Elegant actress Dana Wynter has died at the age of 79. She starred in many Hollywood movies and appeared on countless TV shows, but will always be best remembered for her role in the science fiction classic “Invasion of the Body Snatchers.” She played Becky, the love interest of Kevin McCarthy, in this 1956 thriller that is surely among the most frightening movies ever made. (It’s about small town residents being replaced by robotic lookalikes grown in pods.) “Body Snatchers” has been remade several times, but the original is still by far the best.

We must note the passing of Kevin McCarthy who, in 1956, starred in one of the most memorable science fiction movies of all time – “Invasion of the Body Snatchers.” Remakes of this cult classic were attempted but they never matched up to the frightening original. McCarthy played the doctor who tried to warn the population about the alien “pod people” taking over the world. McCarthy always dismissed notions that the movie was an allegory about creeping communism or political issues – he insisted it was simply about “conforming.” Happily, he delighted in the fame the low budget film brought him.
