeing perfectly good things broken for no reason. It’s NOT funny and irritated viewers are griping all over the internet: “I like the people in the ad LESS each time I see it!” ”Is this supposed to be FUNNY?” One viewer said “Chase should FIRE their ad agency” and another responded “No – blame the stupid Chase execs who OK’d it!”

KATE MOSS: SHE HAD THE BEST OF JOHNNY

On Wednesday, supermodel Kate Moss will relive her relationship with Johnny Depp via video link at his 100 million dollar defamation trial. They dated from ’94 to ’97 -she was 20 and he was 31 when they met. Kate certainly had the best of Johnny – he was the hottest actor in town. They seemed to enjoy indulging in a variety of substances together and Johnny was known to wreck hotel rooms like a rockstar. When they split, Kate was heartbroken and Johnny’s lawyers hope she will clear up an old rumor that Johnny once pushed her down the stairs in a rage. Now 48, Kate remembers him fondly and might do Johnny some good…

WHAT IS GOING ON WITH ROB KARDASHIAN?

The only male member of the Kardashian clan has been MISSING IN ACTION for years now. And it’s not easy because they are probably the most photographed non-royal family in the world. How does Rob Kardashian stay totally out of the public eye – and more important, WHY? He claims to be devoting his time to his five year old daughter (with Blac Chyna) Dream, but they are never seen together at Kardashian kid-oriented parties or events. Rob managed to testify and come and go from the recent trial (Blac Chyna VS Kardashians) UNSEEN by the packs of paparazzi. (There wasn’t even a court sketch of him!) Did he remove that ever-present baseball cap? While the rest of the family celebrated Kourtney and Travis Barker’s wedding in Italy, Rob was conspicuously absent. Paparazzi NEVER snap him eating out or just leaving his house. We can only assume that he’s not happy with his looks – maybe he’s gained more weight. Or perhaps he’s getting hair transplants – hence, the permanent baseball cap. He seems like a nice guy, here’s hoping he can pull himself together and learn to enjoy his good life.

“CRIMES OF THE FUTURE” INTRODUCES NEW CONCEPT: BODY HORROR

Here’s a movie guaranteed to make you forget YOUR problems. David Cronenberg’s NAME kinda gives me the creeps, and his new sci-fi horror film Crimes of the Future, which just premiered at Cannes, had people walking out, gagging, after the first five minutes at the “body horror!” One audience member even had a panic attack. The story takes place in the eerie future when the human species is adapting to a synthetic environment, (some have developed the art of digesting plastic) and bodies are starting to mutate. It’s the next stage of human development where humans can grow new organs – in odd places. Despite the walkouts, the film had a standing ovation also. Viggo Mortensen and Kristen Stewart (above) star. Back to the present – Kristen looks like she’s wearing that unflattering skirt backwards – doesn’t a bustle belong in the rear?

RILEY KEOUGH: 2 REASONS TO BE AT CANNES FILM FESTIVAL

Who would have guessed that Elvis’s pretty granddaughter Riley Keough would become a film director? Granted, she’s an established actress, but we didn’t realize that Elvis’s offspring would turn out to be so ambitious. Actually, Riley co-directed her first film War Pony with partner Gina Gammell -and their first try got them to the Cannes Film Festival! The young directors were floored when they got a huge ovation from their audience. The film is a glimpse into the life of a young 23 year old Native American growing up on a reservation. Coincidentally, Baz Luhrmann’s film Elvis, about Riley’s grandfather, is premiering at Cannes in a few days – fortunately Riley already saw it and loves it, so she will probably stick around for that…

J BALVIN SOMETIMES GETS IT RIGHT

Every once in awhile J Balvin likes to surprise the paparazzi and his fans by turning up at an event wearing a skirt. He was first seen last January in the front row at the Louis Vuitton show wearing an LV puffer skirt. Since then, paparazzi keep an eye out for the Colombian singer, hoping for an eccentric photo-op. He did not disappoint this weekend at the Balenciaga Spring show in New York. His Balenciaga skirt is decidedly masculine with metal loops and hardware. Ironically, he’s behind the J Balvin Amor collection for Guess, and his designs are very mundane and uninspired, in pastel colors. His Air Jordan 2 collection got mixed reviews also.

BEING A KARDASHIAN MEANS GIVING UP COMFORT

Kim Kardashian and her 8 year old daughter North West certainly don’t dress like the rest of the people walking around in Portofino, Italy, but they have bodyguards to protect them from whatever. North is already taking fashion tips from mom – check out the jewelry, bustier (waist cincher?) and looong braids. It can’t be easy for Kim walking on those cobblestone streets in stilettos – eventually she had to take her shoes off and walk barefoot. The Kardashians never did seem to care much about being comfortable…

SHAME, SHAME, SHAME

Okay, ENOUGH is ENOUGH! Even for me, a lifetime fashion victim, this whole “My dress is bigger than yours” idea has gotten out of hand. It’s actually disgusting. It looks like women at the Cannes Film Festival are trying to out-do the over-dressed women at the Met Gala, and succeeding. When you think about all the labor hours and fabric that goes in to making these flamboyant gowns with long trains that are worn ONCE, it is appalling! And overindulgent.

TOM CRUISE: SMALL BUT IMPORTANT

Sorry, but we couldn’t resist publishing this photo! Tom Cruise has moved on to London for the Top Gun: Maverick premier and unfortunately for him, he was photographed with Prince William and Kate Middleton. We say “unfortunately” because in spite of his special shoes, the Royals do make him look short. That must be why Tom loves to make spectacular ego-boosting arrivals at his premiers in helicopters and fighter jets…

TOM CRUISE STILL CRAVES THOSE EXTRA INCHES

It’s fascinating that Tom Cruise and his Top Gun:Maverick costar Jennifer Connelly are the same height (5’7”) and look like it in this photo in spite of the fact that she is wearing platform sandals that give her an extra 4 or 5 more inches. It makes one wonder WHAT Tom Cruise has in his shoes! Tom has his top-of-the-line shoes custom made with special lifts inside. Still, he remains dwarfed by his male costars…
