So sad to say goodbye to Valerie Harper. We remember when she was riding high with her series Rhoda – single women everywhere identified with her New York working girl. We remember being in New York one day in the 70’s shopping as usual in the early evening. We walked into a store and suddenly realized it was nearly empty – and the streets looked almost deserted too! Puzzled, we found someone to ask “What’s going on? – where IS everybody?” We were told that Rhoda was getting married to Joe that night and everyone was home watching. No kidding. THAT’S how beloved Valerie’s Rhoda Morganstern character was!

Rip Valerie! You made us laugh!
A great entertainer , RIP
Just prior to her cancer diagnosis in 2013 Valerie and Ed Asner were celebrity guests at Legendary Bingo in West Hollywood. My mother went with us and I wondered through the show how old Valerie Harper was at the time. She was 74! She looked fantastic, was energetic and all over the place signing autographs and taking selfies with anyone who asked. He was surprisingly friendly too (probably his characters on television had most people nervous to talk to him but he was just as nice as she was). It saddens me because she was a big part of my younger years through television and I looked forward to watching her every week. Sorry her last years were so stressful and Im glad she isn’t suffering any more. But she left a lasting legacy. RIP, Valerie.
