LOOK WHAT “THE IRISHMAN” DID FOR AL PACINO

Not long ago, Al Pacino used to walk freely around Beverly Hills and have lunch wherever he liked. Occasionally a fan would see him and ask for a selfie or autograph, but it wasn’t bothersome. It so happens, he’s HOT again. Nowadays when word gets out that Al is in some restaurant, (E Baldi today) word spreads like wildfire and there’s a noisy and demanding crowd waiting when he walks out. Alas, the high price of success…

HAS JOE PESCI GONE HOLLYWOOD?

Sporting a cream colored cashmere double breasted topcoat and SUNGLASSES AT NIGHT, it appears that The Irishman gangster Joe Pesci has “gone Hollywood”- and indeed, he has. For the past 30 years, Joe has lived at the Jersey Shore in an 8 bedroom 8 bathroom mansion. A few weeks ago, Joe put his home on the market for 6.5 million and he admits he has finally decided to move the sunny Los Angeles where he can play golf year around.

EXACTLY WHO IS THIS “NATIONAL BOARD OF REVIEW” THAT THINKS THE IRISHMAN IS BEST FILM OF 2019?

The National Board of Review (whatever THAT is) just outed itself as an all-MALE organization when they named the all-male movie The Irishman as Best Film of 2019. Really? Like most people, we watched it over the Thanksgiving weekend and felt it was MUCH too long and essentially, boring. The visuals of a bygone era were delicious (the cinematographer and set decorators should be credited) but didn’t make up for the total lack of female characters and proliferation of dull men. After less than two hours we were sick of all the egotistical mobsters at any age. We never thought we’d tire of Martin Scorsese’s characters, but we’ve had enough. That “man’s world” is, fortunately, OVER.

ROBERT DE NIRO LOVES HIMSELF IN “THE IRISHMAN”

The Irishman premiered last night in New York and we can hardly WAIT to see the de-ageing process that allows Robert De Niro, Joe Pesci, and Al Pacino ‘s characters age through the decades – from the late 40’s to the late 90’s. The computer imaging that made these older actors look much younger was so impressive to Robert De Niro that when he saw himself, he joked “This could extend my career for another 30 years!” Netflix is thrilled with the good reviews, but everyone is wondering how moviegoers will react to the three and a half hour length of this film!

DENIRO AND CANNAVALE ARE CORRUPT TEAMSTERS IN “THE IRISHMAN”

Robert DeNiro is playing Frank “The Irishman” Sheehan and Bobby Cannavale is playing Joe Gallo on location in Queens, New York filming “The Irishman” with Martin Scorsese. The two “union bosses” are watching other Teamsters unload a truck full of beef. Mobster and hit man Sheehan wrote his memoirs before he died and detailed all his crimes through the years. Sheehan was responsible for Jimmy Hoffa’s disappearance and Bobby’s character Gallo ends up another one of Sheehan’s victims. Nice to see men without facial hair…

THE IRISHMAN: SPECIAL EFFECTS WILL MAKE ROBERT DE NIRO LOOK 30 YEARS OLD

Robert De Niro is on a set in Queens beating up a shopkeeper for his new film The Irishman. It’s about a REALLY nasty gangster named Frank “The Irishman” Sheeran and flashbacks of his 25 mob murders – including Teamster leader Jimmy Hoffa. Scorsese is directing all his favorites – DeNiro, Al Pacino (he plays Hoffa,) Joe Pesci, Harvey Keitel etc in this gangster epic said to rival Goodfellas. The film’s huge budget stalled production until Netflix took over. Interestingly, DeNiro, 74, has to start out the movie as a 30 year old, so the same special effects team that made Brad Pitt age backwards for Benjamin Button will make DeNiro look young. It’s worth seeing just for THAT…

WHO KNEW? JOE PESCI CAN DO THE PEPPERMINT TWIST!

Joe Pesci had dinner in West Hollywood with an attractive young woman- and it looks like they took some food home. You haven’t seen the Goodfellas star lately because he’s semi-retired. Or maybe he wants to concentrate on his first love – music. Did you know he played guitar for awhile for 60’s band Joey D and the Starliters? (The Peppermint Twist) He was replaced by- of all people- Jimi Hendrix, and started acting. Good news- he came out of retirement to costar in Scorsese’s Netflix film, The Irishman, with his buddies DeNiro and Pacino.

ROBERT DE NIRO LEAVES THE FOCKERS TO RETURN TO THE MOBSTERS

After far too many “Meet The Parents” and “Focker” movies, it looks like Robert De Niro is set to redeem himself in a mob film directed by his buddy Martin Scorsese. Scorsese, who has been favoring Leonardo DiCaprio as his leading man, is directing a script based on the book “I Heard You Paint Houses.” (“Paint houses” is mob slang for contract killings.) The movie is called “The Irishman” and it’s about Frank Sheeran, a labor union official who became a mobster responsible for 25 killings – including Jimmy Hoffa. The real Sheeran confessed this to the book’s author before he died. How Bobby will prepare for this role is not known but you may recall he drove a cab before he filmed “Taxi Driver.”
